Have you heard of My Favorite Murder? It's a true crime podcast where these two women talk about murders from all over the world. People write in their hometown murders and they read them and discuss them. One of them is a comedian and it's really funny. You should give it a try! They often don't go into the really gory stuff if you don't like hearing that. Also hello fellow murderinos!

One of my favs is Witch, Please! It's two feminist literary scholars who analyze the Harry Potter books and movies. It's like Call Your Girlfriend meets Harry Potter, but with 100% more Canadians and whimsy.

Thanks for your recommendations Sanne I'll have to give some a go. I'm a big fan of The Receipts Podcast. It's by 5 women of colour who are Londoners and they talk about relationships with friends, family partners as well as themselves. I really relate to what they have to say and absolutely love it. Really enjoyed this video, much love 😊 xx

I love Magic Lessons by Liz Gilbert! It's a follow up top her book Big Magic; each week she takes a reader submissions about dealing with problems of creativity and tries to tease out the problem, and then the next week she discusses the issue with a friend or professional writer/artist/creative and tries to give advice to the previous reader! She has such a lovely voice to listen to and it always leaves me feeling creatively inspired and motivated afterwards :)

  • @abi_rose
    @abi_rose 7 ปีที่แล้ว

The latest podcast I've been binging is Spontaneanation. It's a podcast where Paul F Tompkins (comedian and actor, does a voice on Bojack Horseman) has a conversation with a guest using a blind question left by the previous episode's guest. Then in the second half, he and some improv comedians improvise a scene based around elements that were brought up in the conversation, set in a location suggested by that week's guest.
You can jump into any episode and are guaranteed a good laugh. One of my favourite episodes that I have listened to so far is "Ep #13 - A Dental Convention in Scottsdale, Arizona"

I am a huge slut for podcasts. I listen to so so many, and yeah I think it might be why I'm reading less at the minute too, it's just so easy to cook dinner, do the washing up, have a bath, all while listening to podcasts and while I couldn't necessarily be reading. Plus I walk about 6km a day minimum so it's good for that. Some of my favourites:
Science Vs - debates with the facts about things from the paleo diet to race
The Guardians Token - race and feminism etc.
Code Switch - Race, current events
More or Less - explains the numbers used in the news, behind the stats
Alan Davies as yet untitled - funny people talking about stuff
Dan Carlin's Hardcore History - in depth interesting history
    The Broad Experience - Feminism
The Read - Pop culture, race
Gilmore Guys - a Gilmore Girls fancast
Adventures in Roommating - Meghan Tonjes and Keith Batista
Welcome to our Poscast - Mike Falzone and Zoja
Myths and Legends - fun retellings of folklore
Black Girls Talking - race, feminism, pop culture.
As well as Banging book club and Call Your Girlfriend.

So many awesome new podcasts, thank you, everyone, especially Sanne! I highly recommend "Science Vs" - science journalist pits fad against scientific fact to see who comes out on top. Example topics - sugar free diet, does race exist?, is there a difference between female and male brains? does porn destroy our minds and sex lives? is marijuana a miracle drug? etc. It's super interesting, and wonderfully presented. Go listen!

I listen to 'Make It Then Tell Everybody' which is interviews/chats with comic artists, you could try it listening to the Kate Beaton one as you like her work. Witch, Please is the greatest podcast ever. I also enjoy Gilmore Guys and Modern Love SO much as well. I also have my own podcast that is about poorly scored Rotten Tomatoes movies that actually (on a personal note) have merit. For example, A Cinderella Story has an 11%?!?!?! That movie is SO GOOD!!! Anyway, if that's something that interests you, check out "You Say Tomato"

(Oh Boy, I'm literally filming a podcast rec video tomorrow... This is awkward?) My newest fave podcast is The Bright Sessions! It's a fictional podcast following sessions of a psychiatrist, who only treats people with "special abilities". Very X-Men-y with a very diverse cast (one of the characters is asexual and I just! Love the representation!!) and althought it is scifi, it tackles psychological stuff in a very professional way! Highly recommended!!

*Happy Sad Confused* : If you like conversations with movie celebs (mostly actors and directors).
*GameOverGreggy Show* : They (four, sometimes five) talk about different types of topics. Sometimes they'll have guests on. P.S. The Aisha Tyler episode is probably my favourite one.
The *Nerdist Podcast* is also decent, but I only listen to my favourite celebs' episodes so I can't really say if all of them are decent. Nerdist has a few decent podcasts if you want to discover new ones, with a lot of them very different from each other.
Anna Faris' podcast is also alright. It's not in my top list because I've only listened to a few.
I wanted to do a top 5 but I realised that most of them are average and not very recommendable. 😔

Sawbones is totally my favourite! I guess I might add Stuff You Missed In History Class, which is two women, well, talking about what it says on the tin. They're really funny and go into interesting detail about big and small stories. They also make a bit of a concerted effort to reflect women in history, which I definitely appreciate. Judge John Hodgman is my "perfect commute to work" length podcast and I find myself talking about the cases with friends. Love your work! Thanks for the video.

