Dang! Heikki Mikkola and Broc Glover sitting next to each other at the same table. Two of the fastest humans in history. To an American kid growing up in the 70's, Heikki Mikkola was like a mythical superhuman who lived in a different dimension; sort of like Thor or something. And in this video he was 71 years old; seems pretty spry for an old man. Thanks for the video.

I rode and raced a lot from 1974 to 1979. The bikes went through radical changes in that time period. DeCoster was amazing to watch.

Mikkola was SUCH a Giant in the History of Motocross. He is a timeless Iconic figure in the Greatest age of Motocross. He accomplished what only a hand full of riders in a year could, thus these Europeans that brought the Sport to the US appeared as a Superhuman figures. This Period that held names like Mikkola, DeCoster, Kring, Aberg, Lackey, Jonsson, and going back just a little further Robert, Friedricks, Hallman, it was so much more demanding of a rider to find speed and consistency on those tracks with those bikes. Watch riders from that period and you will be so much more impressed of what Man and Machine was capable of. These Champions are simply Greater. And Motocross will never be as Great as it was in this period.

One of a very small handful of guys who ever got the drop on Roger D. In the 1975 season, Heikki Mikkola wfo'd the demanding 360 GP Husky like it was a 125, and won a well-deserved championship against the grand master of 70's motocross.

Mikkola's GP Husky wasn't that much different that what you could buy off the showroom floor proving what great skill he had as a racer.

@@FlashCadallic Mid 70's stock Husqvarnas were real beasts and demanding bikes to ride, but were entirely competitive with anything out of Japan at that stage, with exception of the Husky 125, which was not the outfit's best performer.
Husqvarna had first adopted a simple moved-forward rear shock set-up (74-75) and then moved to a laydown arrangement with Girling gas shocks in the following model, which Mikkola used in his Open Championship year.
I recall that the Girling gas shocks were a much better quality item than previous products from that outfit, which wore out very quickly on motocross and enduro bikes.

Not a good interview, sounds like a Yamaha commercial. Yamaha (as did Honda and perhaps other Japanese bikes at the time) used cheap steel sand castings for shifting drum (you can see the sand impression on them), Husqvarna's shifting drum and transmission gears where machined out of billet chrome vanadium Swedish steel (best steel in the world), very strong and high quality. They couldn't have been that bad, he won on them as did many others, especially in the desert races and enduros. With the big bucks you can buy off anybody.

Nah , the Yamaha of the day way a better bike than the Husky and Maico's of the day. Especially if you had a factory scoot. Also Sheffield steel is the best in the world .
