I bought an ebike this year ($470) when I found out my second car needed an engine (just outside of warranty) and I had just finished paying the car off.. Replacing the engine would have cost 7k so I I bought an ebike to commute to work daily 13 mile round trip. I have saved about 14k this year in car payments, car insurance, maintenance and gasoline. I don't know the max range but I can ride it to work and back home and then I just plug it in overnight so it's fully charged in the morning just like I do my cell phone and laptop. I have put about 1200 miles on it so far this year. At first I was getting flat tires like every week... so I bought some tubes pre-filled with green slime and I have not had a flat since. I can see a dozen punctures where a small amount of slime came through before self-sealing the tire. There really is no maintenance on an ebike. once a month I go over the nuts and bolts to make sure nothing has backed off or become loose from riding. I would suggest that you replace the stock brakes with hydraulic disc brakes if your bike did not come with them. it's not hard to do and you can get brake kits on amazon for as low as $40. I love my ebike and I'm about to build another one with a 72v system (aiming for 55-60mph top speed)
I have been riding ebikes for 10 years. Initially weight and motor location (hub vs mid drive) was not a problem. As I aged (now at 82) both weight and motor location did become an issue. I did not want a full throttle ebike (I might as well take my car) as I enjoyed both the free air and exercise part of cycling. So I wanted to control my bike. So watch weight and buy mid drive. Love my SL Specialized step through ebike. Sure I paid for those “delicious” attributes but they were well worth it.😊
consider total cost of ownership. Traditional bikes will last 20 years - you buy it once. Ebike batteries have to be replaced every few years at >$700 a pop. I am at that point right now. I can spend $700 for a battery that will last 3 years, or $700 on a bike that will last forever. I think I'm going back to a regular bike.
okay.. but a car payment is like $350 a month plus $100-150 on insurance. you can get a samsung, LG, Panasonic (branded name packs) 48v 20AH for like $300-$370 which will last for YEARS of daily usage. That's like $100 a year lol so /eyeroll The price on batteries will only come down with demand and development of better batteries

Ebikes are the future, even more than electric cars.

Ebikes are simple to maintain and I ve got 3500 miles on my $1200 ebike
Maintaince is expensive on electric bikes or scooters ..I learned my lesson I prefer regular mountain bike .

I would not buy another one
Buying overpriced Chinese batteries. Buy proper certified batteries from reputable sources and you’ll eat your words

$6000 is pure consumer rape. No ebike is equipt nor worth $6000.
You be surprised what goes into the price.
