Let the new adventures begin! I was pleasantly surprised that this movie opened with a quick scene of my beloved Frodo. There is nothing like a little nostalgia to get my emotions flowing. :) I love the set up of this movie so far. Gandalf ambushed Bilbo with a tribe of dwarves (which was a hilarious scene lol). We are now armed with a couple of handfuls of warrior dwarves, a wizard and a reluctant burglar. What could possibly go wrong? FYI, Part 1B will be posted as soon as I finish the re-edits. You may recognize a couple of the dwarves' names. Gloin is Gimli's father, and Balin was lying within the tomb in Moria, where they had their first battle with orcs and a troll.
@@flowstatereactions That's my bad. There are just so many names to deal with, and of course I had the advantage of reading the books first, long ago. Even knowing the names, I had trouble with The Hobbit movies, remembering who was who among the dwarves.
Sadly despite the rush of these movies as PJ had to help salvage what Deltoro nearly ruined ontop of running away to do other projects… it still holds up.
I wish more people acknowledged what Peter Jackson had to contend with just to save these movies, rather then consider them a blight on his achievements.
Try to find the Extended editions - Bilbo knew Gandalf , whom he first met as a small child. It was the start "of a friendship that has lasted all of my life"... And you see it in the EE. (Along with Bilbo's mother, Belladonna Baggins - formerly Belladonna Took)
((Remember also what I said about the near elvish extinction in a past comment in your LOTR videos)) The thing about the elves and dwarves was really twisted and made trivial. Remember when “Nobody Trust An Elf!” was spoken? Fuller story With a certain clan of Dwarves: A giant set of events throughout the ages caused a huge rift between dwarves & elves since before any elf saw actual Dwarves. Elves are the firstborn. Men are the secondborn. Dwarvish forefathers were created by the hands of one of the Valar named Aulë, then essentially Eru Îlluvatar(AllFather) breathed life into them to later wake up at a later point in a future era since Aulë was still excited to create things of his very own. It’s also why dwarves overall can resist the rings power and so forth. There were these beings became known as Petty Dwarves in the books where these beings were super hostile and the elves thought it was just another spawn of Melkor (now Morgoth) so when they finally did see actual dwarves they killed them on site. Back then they thought these “petty dwarves” as we call them to be other machinations of Morgoth seeing as how he and Mairon>Gorthaur>Sauron have been terrorizing the land and permeating shadows living nightmares throughout the land for thousands of years…. That and dwarves were keen on chopping down trees by huge amounts so you can kind of see why… but this was only the beginning. But it’s not a very good start. Buuut not all dwarvish clans share this rift as the creator of the 16 rings was an elf named Celebrimbor and is one of the best characters ever. His main smithery guild in Eregion was full of dwarves and elves called the “Gwaith Ír Mirdain”. Even Gimli’s father was really close to a certain elf I won’t name yet! ❤ Not all dwarves were enemies to elves. Galadriel and her brother were best friends with dwarves. Famously the fortress of Nargothrond was built by Finrod Felagund with the dwarves! It was only a certain clan that killed Elu Thingol! (Elwë) Galadriel & her elder brother Finrod Felagund were best friends with the dwarves. Finrod was named Felagund by the dwarves meaning “Earth Hewer” from the fact he helped them build the great fortress called Nargothrond of which he was the elven lord that ruled there justly. Was the same for Celebrimbor and the dwarves of Eregion especially the guild called Gwaith Í Mirdain. His bestie was Narvi the dwarf. Narvi and Celebrimbor created the doors of Moria. Moria is also the elvish name for Khazad Dûm. Moria was by other elves who might have snuck in a tiny insult because Moria means black pit. However Celebrimbor and Galadriel both call it what the dwarves call it; which is Khazad Dûm! This gift for Gimli set it into imperishable Crystal and would be the only thing left in middle earth that holds the light of the two trees of Valinor (Valanor by the Eldar). It’s basically the uncursed version of the Nauglamir. He named it The Galadramir. ❤ If you search for 'victorian hair art' then you can see what amazing things people created with hair in the past. Craftsmen as dwarfs were, I imagine that Gimli must have created something beyond exquisite! Gimli attacking the ring shows it has no hold over him just like the Dwarvish rings out of the 16 meant to go to the elves had no hold over them. So technically they could easily be used offensively and defensively but many disappeared over the ages mainly due to Sauron collecting them back again over the last few thousand years. One or two eaten by dragons (not simple minded beasts here. They were twisted and enhanced beings by Melkor/Morgoth(Saurons Upperclassman as far as the Ainur face goes.). There were only a few of them and their offspring are lesser drakes throughout middle earth. Most recent one you’ll see in The Hobbit movie and one other most recent dragon left of the originally created dragons was Scatha, of which I don’t think Scatha even has wings or could fly in any permanent sort of way. “Evil cannot create. Only twist and warp what is already natural to the world”
All of these newfound layers to the characters makes me believe that Tolkien had a fortified team of Angels sitting at the writers desk with him even more. It's truly remarkable that he could think to include so much interesting detail about all of the different species. I am impressed. Thanks for sharing all of this with me.
