Metal helps keep me moving every day, I cant wait to put my headphones on and turn on my fave music while I walk to class to plug it into my car and listen to it while I'm on a long drive back home or to a concert to help keep me calm when I'm pissed at something or sad. I love metal and I will always like it but I love other styles of music that is out there so dont be scared to go out side your box to try new music that is really good.
I think my favorite thing about metal is it's diversity. It can be anything from Slipknot to Dimmu Borgir, or anything from Metallica to Cannibal Corpse. And because i enjoy certain songs from pretty much every genre of music the diversity in metal really makes it something unique.
Daniel Røkholt it helps it get a wider audience in my opinion. Example i like only heavy metal and i like to hear what appeals to their ears so it causes a interesting conversation
In my experience Heavy/ Extreme Music attracts the most well rounded and balanced people with a depth of character for the most part. To me, a love for this type of Music is a good thing and long may it continue. These are my kind of people!
this actually made me emotional on a level because death metal truly is my escape and yeah life isn't just all happy jolly pop music. maybe when I'm sad I don't want to listen to pop.
I love Metal because it is so vast and energetic... I can't find that energy in other genres... Jazz or classical are good too but I do not get hooked easily to those genres.... Metal awakens the warrior side in me lol
Oh yeah. I love that song. And its beautifull. Dimebag had some great shit. He had amazing songs. Like walk the main riff seams quite simple but its got good energy or whatever to it.
I love metal, because it gives me energy, I love metal, because it helps me move on from different situations..I love metal, because .. I love metal, because it gets me emotional.. I love metal, because it saved my life. I really do feel sorry for those who never come across what we love. I listen to some other type of music, from time to time, but heavy metal will be forever in my heart.. I will take it with me when I get to go to the other side!!!
Yes I agree with you that metal opens your mind to the darker feelings inside you. I started listening to metal a long time ago when I was less than 10 years old and I'm 27 now. This isn't my youtube account. I'm a dude. But anyways... Many of us experience difficulties during childhood such as frequent moving or what have you. Problems with parents. Blah blah. And the thing that I turned to, rather than seeking out support from anyone else and projecting my insecurities and problems on others was metal. Because I could relate to the message and I knew that a lot of these artists were coming from the same place I was. In regards to the other video you made describing why some fans hate metal, I think the generation before us made it a priority to mask those feelings and emotions and kind of sweep them under the rug under an umbrella of forced positivity. Metal seeks to vent those feelings through artistic means. It's the most important aspect of metal music in my opinion. Punk music also did that and it's also viewed as politically incorrect by the music industry still and that affects amount we see, hear about and view in mainstream media. The new hipster mentality of today in 2015 is that the left wing and radical mentality brought forth by events such as 9/11 and the war in the East for oil are to be shunned. It's kind of widely accepted now that people are crazy if they suspect something is wrong in society. But I think if we accept that now, we're undoing all the work and pushing aside the livelihood that our influences of metal(such as Rage against the Machine) fought so hard to portray. We related to it. We understood it. Now we have living memories and examples for this generation to think about. But there is still a lot wrong with society. And if there wasn't, the theory that evolution is real would be flawed. We must evolve and the only way to evolve is to face whatever is wrong. I believe that metal music focuses directly on this issue. And the music is indeed a home for anybody of any place or any time, because it allows each culture to instill the roots of their culture, draw from others freely, be as creative as you can or want, and share your new original perspective with the entire community. And the community will never stop growing, because anybody and any kind of music can become metal. This cannot be said about almost any other style of music. Folk music is the exception in my opinion. That's my 2 cents.
The only excuse for not being able to enjoy any metal is that you don't like the sound of guitars. From there metal varies so much that someone can always find something within the definition of metal.
As a diehard fan of absolutely ALL generes of metal, and a metal guitar player/musician, who's been working years at his craft, your words in this video, literally, brought a manly tear to my eye :')
Personally I like rock and metal.Slayer, megadeth, three days grace, rise Against, machine Head, cannibal Corpse, green day, blink 182, breaking bejiamin, arch Enemy, veld, methwitch, bludgeoned Beyond Reason, dying fetus, A7x
I love Heavy Metal! and All the Sub-genre's even Nu-metal & some Metal-core because I'm a very open minded person, and I'm not afraid to listen to something Different styles of music, and yes i won't like them all, but at least i try to listen to it, and the only music i hate is the Candy POP/R&B from the last 10+ years
Dude.... You do such a good job proving your points. And you talk really well about everything. I applaud you for your reasoning and your effort to try to make this discussion appeal to everyone, whether they are a metal fan or not. Nice work.
