  • UPDATE 2019-10-05: The new owner of the RiderScan mirror has them in-stock on their website ( www.sportourin... ) and they are also on Amazon again ( www.amazon.com... ).
    UPDATE 2019-07-25: The original manufacturer of the RiderScan (HunterCreate.com) has sold the operation to a new owner (Sportouring.com). I have been in contact with the new owner, and they advised that a new production batch of the RiderScan mirror should be available within the next few weeks. I will send an update when I hear back from them to share the good news with everyone that has inquired about it! Cheers! --QM
    Before I headed up to Austin to COTA for the races, I installed some of my accessories. This video details the installation of the RiderScan mirror on the Can-Am Adjustable Sport Windshield.
    The best approach that I figured out is to push the windshield down to the lowest position and then mount the mirror so it rests on top of the black wind visor. The 3M VHB adhesive mounts are VERY sticky, so you get one shot to get them on correctly.
    The RiderScan is a great safety aid for any traffic situation. There is a learning curve to understanding and using it effectively, but after you become accustomed to it, you'll wonder how you ever got along without it.
    I really like this mirror on my standard/upright bikes (e.g. scooters, cruisers, and standard seating positions). I don't know how well it will work for my sportbikes because my arms would block the peripheral view area that the RiderScan helps to see. In general, the closer your eyes are to the mirror, the more you'll be able to see (everything appears smaller because of the convex mirror shape). I will try to dig up my spare RiderScan mounts, and I'll transfer the mirror to my Honda CB500F or Yamaha R1 to see how well it works.
    You can order it from Amazon here: amzn.to/3nJjXLp
    Here is the manufacturer's page: www.sportourin...
    And this is their TH-cam channel: / riderscanofficial

      Thanks for the feedback! I like to install all of the useful accessories for touring and commuting, but only if they are functional. I don't like add-ons that are just for cosmetic reasons... the item must have a functional or safety-related purpose. I will usually remove the accessories that I don't need for my normal commutes and weekend rides... less is better in those circumstances. --QM

      Yes and yes! I have these mirrors on several of my bikes, and I can't recommend them highly enough. The RiderScan is a great safety aid in traffic, and it has saved my bacon more than once. The finish on these mirrors is surprisingly tough, too... I haven't noticed any scratches or problems in any of them, including the one that's been on my Honda SilverWing for over 8 years. I was concerned at first that the adhesive mounts might let go in the Texas heat, but the 3M VHB is excellent! 👍 --QM

    Hi, can you give me an idea of what it's made of? I presume it isn't bent glass, is it a polished metal? I want to a blindspot mirror to place in my motorbike hand guards so need something like this but cut down to a particular shape. Do you think this can be cut?

    • @QuasiMotard
      @QuasiMotard  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      The mirror is made from a thermoplastic (ABS presumably), so it could certainly be cut if needed. The reflective coating is deposited on the surface and it's quite durable. However, I don't know how well the surface would perform if the mirror was cut down... the coating might flake away at the edges. 😉👍 --QM

      These mounts use the 3M VHB tape that is really strong. I've had this same mirror on my Silverwing for 7+ years and it hasn't budged a millimeter. I purchased a second set of mounts with that mirror several years ago, just in case I screwed one up, or wanted to move that mirror to another bike. Neither one of those situations has happened yet.

      @QuasiMotard  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@indiemusicpress4091 Yes, they are fully assembled in the box. There are adjustment screws that are used to position the adhesive mounting "ears" and to set the proper angle... just tighten those after everything is aligned properly. • @QuasiMotard
      @QuasiMotard  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I think you'll be pleased with the mirror. My order took about 7-10 days to arrive because they're shipped from the UK via Royal Post. Also note that you need to be present for the delivery (signature required, usually). I missed the initial delivery and had to go to my post office to sign and pick it up. There is a slight learning curve to using it effectively in traffic because most people aren't accustomed to seeing a 180-degree view in a singe image. After you get used to the fun house mirror effect, it becomes second nature to assimilate the info just like any other mirror. --QM

    Hi there
    Would you recommend completely eliminating side mirrors with this product.
    ????
    Would it work with a sportbike??

    • @QuasiMotard
      @QuasiMotard  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I would NOT recommend deleting the original side mirrors unless you intend to replace them with bar-end mirrors (at least one on the left handlebar in the USA). The RiderScan gives a wide, panoramic view, but it doesn't allow you to see directly behind you... your body blocks that perspective. As for mounting it on a sportbike, you can do it as long as you have a tall enough windscreen with an angle of greater than 45 degrees. The adhesive mounting pads and pivoting bracket for the mirror assume a near-vertical mounting plane, and you'll need enough height for the mirror to clear your torso (need to see above or below your arms and shoulders for the peripheral view). Let me know if you have any other questions... maybe I can take few pictures of the mirror on one of my bikes to help. Cheers! 👍 --QM

    • @QuasiMotard
      @QuasiMotard  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      There is a learning curve to using the RiderScan effectively because the view is very unconventional. However, it's positioned well below my eyeline and I don't find it to be distracting (the camera position is about 6" lower, so it's closer to the mirror than my eyes are). Cheers! 😉👍 --QM

    • @QuasiMotard

      These mirrors can be a life saver in busy traffic! I've had many narrow-misses where the RiderScan prevented an accident. Houston cagers drive very fast and aggressive, so it's not uncommon to have a vehicle appear in a blind spot within just a couple of seconds. Check once and nobody is there, then start to change lanes and suddenly there is a giant SUV about to run you over. It's a war zone out there, so any safety item that tips the battlefield in the motorcyclists favor is a win! Cheers! 👍 --QM

    • @QuasiMotard

      The RiderScan mirror helps during night rides, but I don't notice the benefits as much as during the daytime. Car headlights behind me or to the sides aren't amplified in the mirror because of the convex shape, and the mirror is in my peripheral vision instead of being in direct eye line. Cheers! 👍 --QM

      Here is the manufacturer's page: www.huntercreate.com . You can probably order direct from them, which is what I did several years ago before Amazon carried the product. Note that buying from Amazon doesn't mean local (USA) fulfillment... it still ships Royal Post from the UK, so it's probably the same time and price as ordering direct. I have had so many comments and compliments on it because of the Ryker videos that I have considered bulk ordering 10-20 of them and then re-shipping to people here in the USA.
