In my mid 20’s I had one of those. I had a 76 RX4: 13B, 5-speed, stainless steel header and exhaust. What a great car. Mine was a bronze exterior with brown interior. I like the blue; amazing looking car.

Yes, that bronze colour was stunning, too. These cars really benefit from metallic paintwork.

Spot on. It's a good colour match, too. A pity Noriaki didn't have his stripes on yet when this was filmed. ;^)

There are literally only a handful of these left in Europe. A couple are in the UK, but there, the early cars got a 12A (like early Japanese spec cars used to have), so those early 13Bs are super rare.

Amazing to see the interior of a 50 year old car looking like it just came off the showroom floor. Must have cost a small fortune hunting down all the NOS parts!
Also interesting to see two vacuum advance diaphragms hanging off the distributor at 0:37 instead of one. I recall reading somewhere that some models have 3 sets of points packed inside the one distributor.

We have a magician who specialises in Mazda interiors. (He will do Noriaki's dashboard top, too, soon). Owner told me the Rx4 front seats have new vinyl on the sides, stitched to the patterned centers. Looks factory. Truly amazing work! Engine was built to original spec. I'm not that familiar with 13Bs, but will ask about those diaphragms...

The early non-electronic distributor 13B engines had one distributor and two sets of points. One for the trailing plugs and one for the leading plugs, as one set fires just before the other to help get an even burn. The early 10A and 12A engines actually had two distributors with one set of points in each.

What you're describing is the normal setup on a normal old 13B, but I was refering to a bizarre setup in some 13B engines that had *three* set of points in its distributor.
Re-checking just now the workshop manual of this odd version shows the ignition system is described as "one is normal leading point, another is trailing point, and the other is leading retarded point" (This description is from page 5:2 of the manual "RX-4 FSM 1975", which I see is still available in PDF version via Google).
Anyone know the reason for the extra (3rd) breaker point? My guess is it's something to do with the emissions/pollution controls of that era.

@@PartTimeLaowai I hadn’t seen that setup before. Only ever seen distributors with two sets of points. Must be for a specific region, and as you said, maybe an emissions thing.

The car was sold new in Sweden, famous for various (sometimes odd) measures to protect domestic car production against imports. For example, the 818 (808) coupé came with the Rx3 front, because headlamp wipers were obligatory. But the engine was restored in Norway. I'll see what I can find out.

Flott bil! Bor du oppe i nord?

Mazda made a Dodge Charger! “Wow!” Need to bring this sport car back. Since Dodge and most American car companies stop making sport cars. The American public would love to see a Dodge Charger or Challenger made by a Japanese car company.

Ironically, in its day, this car was criticised as being "too American -looking" over here. Today that count as an asset. Check out YT channel NazMazOSR for US-spec Rx4-stuff! 👍

@@xntrcshft I understand this body style is called a coup. But having a sport car that looks like a mini 73 Dodge Charger is not a bad thing. Too bad there isn’t a car company today that makes classic style vintage style cars with modern amenities and updated features in Technology. I love my turbo Signature CX-5 but if given the chance to trade it in for a Modern RX 4 with a body frame of a 73 mini Dodge Charger, I’ll do it in one second without a after thought. I like modern vehicles but, I would rather have a modern vehicle that looks different and unique.