I totally love what you said about the exploration that metalheads undergo! That couldn't be more true, but my favorite thing about heavy metal is that you can channel every emotion through it! Sadness, joy, anger, angst, you name it, you can vent it all through some form of metal music!
Nice video, I liked the part with fan devotion, so true- after Sonata Arctica's show we were waiting for the band to come out for nearly 3 hours and we were rewarded with a meeting with all 5 members, these things make me proud to be a devoted fan of these people. And yea, I know SA doesn't play much metal these days.
Great job! I grew up listening to Hip-Hop but I was then exposed to Godsmack and I fell in love with that genre and I began exploring and expanding my horizons now! And now I listen to Melodic Death Metal with bands I love such as (The Black Dahlia Murder, Children Of Bodom, Bloodbath, Kalmah, Swallow The Sun, Insomnium and etc.) Thank you and everyone out there fur this amazing experience!!
I agree coverkillernation. To me, the love to heavy metal is the sounds and vibes that give me goosebumps and make me enjoy myself. Not the mention the lyrics which I find very philosophical and interesting also using high literature which in some cases expand my vocabulary. In addition, the guitars, drums and the growls in most songs of this genre truly makes me enjoy metal with no regret what so ever. Despite the fact of metal not being for everyone, the people that do enjoy it, have a damn good reason why to.
I've been into the genre about a decade myself. And the points you describe are really points I agree upon. We are generally misunderstood because we are "different" but then again we dare to be different!
This video is absolutely perfect! It is everything that I have been trying to tell people who judge and stereotype me since I have started listening to Heavy Metal music!
I love metal for the same reason I love reggae, blues, and old school punk. They hit me in a way no other genre does. Can't explain it, It's just makes me feel really alive.
I hate how people say that metal is dead because it isn't at all people who say that just don't listen to current metal bands because they are not mainstream
I've always listened to heavy metal for most of my life, and it's just recently that I knew I was listening to metal for most of my childhood without even knowing it. Family influence played a huge part, since my grandma was a music teacher who listened to a lot of traditional metal and classic rock in her free time.
Heavy Metal is part of my life, I save up my money just to go to a concert some times. The people, the music, the comradery that you get from it seems like an essential way of life. Sure you can get it with a rap artist but I'm white and if I decide to go check out a Big Sean show then I worry about getting shot. At a metal show, the only way you'd die is by being in the wrong spot in a pit or pissing of a drunk dude.
Same here. Theres a common misconception that metal fans are angry and aggressive, but I've met some of the nicest people at rock and metal shows / festivals. You even get some of the bands encouraging the crowd to look out for each other. I feel safer at these places than I do in some shopping malls.
I love heavy metal because its just different from what everyone else listens to like Eminem or bass song also dubstep most people think I'm some sort of weirdo for liking this music but this music makes me feel free and escape my problems in life because I find it relaxing to listen to and I'm very grateful to know about heavy metal or just normal metal
I agree with you for the most part, but I personally find Eminem to be an amazing artist. I don't listen to much rap but I grew up listening to him and he is just so much better than any other rapper I can think of, especially Fetty Wap or some shit. His lyrics are well written and meaningful, and he is very diverse with the different styles of rap he implements into his music.
I agree with all those points. Heavy Metal is an outstanding genre with a lot of variation and diversity. Every now and then I've been quite impressed with music outside the Heavy Metal genre. Fleet Foxes debut album comes to mind as does Badly Drawn Boy's album, 'The Hour of Bewilderbeast.' Aside from that, I love contemporary orchestrations and certain movie soundtracks. Everything from John Williams to Hans Zimmer. The romantic era composer Tchaikovsky is outstanding as is the early 20th century composition of 'The Planets,' which Iron Maiden has showcased several times at its live shows.
