My boss is starting to teach me how to screen print next week(I do embroidery, digital printing and some office stuff right now) so this video was super nice. I know bits and pieces of the process so it was nice seeing it all put together! Thanks!:)
Thank you for the instructional videos. I just bought all of my parents neighbors screen printing equipment including all of his sublimation equipment. He ran his business out of his home for 35 years. Anyways I worked with him for a few weeks plus he is going to help me for the next year at my shop. Channels like yours are a huge help to me as I learn the basics. I hope that this coming summer to open up my own shop. Thanks again, excuse me as I go watch the rest of your videos
We had the films already printed and i just brushed over how to send us files. This was more for our clients who didn't know anything about the screen printing process. Once colors are in spot, they separate out pretty easily in Indesign printer settings. And to answer your other question, Vastex 2000hd 6/6 and we have a 4/4
Great video, thanks for taking the time to help us understand the process. The spot color was something new to me. I'll definitely do that going forward when I send creative to our vendor. Some feedback for you, the level on your background music track is a bit high so at times it's difficult to hear the instruction. All in all, a great video, thank you.
Hey greetings from Venezuela, have a good shop with good machines screen printers I'm also just do the same process that only more traditional home emulsion, but anyway I like your advice on many silkscreen hope you continue placing more videos .. thanks
@rochelle Renee, This was just as short video to show people who don't screen print what the process is like. We have a dark room we store screens squeegee side up. There's so many variables with what kind of exposure unit, mesh count, type of emulsion etc. Best way to know your exposure time is use a test strip. Flash drying is just so wet ink doesn't stick to back of screen, about 5 secs. Hope that answers some of your questions.
Fourambition That's a nice little video...just got my first press... that's all I've got lol but it's my first step taken... nice video... might fire some questions your way sometime... thanks
I love how you cut to the chase, great approach. I'd like to know about how to register accurately for 2 or 3 colors. Especially, how you know when to pull down your second and third screen so that they line up properly. Please advise if you can. Thanks.
fourambition, woaooo I love it... You make look easy... I'm starting at my home, I have small machine, no bad for start... Thank you for your patiencie and show your tips
Hi, Thank for the tips... Didn't see the emulsion step, how to know the exposure time, the light source step or how to store screens to dry emulsion. Do you have to use a darkroom to apply the emulsion... ? What type of light bulb...? How do you know how long to flash dry ...? How do you know how long to expose...? Love, Rochelle
Ok, interesting film but I'm a complete novice and am unaware of how a lot of the processes work. I've always wanted to have a go as a hobby, giving me a creative outlet but I can't find any information that's basic enough for me. Would you please suggest how I proceed.
Anton Haq There's a book called printing tshirts for fun and profit. Basically a text book for screen printing and can give you all the insight and know how you would need
fourambition Very fast update, just managed to get a copy for £12 with postage, a good condition second hand copy. I'm delighted, a new one was £45! Thanks again.
We've never had a screen expose by leaving out prior the exposing. Granted, they are never out longer than a minute because im pretty quick about getting them lined up and in the exposure unit. May depend on type of emulsion you use but ours has to have that UV black light to properly expose
It has to go through a RIP system when printing and there's more print settings in Indesign. Its just supposed to be done that way and thats the way I teach it in my intro-to-printing class
GREAT BREAKDOWN. Screen Printing is not a simple process. You make it look easy but in the end its a lot of work that people/customers just don't realize go into making a custom shirt.
Do most screen print shops retain the screen of their design or is it washed and discarded for the next design? Once the screens are created, that is the hard part right? From my inexperience it looks so...
How many presses do you have? If you don't mind me asking, what does your company net on average every month? I understand if you don't want to answer that question. I'm just trying to get an idea. For now I run my shop out of my garage with one press (6/4 Vastex V1000).
I noticed after you did the emulsion you washed the screen off in the light, a lot of other sites/videos say that you should do this while still in a dark room... is that not the case? I am new at this and want to make sure I don't ruin a screen or make any mistakes. Thanks!
