exactly, a better idea would be to put an American AIM-9M on a launcher that can turn up and down 360 degrees. While firing a missile at a target above the drone would damage the drone, it would be a one-way mission anyway so that wouldn’t be that big of a problem, especially if they managed to shoot down a helicopter.

Given that the heli's like chsing the drone, it would make sense to mount the missiles on swivelling mount, or more simples, just point one missile forward and one aft.

It was foreseeable that they'd be pursued and I thought it would have been a better design to have pointed one of the missiles aft. I'm guessing after this, future versions will do it that way.

Ukraine appears to be using R-73s, which, depending on the version, can detect targets anywhere from plus or minus 40 degrees from center up to plus or minus 75 degrees. So you can't fire one forward and expect that it will see something that's at your rear. Which is good, lest it detects your own heat signature and comes after you.
Ukraine should be using its limited resources on the retreating frontline on the mainland and not wasting it on Crimea or the sea. Odesa will be taken from behind and not the sea.

Forward facing is equal to motor torpedo boat, as a second option if drone boat is hit. Vertical missiles amount to third option!
They’re guided missiles that track Heat signatures. It doesn’t really matter much which they they’re pointing.
