The problem with western countries is falling into French marketing. The countries survived on yogurt for centuries never had the French marketing yogurt which is a dessert filled with gelatine , artificial things, shelf life additives, milk powder, crème not yogurt. Yogurt is just milk and inoculation with bacteria. The reason people fermented milk or vegetables, meat to keep it long time before refrigerators. The dessert that is sold as yogurt is not healthy. Sadly, countries didn't survive on yogurt do not do this and didn't developed the taste for yogurt. Yogurt is sour, not sweet. Real yogurt is sold as Natural Yogurt or as Greek yogurt in some countries. Yogurt is natural anyway, doesn't need the natural or Greek addition.
Spot on! All the fruit yoghurts are sugar bombs. They take out much of the fat which give the yoghurt the natural taste and they put in all the possible man-made sugars that our body can't handle well. To Quote Paul Simon again, man hears what he wants to hear and disregards the rest. If you want to make a case for being a meat eater, there’s plenty of data and that’s what I see, if you want to make a case for being a vegan, there’s plenty of data, if that’s what your belief is, you can find data.
Data is only one part of the formula. The other is methodology. You can't meaningfully interpret data without also looking at methodology. The common denominator in all of these fields where conflicting and irreproducible results arise is the inclusion of statistics in the methodology. This isn't to say that statistics isn't a powerful tool. It's to say that it's an extraordinarily difficult tool to wield correctly, so much so that even a majority of scientists mishandle it on a regular basis.
Shortest Dr. GUNDRY video I've ever seen !😂 Also quickly got to the point and was very informative! After a recommendation from a relative, I just started
### Key Takeaways from Dr. Steven Gundry's Discussion on Longevity and Diet: 1. **Blue Zones Misconceptions**: The popular interpretation of Blue Zones may be skewed towards promoting a vegan/vegetarian lifestyle, which doesn't fully align with the traditional diets of these regions, such as the Okinawans' consumption of sweet potatoes instead of grains and beans. 2. **Importance of Polyphenols**: In regions like Sardinia, the consumption of foods high in polyphenols, such as Cannonau wine and olive oil from high-altitude areas, is linked to longevity. Polyphenols offer protective benefits to plants and humans, contributing to health and longevity. 3. **Dietary Habits in Longevity Hotspots**: Long-living populations often consume diets rich in specific foods like dairy products from goats and sheep, anchovies, olive oil, and wine. These diets are low in carbohydrates and do not heavily rely on grains, beans, bread, or pasta. 4. **Health Benefits of Certain Lifestyles**: Despite the known risks of smoking, it's interestingly noted that in some Blue Zones, smoking has been linked to a lower incidence of neurological diseases, suggesting a complex interplay between lifestyle factors and health. 5. **No Direct Link Between Healthcare and Longevity**: High life expectancy in certain countries, such as Monaco, does not necessarily correlate with superior healthcare systems but may be influenced by diet, lifestyle, and environmental factors. 6. **Sunlight and Vitamin D**: Exposure to sunlight and adequate vitamin D levels are highlighted as potential key factors in longevity, especially in regions with high sunlight exposure. 7. **Olive Oil and Perilla Oil**: The health benefits of olive oil, particularly those high in polyphenols, are emphasized, along with the potential of perilla oil as a rich source of alpha-linolenic acid (ALA), beneficial for heart health and preventing inflammation. 8. **Diverse Diets and Longevity**: The discussion challenges the notion that a single diet or food group is the key to longevity, highlighting the diverse dietary patterns of long-living populations and the importance of a balanced approach to nutrition. 9. **Dr. Gundry's Resources**: For more insights into Dr. Gundry's research and recommendations on diet and longevity, his books, online platforms, and multimedia content are available for further exploration.
If i remember correctly based on the documentary on blue zones, Okinawans do eat soybeans, and Sardinians do eat bread and pasta. "According to Mr. Buettner, an expert on longevity and LBZs, the foods consumed by LBZs consist of beans, greens, and whole grains. He summarized them as “peasant foods”" From "Sardinian dietary analysis for longevity: a review of the literature"