Can someone tell me the quality difference between this method and using a printer with full range color printing and a heat press? Is this for bulk order processing? I feel like these 8-12 screen printing presses are too limited on color. I'm thinking about getting a home unit to make some swag for my channel and am confused as to what I should be considering.
Dope video! got a question, i just recently bought a epson 1440 printer for transparencies. Could you make a video on how to print them, i've tried to print on transparencies so far and it just keeps saying the paper needs to be reloaded when i already have it in there smh.
curious is the water proof film a special type of printer paper or can you uses regular multipurpose paper. And is there a solution for laser printers if you don't have an inkjet? Also for the vaccum developing press what is it can you uses a regular uv lamp or florescence lamp? As i have the photoresist chemicals and screen printing ink but i am just trying to figure out how to print and develop the design on my mesh. I can develop the graphics design in software fine the issue is printing out the design and developing it. At the point of washing it down is the part i can do and beyond.
I have a couple of questions: 1. Does the material of the shirts have to be polyester o can it be silks or cotton? 2. what is the ink made out off? 3. Do you have to wash the shirt when you finish the process of screen printing? 4. How long does the screen printed design stays in the shirt? 5. what is more economic to do screen printing or digital printing?
1 A: it can be any thing, even a jeans ! 2 A: most of the time water base 3 A: no you don't need wash the t shirt 4 A: depends on the paint quality , can be everlasting 5 A: Print Screen is more economic , the digital it is way far expensive !
Curious why you choose to output from InDesign instead of AI?? ... Also, the emulsion you're using tolerates that much UV in the room while setting up your films & exposing???
Hi, what is the industry terminology for the best quality cotton shirts with a soft feel and high quality stitching? Also, REI makes my favorite shirt, the REI Sahara T-Shirt. But, it's polyester. Is it possible to screen print on a polyester fabric?
Great video but i think you missed explaining how to apply the photoresist chemicals and how the vaccum developing machine works. It seems the screens you used where already prepared with photoresist and you just used the machine and washed them. I do have to say i like your tricks on lineing everything up and the washing part seems to be a regular nozzle no special pressure washer need.
What's a good price to sell the shirts? (1 color, 2 color, 3 color, and 4 color).. Like buy so many get a discount? How much does it take to make the shirt for you and how much do you charge.. The profit?
can i get a 4 color 2 station (one station) press for less than a grand? is that too much in the hobbyist realm for your experience. just doing small run band shirts. was also thinking of ,maybe making a press with hinge claps as most of the work will only be 2 color. thoughts. all the shirts will be soft hand H2O soluble inks if that matters. additional question ... do you have much experience with H2O inks ... would you still flash 'em? seems i should though i haven't in the past. also what printer and film do you use? i really doubt i will print out like you do but i may investigate.
yes, anything is doable! We started on a homemade press years ago. Flashing all depends on the ink and shirt color if its required but you can get a soft vintage feel without flashing. Our film printer is an epson 1200 from silkscreeningsupplies.com
Our shop has vastex presses as well. Good presses. Why 4ambition doesn't use an auto flash is beyond me. They are always turning their flash by hand. Just curious. Other than that they do good work.
This video is the most helpful I've found after days of searching, few questions bro, I really don't know much of this so Im probably going to sound stupid. The screen you use, it looks like just a frame and glass, also has a green material over it or idk if thats just the color of the glass/screen. My question is where do I obtain one of those, do they sell the frame complete or I have to build it up and find the green screen. Cause I know that the green thing some sort of film right?. but how exactly is it called, also about the printer you used to print the images, can I have the name of it or how should I ask for one of those at a store?. Plz help me out. Amazing video btw.
if you received a jpeg file that was not spot colored or if the measurements werent standard would there be anyway to resize the image before printing it or could the printer match the colors (as close as possible) in order to print (2 or 3 color image) ??
Is it similar for making silk screen prints? I see art prints that say 18 colors, etc, it would be 18 layers of the ink? How do you mix the ink? Good video, hot guy, wish he did this shirtless.
I remember doing this in high school and it was my favorite class. Ended up going back multiple times to help too. Counselor made fun of this class because it would "drop the GPA", but I loved it.

