Fencing without clothes! - HEMA Sparring

In this video, Enrico and Damiano demonstrate a way to train safely without relying too much on protective gear and focusing instead on footwork and control.
The ruleset for dussak only allows strikes to the head, minimizing the risk of hits and bruises elsewhere.
The whole underwear thing is just to remind to always have fun!

This is a good teaching/learning method. I did this with sabres once upon a time with a student who constantly attacked into right of way without voiding (modern Olympic sabre). His endangered, bare skin brought clarity of thought concerning either parrying and riposting or dodging and counterattacking. 😉

I also have a serious question, if you can believe that... does the fear of getting hurt (as in ouch, any hit hurts on bare skin; not referencing something serious) made you spar more conservatively? Did you found yourselves not taking unnecessary risks?

That is the point of the exercise: being more aware and focusing on precision instead of rushing in or taking risks.
Also, I don't remember if it was specified in the video, but only the head was targetable.

@@saamfvg It was only specified in the description. But I also didn't pose the question correctly. Did you actually felt more like in a real bout, so more skin on the line 😏, a stronger fear of consequences? Or because you limited the attacks to the protected head, it felt more like normal (plus fun and less constrained movement but not so much afraid that you will get a bruise)? This is not clear to me.
