    I think one of my friends has an e-Residency through Estonia. I recall a few years ago that he set something up in Estonia to where he could register his photography business there although he was fully remote. I think that this is a great idea for anyone whom is fully remote with no set location for the business. Great video!

      Thanks Scott! That's great to hear that the program has been useful for your friend! It's definitely a viable option for many people. Which country was he from?

      @@TravelingwithKristin He's from Canada. He bought an apartment in Portugal this year after being a digital nomad for many years. I'm not sure if he will be keeping the e-Residency in Estonia or if he is going to have his photography business be in Portugal. If he does the latter, it might be a little easier with Estonia and Portugal being both in the EU.

    I'm glad Estonia started this trend. I wish there was a global agreement for certain people who work remote like me to be global citizens; basically you could pay 25% income tax and all of the partner nations would split it, then you could live in any of them. For as appealing as Estonia is I wouldn't move there because of the lousy cold weather :)

    I actually recently moved to Estonia as a resident from Canada and FYI banking is very strict and challenging for both personal accounts and Estonian corporate accounts. You have to prove source of funds and also if you are a resident show your salary etc. It is not as easy as even a few years ago. You need to go organized with all personal data and if it is corporate business plans, contracts, etc Video was great Kristin!

      You're not alone! There is a lot of confusion about the differences and since I made the video about the digital nomad visa, I figured I should also make one about Estonian e-residency to balance things out and clarify which each is for. Maybe one day every country will have a digital nomad visa! Which country's are you most interested in?

    Being an EU citizen who wishes to travel around the world while operating a company in Estonia, is an advantage because its easier to open a bank account for e-residency. You would have to register in Estonia first, as an EU citizen that would not be a problem. The banks there would then be more willing to open a bank account for you, seeing as you would be living in Estonia. But, you may still have to pay taxes in any other EU country, if you plan on traveling only in the EU. For example: if i live in Germany and operate my company in Estonia using the card, im gonna pay taxes in Germany too! I would have to travel around the EU from country to Country and make sure i stay no-longer than 3 months each time, so as to avoid being seen as living there. Its tricky. As for American E-residents: dont you still have to pay taxes back to US as an American citizen even if you travel and operate a company in Estonia, due to American citizenship based taxation laws?

    • @TravelingwithKristin
      @TravelingwithKristin  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi there, that's great that you've had an easier experience opening a bank account, but not everyone would be able to... Regarding travel, if you are living in Europe, it's possible to open a personal bank account with an online bank like Revolut or N26. However, e-residency doesn't provide any travel permissions. For that you would go with your passport or on the Digital Nomad Visa th-cam.com/video/z0hUBpzk4Ds/w-d-xo.html
      Where your tax domicile is depends on where you're living and what the requirements are to change it from your home country, as well as how long you stay in a different country. Where are you from? Correct, US citizens are taxed on worldwide income and we have a citizenship-based taxation system

      Hi Marian, you are welcome! You could do both - open a company with e-residency and also apply for the digital nomad visa so you could live there for one year. Hi Kristin , how are you ? I open my company at January 2020 unfortunately...... because corona 🦠 ,,,, i lost my job in real life . Billing account by provider is very expensive. How did you solve this problem? I left the company from the fourth month before and I don't know what to do. I am lost, I like the digital residence system and the digital system in Estonia. It's impressive, but for the uninitiated, it's confusing and I feel lost.

    Hi, I've only one question for which I cannot find an answer. If you open the company in Estonia but you are resident in a EU country, so you stay more than 183, can you still open a company abroad and of course pay your personal income taxes in your country ?

    • @sabrinab403
      @sabrinab403 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I think that your company taxes will be the Estonian ones but if you create another company in your home country of else where then you will have to pay the taxes from there and if you're employed you will pay the taxes of your home country

    Careful with trying to open a bank account in Europe as a US Citizen. It is becoming much more difficult due to the US reporting laws...Many banks don't really want the hassle of having to report to the US on account info.

      What do you mean USSA?

    • @robertfeinberg748
      @robertfeinberg748 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I have coined the United States of Soviet America (USSA) and United States of Scamerica to ridicule the current state of this country. I plan to right a book to call into question the legitimacy of the regime. Thank you for asking. I may have referred before to the classic work of G.M. Loeb, The Battle for Investment Survival, who warned many years ago that people should have in mind where they would go if things get really bad. 76% of Americans have concluded that this country is on the wrong track. I have thought this since I read that book as a child. I was theoretically a classmate of Trump, but I've never met him. I plan to devote one chapter of my book to Trump, so that readers who want my perspective can get it and people who want to avoid the subject can do that easily. Critics of Kellyanne Conway, who I have met, whereas I've never met Trump, have chided her for not talking about Trump. She still defends him, whereas I am pointing out that he has always been a Dem, and he is now acting as a Wrecker, which is another Soviet term. A Wrecker is a worker who prevents the plant from fulfilling the plan.

    it's not a residence or work permit - it's an online ID card issued by the Estonian government. That's all. And the remote part isn't true - you still have to go somewhere and physically give your fingerprints and the number of places is limited - 1 in a country usually. There are no annual maintenance fees for the card but there are for the Estonian company! Look - I'm not saying it's bad but you need to go in with your eyes wide open and understand what it is.

    Estonia is now pushing this throughout all of EU member states.
    Once everyone in EU has a digital ID, then it becomes beneficial for all EU citizens to do business and to open any bank accounts or and more entitlements for EU citizens..
    Sorry, this is not really applying to any non EU citizens..
    If this works out with all of the securities concerns worked out, then we could see a huge digital change throughout the entire EU continent.