we coat many screens at a time and store in a dark room so we can use as needed. The coating process was not explained in this video but that is a good question and should be a video we should do in the future.
Awesome process, thanks for sharing. I just started working in a place with similar equipment and the process they use takes longer when printing, I think it might be something to do with the inks. Can you recommend a good ink that you can use straight out the tube? Many thanks

I have been in prepress for 40 years and this is the first time I have seen the screen process, pretty interesting
We had a little experience with this over the years. Thank you for showing others some of the things involved.
Great tutorial. We use the Vastex v1000 for live screen printing. It holds great registration.
Great Job, using the video for educational purposes. I wish the music was lower. Some parts are hard to hear!
Shawn Racioppa wtf
My dad started a screen print business 25 years ago man i respect him for that

love the step by step process, really helps. We getting ready to do our first tee in mid April 2018 So excited.
Thank you
This is the process id love to learn. you ended up on my deep dive of research and youtube university. thanks for that.
Fourambition That's a nice little video...just got my first press... that's all I've got lol but it's my first step taken... nice video... might fire some questions your way sometime... thanks
Really dope. What would a home version look like? DIY but still great quality.
What is the scaled down version to fit in a garage or something
Great work guys! Awesome video!
I love how you cut to the chase, great approach. I'd like to know about how to register accurately for 2 or 3 colors. Especially, how you know when to pull down your second and third screen so that they line up properly. Please advise if you can. Thanks.
wow,,,great job..nice way to show people that want to get into this bizz....like me...lol
fourambition, woaooo I love it...
You make look easy...
I'm starting at my home, I have small machine, no bad for start...
Thank you for your patiencie and show your tips
when we print film positives we put alignment guides on our film. It make registering the film onto the platen easier and for the burning also
Brilliant video. Have just ordered a nice starter kit, and this video really helps. Thank you!
Which kit did you get?
iR3CT Intro2Pro 4 Colour 2 Station Tabletop Waterbased Kit from a company in the UK..cant wait to get it!..:)
starting my new job in 2 or 3 days thank you for the VIDEO!
Do you need a degree for this job?
people think you press a button and a shirt falls out of the sky.
Larry Overstreet lmao
Larry Overstreet exactly
Larry Overstreet I tell the people that rush me the same thing.
Larry Overstreet you literally have to educate your customers.
It's Not Like what u say😂 everybody knows there's a process, but doesn't know what kind the process is
Great work and great equipement, will that make printing costly?
Great video, thanks. Are you using special in könne that Epson 1400?
Great demonstration
I Lov simple instructions not to much talking. Great Job definitely will b paying attn to Ur Video's
thank you for making this video.... what is the software that you are using?
What kind of emulsion are you guys using. it seems that you are doing things in a very bright room.
that is fab i am going to start screen print transfers is this a good idea or bad
Hi,
Thank for the tips... Didn't see the emulsion step, how to know the exposure time, the light source step or how to store screens to dry emulsion.
Do you have to use a darkroom to apply the emulsion... ?
What type of light bulb...?

Rochelle

fourambition Thank you, sounds ideal, I'm off to Amazon for a copy.
fourambition Very fast update, just managed to get a copy for £12 with postage, a good condition second hand copy. I'm delighted, a new one was £45! Thanks again.
Anton Haq thats awesome!
fourambition I'm really pleased, I've got loads of ideas for designs, who knows, what starts as a hobby may just make me a rich man.
its good man planning to start my screen printing business in Kenya Africa.
watching from kenya too
we can be your supplier. www.mfgjb.com
What application is used
We've never had a screen expose by leaving out prior the exposing. Granted, they are never out longer than a minute because im pretty quick about getting them lined up and in the exposure unit. May depend on type of emulsion you use but ours has to have that UV black light to properly expose
I was wondering about the exposure of the screens.
Great video, and your super fluid. Hope to get that way someday.
It has to go through a RIP system when printing and there's more print settings in Indesign. Its just supposed to be done that way and thats the way I teach it in my intro-to-printing class

Do most screen print shops retain the screen of their design or is it washed and discarded for the next design? Once the screens are created, that is the hard part right? From my inexperience it looks so...
iR3CT We usually reclaim and reuse the screens for future orders. We only keep the screen if we know we'll print again very soon
very cool video how and why do you choose the type of mesh screen? i heard you say "its black ink so ill use a 200 mesh screen".
Do you only have black ink in your Epson printer. Or do you have the yellow blue etc ink in there as well?
What an awe inspiring process!
How many presses do you have? If you don't mind me asking, what does your company net on average every month? I understand if you don't want to answer that question. I'm just trying to get an idea. For now I run my shop out of my garage with one press (6/4 Vastex V1000).