Such a well versed video man! Loved it and I can agree on those points! Metal def changed my life, its a part of my everyday..helps to connect with people and be passionate about something .
this is awesome the reason i love metal well besides being raised on it it just feels amazing when u go to hastings and discover a new artist and you an listen to a song over and over again and hear a different thing in the song and true metal heads willl just get hooked and u get a feeling of just undiscribable happiness and you feel amazing!
Metal/music is somthing that fits your soul. it kind of describes you. it is a part of you, or a part of your personality. So stand for hwo you are, and stand for your music!
Oh, how true it is that the fans are why some people love heavy metal. I was turned on to metal when someone from my junior high days played "Enter Sandman" on Rock Band at our school's carnival day one year, and I gradually (once I found the song and remembered the name) grew towards metal.
I used to like heavy stuff, like, really heavy stuff (it's really funny because my favourite band is Green Day), that's besides the point though. I just got insanely bored with the heavy shit though. It all sounded the same to me and I just asked myself "Why am I actually listening to this?". I still love bands like Maiden, Metallica, Pantera, Megadeth etc. because I've found something unique with those bands. I'm more into thrash, metalcore and hardcore (for the heavy side.) 1/2
The intense aggression of metal is like scratching: it's rough and ugly, but when you've got a bad itch, there's nothing else like it. Metal bands also have a special relationship with their fans. Instead of millions of fans for a few months, they have smaller followings who stick with them for years. So bands stay closer to their audience. Like, a few months ago, I met a guy from Skeletonwitch. He was cool. We hung out for a couple hours and had a beer. You can't do that with a pop star.
Watch Global Metal by Sam Dunn, as well as the documentary Heavy Metal In Baghdad. You won't be disappointed. Both should be somewhere on TH-cam as well. It's so inspiring to see the kinds of things metalheads will do for their music, and the intense passion they show for their music.
Yes Im a Metalhead I've been so since 2010. I know a lot of bands in all sub-genres of metal. Spawn Of Possession anyone ? or Periphery...Meshuggah, Veil Of Maya, Born Of Osiris, Asking Alexandria, Dimmu Borgir, Cradle of filth, helloween, Cradle Of Filth, Mushroomheads, Korn, Slipknot, After The Burial, Suicide Silence, Winterburst, Ava inferi etc... I know many more Im a Metal nerd and proud.
Honestly I like it cause they feel me and just the sound, not the vocals, can make my day better. When the days are hardest, metal can help make it better. Best of all, metal can have any emotion attached to it. It's the monster that can't be beat
I completely agree that it can be really beautiful. I especially believe this for nightwish. I discovered them probably around 2005 and still think they are just amazing ,and have this unique beauty in their songs.
I used to only like thrash and groove metal. I originally didn't like metal with extreme vocals. One day I decided to listen to a Whitechapel song with an open mind and loved it. From there I branched off to all sorts of metal.
Hell yeah. And seeing stuff like Djent just brings tears to my eyes. It's more than just a new sound (which is awesome, btw), it's a movement. A movement of bands. A new influx of bands, and even that SUBGENRE, in turn, is creating more sub-genres. I love it. I might make it sound like Metal is one big MESS, lol. But... it's precision. It's true music-making. Ambidexterity, fluidity, complexity, evolution, experiementation.
I would just like to say, WOW... 4 out of the 5 reasons are the same as to why i listen to metal. I will admit i was raised on it by my stepfather, and now that im a bit older im coming across bands i never thought that I'd be into... When you made the point that you didnt want to get into the discussion about christian metal, i was kinda shocked but that is your right... I love both Christian and secular metal, and i am also a Christian.. What people say about metal and how it is "evil" makes no sense to me whatsoever, when all it is, is another way of expressing yourself... Anyways, great video my friend.
1. I can A billion heavy metal albums, but still never hear it all in this genre. 2. Their are tons of genre's of heavy metal. 3. Lokk at hair metal (Poison, motley crue) or trans Siberian orchestra. Enough said. 4. Heavy metal and country fans are the most dedicated fans in all of music. 5. I have 2 guitars. an acoustic (Yamaha) & an electric (Pacifica) guitar
I love metal because it has so many different sub genres that tie in together. You can even tie in Prog to Thrash to Nu-Metal, but they sound so different at the same time.
I remember, I was 12, just got my first guitar, and my mom asked me "What are you gonna play that crazy, heavy metal?" I said, "Oh yes! Wouldn't have it any other way!" For me, metal has the most passion than any other genre of music.
