As an old 70's NorCal CMC/AMA motocrosser, loved this video. I wish todays motocross guys rode two-strokes and rode on the old school tracks for the full 40+2. Steve Evans was a great and knowledgeable announcer.
Back in the day where I used to race in New England, our 80cc hotshot was Tony Lorusso. That kid won everything except when New York's #1 kid would show up. His name was Scott Sheak. These two would walk away from the pack by the second lap then put on a show for anyone present. Great times.
I started racing seriously in 1989 and Carlsbad was my local track. I moved from Tulsa to San Diego in 1988 for work and to be able to race and ride all the time. I miss Carlsbad. It was a brutal test.
Voice of racing....STEVE EVANS.........he could keep you glued to the screen....just like he did...in this race. Steve Evans passed away in his sleep.......... (January 13, 1942 - November 1, 2000) was an American motorsports broadcaster with a career that spanned four decades.
To find this video brings back memories. As I raced against Buddy Antunez, Butch Switch, Joel and Jeremy Albrecht and tommy Clowers growing up in the 80'cc class when i was younger back then in the Golden State nationals. . I was there as an a 80cc intermediate at the time as I was younger than them. They were talented riders for sure. Wished my 80 expert FOX Factory buddys were there. Jimmy Clay, Todd Hicks or Chris Neil where there. Relived my Al Bundy moment watching this video. And to see ricky Johnson, Jeff Ward, Ricky Kehoe, Ron Lechien and one other pro name from the past is great relapse from the past. We raced from San Jose Wednesday then moved our way down south 4 days a week. We ended up in Carlsbad on Sunday for Golden State Nationals. Nice to hear some familiar names from the past.
Very cool watching the 80cc riders. I lived in Carlsbad while working in the Surf industry, it was after the track had closed and I had no idea it even existed. Now that I have two young sons racing Motocross up here in Canada 🇨🇦 that track looks so intense. A true test for sure as some have mentioned.
Jeff Leisk is an Aussie legend ! He was the youngest 500cc Australian champ ever. He went to the States and did the best that an Aussie had ever done until Chad Reed.. As a 11 yo addicted to MX , he was like a God to me !
Team Kawasaki Ron lechine Team Yamahas micky diamond Team Kawasaki jeff ward. . Team Honda rick Johnson. Team Yamahas brock blubber LOL ha. . Good racing. Love these old events. Good memories good times. Wish they would put these on DVD.
@@heathermajcherek8439 Thanks so much for your upload ! I lost so many of my VHS MX tapes because l lent them to so called friends, then never got them back ! 😥
Those weren't the riders national numbers those letter and numbers were only used for the Golden State Nationals in California, it was a preseason series before the Supercross and National Motocross seasons .
Democrats in California effectively banned 2 strokes. Now they want to do same with internal combustion engines and force you to drive an unreliable dangerous EV that costs 30k for a replacement battery that lasts only 60k.

Ask Broc a question and be prepared to to be there awhile.
Is Joel Jeremy’s brother?
Yes
16 year olds have always raced 80s lol
If only we had announcers like this now, RC is terrible
Grip was falling off 🤦🏻Then brag about Brian Lunis the mechanic.
