    A couple of things:
    - The most imported flight control of them all is Full stop (Backspace)
    - Throttle control is also bound to the mouse wheel
    - Aim assist lets your guns behave like the gumball weapons in Elite, allowing you to use the full range of movement of your mouse for maneuvering
    - deployables and ammo can be bought and sold in the ship outfitter. Save your load out template for easy restocking
    - Hire-ring crew by talking to them on stations is cheaper then hire-ring trough the ship outfitter
    - get a captain for your starter ship asap. Then you can stand behind him in the cockpit and let him drive
    - You cant collide with asteroids right now. AI controlled ships also don`t get collision damage from stations. Its been disabled because of the AI
    - shift-A is the auto pilot. But it cant dock, fight or use cruise mode on its own. Using an AI pilot is a much better option
    - from i have found so far Telladi have the best shields, Paranids the best engines, I haven`t really looked at weapons to closely yet

    For people having problems claiming abandoned ships larger than a fighter: 1. Have a crew member on your ship set to marine. 2. Get as close to the ship you want to claim as possible, usually nudge the ships broadside. 3. Target ship and open the context menu for it and select Claim. 4. ?????????? 5. Profit! You should now have a new ship. Note when claiming a ship this way the shield and weapon modules get destroyed, so you must refit it.

    Edit: What was the purpose of purchase the Trading Computer Extension Mk1?

    • @grayduster
      @grayduster  5 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      The trading computer extension keeps the buy/sell information live for a while after passing by, to see prices. If you're stuck on an upgrade (I don't show this in the episode, sorry!), right click on it, and click on Encyclopedia - it has more help in there for each upgrade. In previous games it would read them to you, every, single, time you hovered over them. I prefer this version :D

    I was watching captain shack's stream on this and the biggest issue I have right now is that the ships seem samey. I realize this is just a cosmetic thing, but I think the older games had better ship design. These are all very cubic (not hard lines but they are designed to fit in a cube) I know the freighters are longer, but the capital ships just feel like bigger fighters.

    • @grayduster
      @grayduster  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The Mercury freighter is certainly longer - it's not cubic as such. I haven't looked at the rest yet - the starting ships can certainly fit in a cube :)

      @AliasNotInUse 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@EnhancedCognition They said somewhere that adding ships via mods is likely to not happen any time soon because of how integrated are their ship designs with their in house toolchain and how hard it would be for them offer some of that toolchain to moders. Thank you for this video, got more useful information out of it then the ingame tutorials. They were rather confusing...or should i say, not really working properly. • @grayduster
      @grayduster  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yeah, the in-game tutorials move at a set pace, and if you don't keep up, or go too fast... they break. You can restart them, but they're a little frustrating!

    • @Jorendo

      @@grayduster I was doing the tutorial about the scanners. Told me to use the long range scanner, did exactly that, then i said i was suppose to see something blinking on my radar and follow it. Never saw anything on the rader, and the tutorial didn't move on. So i restarted the tutorial, same part, again saying i should see something on my radar. Again i didn't see anything but this time i appearantly looked at the right direction cause the tutorial moved on, saying i could craft things...then, nothing. Didn't move on.
      How is that helping me as a relatively new player who only dipped his toes in X3 before.
      After watching this video i understand much more about the long range radar and now I'm just doing a few missions and learn allong the way. Seems to go better then following the tutorials so far.

      I guess you already found out that you must check around your ship for the purple circles with there own high pitch sound. They are only visible inside your ship and not appearing on your map. And they will be only visible a little while. Just keep on pinging with your long range scanner. When im following those circles and they seem far away, i just ping them and change to superdrive with shift-1 and when the circles dissapear i change back to the long range scanner (shift-2) and ping again and turn back to superdrive till i reach the destination. Just a tip for you or the ones reading all the comments like i do. There is so much usefull stuff in all the comments!!!

Thanks for this series, btw, am I the only one who enjoyed docking? • @qqq4200
    @qqq4200 5 ปีที่แล้ว

    a thing i picked up was if you go to dock while in 3rd person (F2) then your ship autodocks instead of you having to finetune the landing so all you have to do is fly close to the landing spot and your ship will land

    • @grayduster
      @grayduster  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      That's actually quite nice - I'll still buy the docking computer as it's cheap, but that, combined with making first-aid kits will get you off the ground (no pun intended) with a second ship really quite fast!

    I do have a quick little question. Is there a way to view what class a ship is? I used to be able to view a ship's info and see, ah, this is an m3, or m5, and know whether I could take it or not. If I can't remember the difference between a Xenon N and an M, is there any way to see that on ships flying around, or do I just need to go by visual/memory?