500 characters isn't nearly enough to explain why Metal is the best music in the world (i don't give a shit; how self-centred/'elitist' that may sound). But to put it shortly... it's perfection. it's the artists music, in that it is the more fluid, dynamic, ambidextrous music in the world. It's yours to shape, yours to evolve. it's incredible, especially from a musician's standpoint. Everything from Celtic/Pagan Metal, Metalcore, to Power Metal. So damn dynamic. There IS Metal for everyone.
this was maybe the best video i have ever seen on youtube you are very passionate about this subject and it makes me a complete stranger and forener to you happy to see alot more metalheads should be like you and not say this is true metal and this is false metal and all that shit i and many others love metal becuse it's freedom from all that shit freedom from religion freedom from mainstream stuff and much much more Just stay metal thats all \m/
I listen to Heavy Metal and it's sub-genres: Metalcore/Christian Metalcore, Groove Metal, Nu Metal, Death Metal, Melodic Death Metal, Deathcore, Rap Metal, etc. Metal is the best imo, I absolutely love it tbh
You forgot to mention that heavy metal is also perfect for your mental health. The psychology department at Queensland University did a recent study on why people enjoy listening to heavy metal, and/or heavy rock music in general. One of the BIG reasons is because of a lot of current heavy metal songs match emotions to the listeners.
I need help, i like metallica, megadeth, and slayer but it's hard for me to actually "get into it".Like i like it but i get bored with it easy.can someone please give me advice on how to get into the metal genre.i know that somewhere inside me is a metalhead, but i was raised on alternative rock. The only metal i can REALLY get into is black sabbath's "PARANOID" album and LINKIN PARK.Any advice is nice, and thanks.
I started playing guitar after listening to the offspring. Eventually I found myself wanting something heavier and then I discovered Metallica. So my influence of writing I do today comes from those bands along with others of course. But yea I have rock/metal to thank for kicking me in the ass to get into learning guitar, drums, recording and everything I do.
You sir know so much about metal, that I'm actually a bit jealous. Metal is one of the biggest things in my life, but I don't know half the shit you do :P I'll just keep listening to metal, hope to catch up to your level of knowledge and rock on dude! \m/ \m/
He could have used Neurosis in the discussion. They came in with their own style and they get featured on Metal magazines and they fit in the Metal genre, but no one knows what they should be classified as. They also want to keep making music until one of or all of them are gone.
Prog rock bands got me into metal,I wanted something a tad bit more aggressive and something with a bit more balls and bass (but no metal bass player can match up to Chris Squire from Yes).I discovered Opeth (Still Life),Iron Maiden (Powerslave,Killers) and several other metal bands :P

I love Heavy Metal. One of the reasons I like it is because its different from what watch you here on the radio. And being different is cool.
RedWolf316 It's always good to discover new things
Its good music to skate too. Its enjoyable music.
yes sir! i prefer listening to sludge when im skating (Crowbar, Down, Eyehategod, COC) and doomy stoner metal such as Electric Wizard or Pentagram
Blake Anderson same here
I love Metal because it is so vast and energetic... I can't find that energy in other genres... Jazz or classical are good too but I do not get hooked easily to those genres.... Metal awakens the warrior side in me lol
I love it because it can be beautiful, aggresive and give me chills.
I just need it.
karl jonson Great way to sum it up.
Metal music encourages my love and hunger for creativity.
Great video,CKN! You REALLY hit the ol' proverbial "nail on the head" with all of your comments!
Why do I love heavy metal?
It's everything. Absolutely everything.
Cemetery Gates is a great example of beauty
Oh yeah. I love that song. And its beautifull. Dimebag had some great shit. He had amazing songs. Like walk the main riff seams quite simple but its got good energy or whatever to it.
So are Warmness on the Soul, So Far Away, and some of Avenged Sevenfold's other slower songs. Check them out if you haven't already.
The highs that Phil hits at the end give me chills every time.
and fade to black
by listening to heavy metal, my inner warrior explode out of me as a soldier ready to battle for good or bad.