It depends on the nature of the job, spot colour artwork without fine detail isn't affected as much as halftone artwork
Registration points.....makes life as a screen printer/color separation artist much much much easier.
Good morning, which company supplies this type of carousel or press with 10 cradles?
Can someone tell me the quality difference between this method and using a printer with full range color printing and a heat press? Is this for bulk order processing? I feel like these 8-12 screen printing presses are too limited on color. I'm thinking about getting a home unit to make some swag for my channel and am confused as to what I should be considering.
Great video, If I wanted to design logos and graphics for t shirts what program would you recommend for a MAC? Also do you guys have website?
Dope video! got a question, i just recently bought a epson 1440 printer for transparencies. Could you make a video on how to print them, i've tried to print on transparencies so far and it just keeps saying the paper needs to be reloaded when i already have it in there smh.

I have a couple of questions:

What's a good 3-4 color screen print machine for someone getting started? I want to make great quality shirts that last.
I honestly think Vastex is the best press on the market, Ryonet just markets better, but their Riley Hopkins press is almost just as good
Use Asian silkscreen style. Using long table. I do sell those item.. Fb.me/kurama87
702 BNZ Atlas four color/single pallet table top.
702 BNZ a good quality ink for starters I recommend Wilflex ink
www.mfgjb.com contact this company
When do you put the emulsion on the frame, is it not light sensitive? What does the frame do in the Lumitron?
Thanks for the video, I've made the decision to do lots of research on screen printing!
Nice video! Thanks for sharing.
What is the SCREEN EXPOSURE UNIT brand?
After coating with elmosion how long should it dry for. No one seens to say the time. Thanks
THIS IS AWESOME!!!
Where are you located?
You for got reclaiming and coating screens.
What program is that you are using in the beginning? Is it affordable?
Thank you for a very good video to explain the process!
Is that light or heat that you use to partially cure the ink?
Curious why you choose to output from InDesign instead of AI?? ... Also, the emulsion you're using tolerates that much UV in the room while setting up your films & exposing???

any recommendations on screen o printing equipment to start of
What emulsion are you using? I was told that you have be be in an dark room?
yes we print on 100% polyestor all the time. Those wicken dryfit shirts are becoming very popular
Great presentation!

whats the best ink to use for screen printing t shirts? @fourambition

Can you only screen print on clothing that has a flat surface? I have some t shirts with a bumpy texture but I don’t know if it will work
if you received a jpeg file that was not spot colored or if the measurements werent standard would there be anyway to resize the image before printing it or could the printer match the colors (as close as possible) in order to print (2 or 3 color image) ??
You make it sound more complex then it actually is.
Thank you for the video. It was really informative.
Counselor made fun of this class because it would "drop the GPA", but I loved it.
awesome stuff cheers for this
What was the machine called that you put the screen in before washing it?
I don't know if this question will make sense, but I'm just starting to research this, so bare with me =]
Do you store your screens with the emulsion already on it? The other videos that I've seen (Which weren't nearly as informative, so thank you) weren't clear about that part of the process
we coat many screens at a time and store in a dark room so we can use as needed. The coating process was not explained in this video but that is a good question and should be a video we should do in the future.
Thank you! It's all starting to make sense now =]
Were you printing with water based ink or plastisol? Thanks! :)
completely forgot about spot colour... so are these in vector?
Awesome process, thanks for sharing. I just started working in a place with similar equipment and the process they use takes longer when printing, I think it might be something to do with the inks. Can you recommend a good ink that you can use straight out the tube? Many thanks
Great Video! talking and demonstrating at the same time, make's learning very easy. chur!
This might be a stupid question, but what type of PPI is the best for this type of screen printing? Also, do you know of a good way to print the image out if you don't have the printer that you have (not the silk screen but the printer used to print out the illustrator image)?
You must use some kind of transparency when exposing your screens and a good quality inkjet film printer should be used. If its a diazo emulsion, you can get away with laser transparencies.
I work in d.t.g. printing/screen printing and we are in the process of printing stadium cushions. Having problems with the ink smearing. Do you have any tips?
Awesome info my friend!
thanks for the step by step guide.
Hell Yeah. Legit and to the point. Great Video.
Awesome video! Thank you!
what kind/name paper you use for film and ink you use...thanks
How do you match the colors? I mean how do you set up the tables that they are perfectly matched?
apology printer model you are using and what kind of paper is this??
Great video but background music was a little loud and I couldn't hear instructions as well as needed