Oh my, I never realised before that chosing Gimli of all people in Rivendell scene to trying to smash the Ring could have been actualy purposefuly done by PJ team - showing that it was dwarves who never were much affected by their Rings of power as Sauron-Annatar had intended for them! It just downed on me that it could be not only about showing that Gimli is the least informed about the properties of the Ring - not like Elrond, Gandalf, Frodo, Aragorn, and other elves here but it could be also about the speciphic charachteristics of both dwarves as a group and also Gimli himself as the one charachter abou whom (in the book) Galadriel have said that he will have lots of gold (if he lives through the war) but gold will never have power over him :) Gimli was this special personage between dwarves who was awarded by Galadriel becouse of his honor and his immunity to such dwarvish temptation - the "dragon sickness", greed of gold, greed of wealth. So Gimli is very approprate charachter to do this in that scene, to try to destroy the Ring before he is informed that it can not be so easy.
The song you loved. Isn’t even the full song. The fullest I’ve seen is by Clamavi De Profundis and the single cover Shadowcat7 did. She’s a great guitarist and singer. ❤
If you liked the song, you'll want to hear Geoff Castellucci sing it. He dresses up as four dwarves and does all the singing parts. The man has a very large range and it will shake you -- literally. That's Geoff Castellucci Far Over The Misty Mountains Cold. He also does another one from later in the series: I See Fire. You will not regret taking a few minutes to listen to them.
Oh wow, I did NOT expect you to dive into The Hobbit so quickly! What a great surprise! Yes, there's an Extended Version out there, and I am really surprised you couldn't find it. But I'll take what I can get! Hang on for another ride!
Btw, thanks for continuing to watch. I'm amazed that so many people weren't turned off by the popcorn eating in FOTR P1A. Omg, I cringed while I edited that whole section. lol
AFAIR in the first part of "the hobbit" trilogy we actualy dont have much of realy important Ext scenes, it was just this one scene with little Bilbo on the b-day party of the Old Took, his grandpa. But my fav Ext scene is in the "Desolation of Smaug". Its that group scene on the stairs of Master of Laketown palace, with bickering between Thorin, Bard and the Master. As for me its sort of "Wagnerian scene" a debate of one thing betwee 5 sides (Thorin, Bard, Master, the people, and Bilbo), everyone has their own goals and motivations. In the extended version of that scene, at the ending of that scene we got Bilbo taking an oath sort of, standing surety for dwarves before the people of Laketown. IMO its important scene becouse it showing from where the basics and the cultural background of this book come from - its norse mythology and early medieval (post-Roman, Germanic) tribal law. Standing surety was a legal institution in this law of Germanic peoples (those who conquered ancient Rome), The person who would do it was called the guarantor. His obligation was to take oath for the sake of ensurance that the other person wont do any bad thing, or that the other person did not behave criminal way. And it was obligation of the guarantor that the other person wont do anything criminal from that point on. The weak point of this legal institution (customary law or tribal law - long before the medieval centralised monarchies made their written legal codes) was that the more powerful you've been or more wealthy you could have "hired" (not realy for money but you could have your warriors, servants, tenants, allies) actualy more guarantors, according to the law you were eligible to have up to 72 guarantors standing in legal court for you, and becouse of it those who were poorer than you and got fewer guarantors were on worser legal position than you :) The guarantors were not witnesses as in today legal process. The witnesses have to tell us what actualy could have happened, but guarantors were not obliged to knew what realy happened (about a crime) but only to say that they as respected citizens/warriors/tribesmen/chiefs/clergymen/whoever of a better standing, say that their friend is an honorable person and so he could not do a criminal deed. They did not need to actualy knew anything about the circumstances of the crime. It was all based on their own honor, becouse all society knew that its their honor what would be tarnished if their friend is exposed as real culprit of some illigal deed. They risk their own honor, reputation, and this was enough to believe them. And this is what Bilbo does in this Ext scene, he is not of dwarvish descend so his word in Thorin's case is more objective, but at the same time Bilbo's guaranting of proper behaviour of Thorin's company means that Bilbo risks his own honor/reputation between the people of Laketown. Its one of those scenes when he risks his own honor to help Thorin.
I feel so mixed on these movies; so good and so bad in some places too. Every scene with bilbo is the best scene. Im about to just edit the parts not in the book away lol.
Bad are the places PJ couldn’t fully fix thanks to fricken Deltoro bringing it into a nosedive and running away in the middle to do other things. It’s why PJ was called in and he’s the only reason Cate Blanchett’ was in it and Hugo Weaving was involved. Same with Ian McKellen and the WETA team.
I think I was pleasantly surprised that it still gave me the LOTR vibes. In retrospect, I'd give it more like a 9/10 in comparison to the other movies, but that's still pretty high.
While not as good as the LOTR movies (really, what is?), these movies are quite enjoyable. Any time spent in Middle Earth is time well spent, as far as I'm concerned. All the quest was missing was a beautiful lady in a ball cap. So now we're good to go!
I'm glad you agree with me. So many people made it seem like The Hobbit was going to be sub par. But these are actually some really good movies too. I'm pleasantly surprised. BTW, I'm not used to compliments 🫣 Thanks Steave ;)
