      Great recommendation actually - Fort Edmonton is great, went there last summer and it had been years since I'd been there. Tons of cool history and the steam train is awesome. Cheers!

    Thanks for your video. It's nicely done.
    Sadly, Edmonton is a small town that thinks it's a city, and unfortunately, all the places one could visit and have a great experience are done on such a small scale, it's not befitting of the work and money put into building these places. Many events and experiences are akin to "goin' to uncle Bob's birthday party" when it comes to planning and execution, but with the cost of events and places in big, cultural centres. People need to think big when putting on events and experiences. Create some ambiance, a sense of coherence for the downtown core, pick a theme or narrative and stick with it. Have corporate funding for more events and art installations, and bring in some more greenery, or better yet flowers.
    Also the drug and homeless situation has profoundly affected this city. It makes it at best unpleasant to go places, at worst dangerous. Calgary helped curb the problem with some housing and more policing of transit and downtown areas. People will come to the area if they feel safe.
    Nicely done.

    I find the Mall is becoming more and more run down. It's almost pointless to go there as it's generic stores and a auto dealership. They don't even want to give you a food tray at the food court as they are too cheap to pay for someone to clean them. The Water park is also super expensive as it's $64 bucks a person these days, and the amusement park is a shell of it's former self.

    • @strangenorth
      @strangenorth  15 วันที่ผ่านมา

      Actually I'd sorta agree about the mall being more run down than before, but it's usually not too bad when I'm there - although I rarely visit. And the amusement park has definitely suffered huge from the loss of rides like the mindbender. I still think it's a great place if you need to do a rare shopping spree and I really think the waterpark is a solid attraction year round. Thanks for watching and I appreciate when people take the time to leave feedback!

    • @strangenorth
      @strangenorth  หลายเดือนก่อน

      Hey thanks for watching and I appreciate when people take the time to comment - you know what that's a fair criticism, you could argue the city needed that more than a new arena. "And number seven is the MUH-TART Conservatory" !!! Please! Please stop spreading your mispronunciation of this famous family of Edmonton, instead teaching readers and listeners the correct pronunciation. Muh-tart. ( By the way grammatically it makes sense: the word "mutant" has one t, Muttart has two t's--- long and short U pronunciation rule. )
    The Muttart family built hundreds of homes in Edmonton in the 1950s. I too grew up in Edmonton, but in the early 1950s, and know I'm correct in this pronunciation: muh-tart. Some second and third generation Edmontonians need to be taught how to pronounce historic Edmonton family names as the old timers from back then have all left us to carry on loving our city. You can help out here, and I"d greatly appreciate you taking on this role in your TH-cam, stressing correct pronunciations of words like this one. Feel free to ask this 76 year old Edmonton resident anything you'd like about the good old days of our hometown. There's a lot here that has been forgotten. I like your site and always read the Edmonton and Alberta topic posts. Keep up the good work. BTW this TEN Must See list was bang on. :)

      @strangenorth  หลายเดือนก่อน

      Hey thanks for watching and I appreciate when people take the time to comment - I actually didn't know that, I always heard it pronounced that way! I appreciate the clarification. Lol seems like I make at least one mistake per video but I'm striving to improve. I'm looking forward to doing more Edmonton videos down the road. Cheers, have a great week!

      I moved here 30 years ago love this city. Downtown sadly has some homeless people. But it is totally safe during the day. Weekdays are the best time to visit. Much of downtown is closed on the weekends. Because without the office workers it is pretty empty and quiet.

    Oh god, I hate WEM...
    They're raising their rents to EXTORTIONATE AMOUNTS so local businesses can't afford to be there, and now the damn mall is just full of big bougie overpriced stores that really just yank out the personality of the mall...
    They have a stupid car sales place in phase one.
    A car.
    Sales.
    Lot.
    In phase one.
    Who the hell wants to go to a mall to shop for stupid suvs???
    I start to hate that place more and more...

    • @strangenorth
      @strangenorth  หลายเดือนก่อน

      I don't hate WEM but I think it's terrible when building owners are abusive with their unreasonable rates. More local stores in the mall would be a great thing! I still think the mall is a great option for those rare times when a person has a whole lot of shopping to do. For me the best thing about the mall is the attractions, in my opinion the waterpark is an underrated place to have a great time in the city (especially in winter). Cheers mate, thanks for watching and leaving feedback!

      Edmonton gets millions of tourists a year. I grew up in Northern BC and at least half the people I knew went to Edmonton as a yearly vacation. I know quite a few people that will visit just for West Edmonton Mall or to watch a game or concert. You're clueless if you think no one wants to visit Edmonton as the facts speak for themselves