I love metal, because it gives me energy, I love metal, because it helps me move on from different situations..I love metal, because .. I love metal, because it gets me emotional.. I love metal, because it saved my life. I really do feel sorry for those who never come across what we love. Nena Rica cheers man I clap all hail metel and f*** you liberals
Metal is my Cry!!!!
I love heavy metal cause of its depth. Its more eventful, powerful, and thought provoking.

+Dylan Beasley I just listened to that album for the first time in years last night! I forgot how good it was.
Dude.... You do such a good job proving your points. And you talk really well about everything. I applaud you for your reasoning and your effort to try to make this discussion appeal to everyone, whether they are a metal fan or not. Nice work.

There are two kinds of humans:
1: Those that love Heavy Metal
2: Those that haven't yet discovered their favorite HM band.

NWA is my favorite rap group but other than that i don't care for older rap
I just LOOOOOOVE heavy metal. It's my favourite genre
I've been into the genre about a decade myself. And the points you describe are really points I agree upon. We are generally misunderstood because we are "different" but then again we dare to be different!

Beautiful thoughts! Everyone should watch this!
Starting up my own band. Red Level. We havent rehearsed yet but i got some great lyrics for songs :D
Metal just gives me an amazing feeling whenever I listen to it especially when I listen to my personal favourites
the nation is in
for me at least there's a stress release aspect of listening to heavy music. something about it is very cathartic
Anyways, great video my friend.
what you said at 13:30 - 13:50 was the funniest thing I've heard in a while, good shit
Excellent speech about the lure of METAL. It certainly is empowering and has many open doors..
It's the band "Naglfar" the shirt is their album "Sheol" to be more specific.
Wouldn't have it any other way!"
For me, metal has the most passion than any other genre of music.
Dimebag had a side project called "Rebel Meets Rebel" It's a country/Metal crossover.
‘Allot of exploration’ tbh you’ve been responsible for most of my music taste
500 characters isn't nearly enough to explain why Metal is the best music in the world (i don't give a shit; how self-centred/'elitist' that may sound). But to put it shortly... it's perfection.
it's the artists music, in that it is the more fluid, dynamic, ambidextrous music in the world. It's yours to shape, yours to evolve. it's incredible, especially from a musician's standpoint.
Everything from Celtic/Pagan Metal, Metalcore, to Power Metal.
So damn dynamic. There IS Metal for everyone.
Interesting your opinion on the subject,
wanted to know what you think about Rock in Rio?
speaking here direct from Brazil.
I have been In for quite some time friend ;) great video
this was maybe the best video i have ever seen on youtube
you are very passionate about this subject and it makes me a complete stranger and forener to you happy to see alot more metalheads should be like you and not say this is true metal and this is false metal and all that shit i and many others love metal becuse it's freedom from all that shit freedom from religion freedom from mainstream stuff and much much more
Just stay metal thats all \m/
I love the vids dude, CKN forever!
i hate it when my friends associate self infliction and heavy metal music they are 2 different things
"waking you up to the harsh realities around you." well said.
Every single point you make is logically explained, which is why this video is awesome! Just as awesome as metal
Rap metal?
Nice Naglfar bro!! Review Old Man's Child!!
Do you like Mayhem? What about punk bands like Adrenaline OD, Dischard, or Reagan Youth?
of all the black metal out their, I like the first Venom album. I also have A Immortal records (Blizzard Beast).
Hey man, where did you get that Naglfar "Sheol" longsleeve?
You forgot to mention that heavy metal is also perfect for your mental health. The psychology department at Queensland University did a recent study on why people enjoy listening to heavy metal, and/or heavy rock music in general. One of the BIG reasons is because of a lot of current heavy metal songs match emotions to the listeners.
I agree with you on everything you said, great video
pantera were very successful but i wouldn't say they crossed over
I need help, i like metallica, megadeth, and slayer but it's hard for me to actually "get into it".Like i like it but i get bored with it easy.can someone please give me advice on how to get into the metal genre.i know that somewhere inside me is a metalhead, but i was raised on alternative rock.
All are true, #3-#5 apply to me the most.
So do you know when the new into eternity album will be released and what is your opinion on the new lead singer
What is that shirt he is wearing its cool if anyone knows what band it is let me know
You sir know so much about metal, that I'm actually a bit jealous.
Sunshine and fuckin' cheerios. Hell yeah.