One of my fave podcast is Smart podcast Trashy books (originally Smart bitches trashy books) where bunch of women - from those who work for smart podcast trashy books or writers sit down and talk abou books and life and stuff. Its amazing. And I dont even read romantic literature but I enjoy this podcast A LOT. They do reviews on various things not just books but also tv shows movies etc. I personally LOVED their take on Poldark. I also listen to Anna Faris Unqualified and Two dope queens. Both of these podcasts cost me some weird look in public transportation bc I always end up laughing my ass off and cry. I love love LOVE LORE which is for every horror fan a MUST when it comes to podcasts. Elizabeth from booksandpieces started a podcast about books (with bunch of other women) and it is GLORIOUS. I really enjoyed Within the wires, made by the folks behind Welcome to night vale - creepy and interesting - as was Alice isnt dead. That will give you chills. Sometimes when I have time and I am in the rght mood I like listening to Gilmore guys, a podcast with two dudes reviewing Gilmore girls. I think there is more but the rest of the podcast are more medical related (i am a ID doc) like ERcast or Puscast or QuackCast etc :D

  • @hopelesslynerdy

One of my favorite podcasts is Pop Culture Happy Hour, it's a good digestion of what is going on in pop culture and like you said about The Banging Book Club, I find myself listening to their segments even if I haven't yet seen the movie/tv show/etc they are talking about. The three main hosts are all friends in real life, and have a good rapport with each other. Each episode features a different "fourth-chair", but they're always friends of the hosts and blend in really well. Somehow it turns out to be a really funny podcast as they go off onto tangents, and I love it!

I only really got into Podcasts last year but now I'm hooked so always on the look out for more. I love Emma Gannon's Ctrl Alt Delete where she interviews a different guest every week mainly about creativity & how the internet and their careers intertwine. I also love the Pandolly Podcast which is a really funny discussion between two super cool ladies about the news of the week AND I've just started listening to Witch, Please after hearing about it for months. It's about Harry Potter and it's brilliant (but I'm sure you knew that already)

I love podcasts, so thanks for the recommendations! Sawbones sound very cool. Some of my favorites are: "My Dad Wrote a Porno" (obiviously), "Death, Sex and Money" for great conversations about things that are taboo or difficult to talk about, and lastly "My Favorite Murder" for anyone who likes true crime. It's two friends, who are also comedians, who basically just retell true crime stories to each other. Dark and strangely comforting at the same time.

aah i love podcasts and i'm always looking for more so i'm gonna check some of these out! a couple of my favourites that you didn't mention are Hello From the Magic Tavern which is a comedy improv podcast set in a magical land called Foon (lol). it's extremely silly but so well done. i also like #Millennial, which is actually hosted by some past (and one present) Mugglecast peeps. they talk a lot about American politics, world news and entertainment. definitely nsfw but, again, hilarious.

My favorites are: Pod Saves America (political), More Perfect (supreme court), 99 Percent Invisible (design), Radiolab (science), Reply All (internet), Welcome to Night Vale (fictional and creepy community radio), Alice Isn't Dead (fiction mystery) and Serial (crime?). I absolutely love hello internet and dear hank and John!! I will definitely be checking out Call Your Girlfriend and Sawbones

I too love Dear Hank and John.
I think you'd like Spirits: A Drunken Dive into Myths and Legends by Amanda McLoughlin (sheissomickey), whom I believe you know, with her friend Julia.
I also really like Lena Dunham's Women of the Hour. She has female guests both famous and unknown who talk about a topic for each episode, like friendship, love, sex, work, faith, trauma etc. There are some kick-ass women and the podcast really makes you think. Season 2 (which I haven't heard yet) started 2 months ago and has more episodes than season 1.
Also, if you haven't heard any of Rhett & Link's Ear Biscuits yet, I highly recommend it. It's deep biographical interviews with big TH-camrs including vlogbrothers.

    I know most of these!!!
My personal fav: 'Kevin and Ursula eat cheap' aka KUEC in the podcast-store. Ursula Vernon and her husband Kevin Sonney review cheap foods and beverages (and get progressively more drink throughout each episode) as the title implies. More about the hilarity that ensues than the food, but I love it. Massive backlog if you love it, since they've done it for almost 7 years now. Also by this creator-couple; 'The Hidden Almanac' a fiction podcast 3 times a week, for about 4 minuten long
'The History of Rome', self-explanatory title , finished, but long! Almost 200 eps.