    • @grayduster

      The ships are now split into S, M, L, XL (similar to rebirth). Miners, Frigates, Transports are typically medium, starter ships are small - the construction ships are all XL. (Wharfs have the S and M classes, Shipyards have the L, XL classes). I think the symbols on the map will indicate their class, but I could be wrong, I'll do a little research

    This is my first X series game, coming from elite dangerous and I am having a hard time getting used to the interface, and figuring out what to do. I have rarely found any missions, and when I do, there isn't a clear marker for the objective, so I am having a hard time doing much of anything. I also jumped into a system and saw a couple of ships fighting so I thought I would choose a side and join in, and got blown up very quickly...But overall, I am enjoying the flight mechanics...just need something to do to get started

      Get yourself on the highway near Argon Prime and stay on it - it's a huge ring. Whilst on it, open your mission tabs, and the highway passes near enough stations you can see missions as you go past. I'd recommend the repair or scan missions to start - 130k each, covered in the next episode!

      One of the best aspects of the X series is the high barrier to entry. They are hard to figure out if you are new to the series but if you hang in there, once you get on steady feet you'll feel very rewarded for persisting. Not many games have this level of initial challenge and that's pretty refreshing.

    Thanks for this series. Allows me a look before I buy. I don't spend a lot on games, I don't have a lot of time, I hate to buy one and find it just annoys. This looks fun! But... turns out my hardware doesn't come close.

      Yep - X3 is a good buy for a tenner. Do be aware, it's single threaded, however, meaning that late, late game, performance is slowed down because it can't use more than one of your CPU cores. Shouldn't be an issue for most people :D

    Did my first docking today. Had everything lined up, nice and green. Strafed down bit by bit. Next thing I knew I was bouncing around, flying backwards, and getting half stuck in the dock area. Have the exact same thing happen when taking off. I don't know if there's some wonkiness in how the game reads my joystick or what. But it's very annoying. Wouldn't mind if I was obviously doing something wrong. Then I could correct my mistakes and move on. No way to correct random game behavior.
    Also, it isn't very easy to set up the controls. It doesn't do a good job of reading the different buttons on my VKB Gladiator NXT.

    Landing on moving ships is easy, you dont need advanced docking computers because the larger ships have their own gravity so when you approach them your velocity matches theirs.

    • @grayduster
      @grayduster  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      I was having trouble with the forward/back direction when trying to dock with another ship (with the landing pad on the outside) - the other directions aren't too bad, so the docking computer just lets you dump it on a pad, and it's not that expensive :D

    The low point of both X:Rebirth and this is the loading time (saving also). Loading/saving is extremely drawn out and takes forever. More mods, more in-game items (ships, wares, encounters, etc) means longer and longer load times. In fact, game start/load/save times are increased compared to Rebirth.
    Save games at start are only about 200-300m but the game takes a long time to load a save. By comparison, Cities:Skylines saves load 18Gb of mods and assets in less time. Personally, I don't consider xml to be speed/space efficient. 60-66% of the saved game is just xml tags, with 30-33% being the actual save data.
    NVME SSD with 32Gb of RAM jelly makes no difference...snail-y slowness to start/continue.
    It is fantastic that there are a few mods which add new areas/sectors but to add them brings the aforementioned start/save delay.

    In one of your videos you show using a spacesuit to repair the hull of a station. I found one of those sprking places and went out of my ship and made the repair. When I was done I could hear what sounded like a human male broadcasting that he needed help. if antone could hear him. I coudn't figure out how to communicate to him.. You have any experiance with this? Thanks

    • @gjvb1966
      @gjvb1966 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      You can communicate by finding the right spot. Turn on your spacescanner on with Shift-2 (like on your ship. The spacesuit has also a spacescanner that can be turned on) That way you can find the right spot easier. It will look like sparks flickering or a glowing globe. Get closer to it. If you not see it just get closer to the sound of the noise. The biggest problem is to actually find that spot. Takes me sometimes a hell of a time to find it. Just get close enough and it will automaticly make contact and a screen will probably pop-up where to click F to start the conversation. Good luck with it. And this explorating thing is was i really like in this game. Never know what to expect when exploring a station or datavault or whatever :)

    • @gjvb1966
      @gjvb1966 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Btw.. with your spacesuit you are able to repair also your own ship if your ship is damaged. Better then to travel around for that spacestation where you can repair. And saves also a lot of money!!! Just use the wrench on our ships hull.

I love the tutorial bit where you go into details that the tutorial in game really doesn't hit on much like the quest markers I've been trying to figure out how to grow faction and get a new ship or gain money with no success at this time I was thinking on returning it but now I've found some tutorials coming up I think i'm going to give it a shot and see if the game can replace the garbage online games that had the features I wanted with a lot I hate. i'm hoping it turns out to be all it says it is if so than it will be one of the best space games I've found to date.

      You'll gain faction reputation even by trading/automining from that station, so feel free to move your autominers (or traders) to the faction station you want before starting them up. You'll see it more in episode 3, but they get me to level 10 reputation with Argon pretty easily - that gets you the military license and a better ship :D
