Ebenezer Obey settled 40year old rift with Segun Awe. KSA should allow peace talks with his old pals

  • In 2018, I interviewed Mr Segun Awe on the premises of LTV/Eko Fm. It was on a Sunday in November. I salute Segun Awe’s courage and knowledge. He really knows a lot about his genre of music, Juju.
In that interview, which has since been posted on this channel, he came all out, without hiding under a finger, and without sounding toady, though some fans had assumed it was pride on his part.
However, shortly after, I had a great opportunity of meeting Commander Ebenezer Obey-Fabiyi and he told me he’ll like to tell his side of Mr Segun Awe’s story.
That’s it. I had wanted that interview so badly but the Segun Awe interview did it for me through Mr Adebayo Segun who is very close to Commander.
We set out and got it done. It was aired but it wasn’t settled. I took extra effort to speak with Alagba Segun Awe privately to please allow me to settle the matter once and for all. He gladly agreed.
I spoke also with Baba Commander, and he said he prefers the way of peace. We set out on the agreed date for Abeokuta at Commander’s country home. Alagba Segun Awe set out in company of my late friend, Dare Best.
The meeting held and it was settled after we had let out the reason I facilitated the meeting. We took photos and we all left. Though I won’t forget that Baba said specifically that he had told Segun Awe that Segun would come back to him for blessing and prayers. The peace parley was reported and published in the Saturday Tribune.
I decided to release Commander’s precise words at that meeting on TH-cam for a reason.
The reason is that I, Dele Adeyanju wish and urge King Sunny Ade to tow this line.
Let King Sunny Ade invite all his old pals living and make reconciliation with them. He remains their leader and father. He should live by that example he sang about bi ija ba de, se lo ye ka pari e. Even if it’s a rift of 50years, they should think of the time they had it good.
His aggrieved old pals should however also realize that they cannot always accuse and accuse KSA. Bygones should be bygones for old times sake. KSA should facilitate the meeting and for those old members he thinks need any form of support, he should do whatever he can no matter how little.
The lord has blessed our KSA so much, and as he approaches his Oak jubilee in a few years, I pray for renewed strength for him.
And that is my wish, Peace, for all old members of the African Beats.

This is merely a replay of an old reconciliation video between Segun Awe and Commander Obey i.e. from 3 years ago. Good though that Segun Awe sought forgiveness and made peace with Commander Obey as Obey did him no wrong.

I however don’t understand what you mean by ‘plagiarization’ or ‘mere replay’ because this is the time I chose to upload it fully on TH-cam. Just for your Information sir or ma.

As great as Segun Awe would have being in his life, Lack of adequate education, stubbornness, and wrong association might have contributed to his life troubles; but he is very good at what he does if it is true that he played those rhythms in Obeys albums.

It was that "good at what he does" that got into his head and made it swollen. Exuberance and stupidity can sometimes rob one of his future and there we have it in his case. He would be thinking then that he was indispensable to commander obey, forgetting that there are thousands of his types hanging out there. It came to pass and he was the worse for it.

Telling your stories as they are true to you might just be it for Segun Awe. Mind you there are no differences in the story narrative if you care to listen to both sides but experience and time differs for Baba Obey and Segun Awe. Whilst reconciliation is good, I think it unfair to use Segun Awe's reapproach to Baba Commander as the yardstick for saying KSA should reconcile with his bandsmen as if he woke up one morning and kicked them out. If what is in the public domain is true, they mutinied against his leadership whilst abroad! They preferred assertion of the rights to money ( which was in fact due to them) to his leadership. In their erroneous thinking, they were the salt to the Synchro Soup Kitchen and without them mo food. They left KSA. He had to rebuild from the ground up again! And you now ask him to reconcile? For what? Let them swallow their pride and ask for his own forgiveness for they were the ones who erred!
Worse, in all these years, they could not reach out to him ' with style' on the occasions he celebrated his 60th, 70th birthdays or married off several of his children? Ija ilara!
Iru Olorun ni ko so, iru eniyam wa jaburata!
We see this travesty in the professions and businesses everyday and it is sad

Sir, you focus on one set of the African Beats. I think it's also unfair to use the basis of those who left in 84 to treat those who left even years after. Some left in the 70s, some left in the 80s, some left in 2000s. It's a normal thing. Kuro ni ise mi ko kii se kuro laye. If KSA were to be my biological father, this is exactly what I would tell him. Dad, for old time sake, allow peace with your friends with whom you once had played music, so that no one would hold grudges against you. It takes nothing away from KSA. It only shows that he is indeed a father and leader. So please sir, I'm talking of African Beats alumni generally, not the 84 set alone.

If they choose to keep distance, no problem. They too can approach KSA to make up. More than anyone else, KSA's ex bandsmen know the people who can bring them together again but truth and pride prevents them from doing the needful whilst we are here asking KSA to cajole the unwilling.