For learning things, I really enjoy TED Radio Hour, Song Exploder, and Anna Akana's Explain Things To Me! As for more conversational podcasts, I like listening to Nerdist podcast and Coffee with Chrachel (which is my ultimate fave). ☕️

I have quite the list of podcasts I listen to. Many I had already been listening to on the radio when they are on NPR but some I got off a list from a blog post on ted.com that was like titled "40 podcasts to listen to during your commute". So I have old favorites I listen to regularly, some I fell in love with last year, some I downloaded last year but never listened to so going to try this year, and of course I found new ones to try out from Esquire Magazine's top 10 podcasts of 2016. Anyway this is my list of the top podcasts I just love...
1.This American Life - hosted by Ira Glass each episode is an hour long and has 2-4 stories that relate to a topic.
    2. the Story Collider- collection of stories that relate to science these are usually only 20min long
    3. Slate's Culture Gabfest - 3 hosts talk about movies, music, books, museums, etc.
    4. Gastropod- all about food and the history of food
    5. Wait, Wait...Don't Tell Me - NPR's weekly news quiz show, where people are quizzed on that week's news. (Warning you will laugh)
    6. Freakonomics- its hosted by the authors of the book by the same name. They discuss a variety of topics from an economics point of view such as the economics of going to college or marriage etc.

So excited to find a fellow HI listener! I listen to podcasts whilst I run and when I'm doing routine work. Some of my favourites so far are Stack Magazines, Design Matters with Debbie Millman, Charlotte Green's Culture Club, The Simple Show and Explain Things To Me. :)

Great video. I don't have a long commute, so I walk and cannot read books, thus I am an avid podcast listener. My top five are This American Life (usually three stories/interviews/reports on one topic, concerning contemporary US lifestyle/politics/society with an unexpected twist each time. Also the voice of the moderator - so good); Death, Sex & Money (wonderful interviews with celebrities and common people about the aforementioned topics with a very engaged listenership who will send in clips telling her about their experiences); Women of the Hour by Lena Dunham ( feminist and human rights issues. Loved especially the second season); Freakonomics (not as scientific as you might think! As an economist of course I am drawn to the easy "how is this theory important in real life" attitutde of it); and of course Serial (investigative journalism and justice issues). Have fun discovering new things in the new year!

My favorite podcasts are: Imaginary Worlds (about fictional worlds); Nocturne (about the night and what people do and experience at night); the Myths and Legends podcast (about myths and legends); the Adventure Zone (a dungeons and dragons podcast, really funny even if you don't know/play the game, like me); Man met de Microfoon (Dutch podcast about real and almost real stories from a neighbourhood in Amsterdam. Really well made). And The Message and more recently Life After are really really good

I assume from Sawbones you already know about the other McElroy/Max Fun podcasts, but of all of them "Interrobang" is my favourite. Also "Alice isn't Dead" is a great surreal mystery story you might like. "99% invisible" showcases fascinating design stories, "The Allusionist" for word lovers, and "Reply All" for all sorts of internet based stories and reports.

If you haven't already, I would REALLY recommend you listen to The Allusionist - a podcast about language, words, etymology and all kinds of other interesting linguistic things. The episodes are pretty short, but really brilliant! X

I recommend Invisibilia, Sword and Scale, Radiolab, Strong Opinions Loosely Held, and Note to Self. Lately Strong Opinions Loosely Held is the one I find myself constantly checking for new episodes its about todays culture and technology! Let me know if you give them listen💗

I know it's like going back to the beginning, but you NEED to listen to Alohomora!. It's a really in-depth discussion of the HP books chapter by chapter. Would describe it by saying that when you thought you knew everything about the series, they discover something knew and totally blow your mind off.

My favorite bookish podcasts are Get Booked (you send in a request and they recommend you books) are Dear Book Nerd (it ended a few months ago, but it's about answering listeners' questions). I also listen to The Jillian Michaels Show and Eat Your Kimchi.

I really recommend Baby Geniuses. Its by Lisa Hanawalt (production designer and producer for Bojack Horseman) and Emily Heller and it's hilarious. I have no idea how to categorize it but it's soo entertaining.

Sanne, you should watch Norwegian TV series SKAM; you'll be able to find links with subtitles on Tumblr, I think you'll really like it. And they use the song Call Your Girlfriend (that's why it came to my mind haha)

    Sawbones!
Court Appointed by Sydnee from Sawbones' dad is also pretty good and similar but with Law. As is Still Buffering from the Smirl sisters (about growing up/being a teen with perspectives from a few different generations)

I strongly recommend listening to 'chat 10, looks 3' - two senior female Australian journalists discuss what they've been reading, watching and cooking. For two women who discuss politics all day they manage to fit in a lot of reading and amazing recommendations and it's hilarious and wonderful!

Recommendations: myth podcast- unsurprisingly myths and legends, guilty feminist- comedy feminist guilts, ctrl alt del- chats with ladies online, things of interest- 2 millenials chat about things that interest them.