They are sheep and goat herders but don’t eat the meat? Diet with 35% carbohydrates? Where is the other 65%? Could it be the Sheep and Goat meat? Where do they get protein?
Also interesting to note that pure tobacco is very different from the processed market product called cigarettes, in which a whole lot of cancer causing agents are added. I don't know that there are studies looking at the difference between commercial cigarettes and pure tobacco in their consumers. I just want to be intellectually honest. I dont smoke, and will not start.
@@HvdHaghen I don't know. But tobacco may be physically bad, but cigarrette producers add chemicals that are even worse. That's why cigarrettes are worse than tobacco. Also blue zone narrative is outdated, since it uses about 100 year old observations, before all the world got hooked on processed food.
He is a well-known medical doctor, heart surgeon, author, and researcher. That's a fact. Speaking about insanity. Who in their sane mind would unfoundedly refer to such a person as "nuts"? A purely rhetorical question, of course.
This man is not to be believed, anyone who knows anything about goat and sheep herders knows they also eat lots of grass fed meat from their animals. Also if you live their active lives, most of the time up in the fresh mountain air smoking is not so problematic. Also what do they smoke, my husbands father smoked a pipe and is now over 90years old.
according to Dr.Gundry I believe his conclusion is that the nicotinic acid specifically is a powerful mitochondrial uncoupler. There is also some who claim that nicotine is beneficial to fight against age related cognitive decline and diseases like parkinsons and alzheimers.
Nicotinic Acid is vitamin B3, promotes NAD+, the nicotine also stops the uptake of pathogens in the lungs, which is why studies show the majority of people hospitalized due to the pandemic were obese non-smokers. NAD+ crosses the blood/brain barrier. Most of the processed food garbage like bread is fortified with nicotinic acid - they used to call it tobacco bread.
Best oil is neither olive oil nor this pe-something oil. It's sea buckthorn oil. There are also bunch of other very cool oils like mustard seed oil, hempseed oil, evening primrose oil, milk thistle oil, flaxseed oil. Obviously algal oils if you look for omega 3 rich oils outside cod liver oil (which can cause retinol toxicity if you overconsume).
George Burns, Milton Burl smoked over a dozen cigars per day. Burns died at a hundred and Burl lived to 94. The healthiest guy, Jack Lalane lived to 96.
Correlation doesn't mean causation. Number one rule to differentiate science from pseudoscience. plus meta analysis, competent long term lab tests, peer reviews, those aren't abundant enough where it comes to food. There are too many factors besides diet to take into account (genetics, life style-culture, stress, etc). Claiming to have the answer to this type of question is nuts, as you can probably tell by the smoking statement...
All these longevity gurus contradict each other at every turn. At this point, i still like to listen to Dr. Mike Israetel, Dr. Layne Norton a bit(mostly cause they cut through the bullshit), and follow NO diets

Grapes are full of good things. Everything can be eaten in moderation. Each different food has different properties. I don't follow fads that restrict whole food groups or even single plants. I eat dairy, fish and meat including some red meat. I like Dr Tim Spector's guidance to eat 30 different plant foods a week. When you try to vary your diet that much, and include so much good stuff, there's not much room left for cookies and ultra processed food. I haven't eaten any processed snacks for ages, not because of will power (I haven't any!) but because I'm not hungry and I have no cravings for those things anymore, and I ate loads of them before.

Yet I still am surprised that Loma Linda area SDAs wouldn't be primarily vegan, especially since in general Californians tend toward a higher rate of veganism and SDAs even moreso. Many SDAs follow the original diet, the Biblical first diet of herbs, seeds, fruits, vegetables.
There's so much more I want to know. How much goat/sheep cheese per day? With every meal? What else do they eat? I bought some peccorino romano and manchengo, and some aged sausages after hearing Gundry talk about this. The cheeses are great but very strong. Would go great with some sourdough bread, olive oil and red wine.

Why can’t we get the “magic” margarin used in the Lyon Heart study? If it was so beneficial, where can we get it? I suspect it had dangerous side effects with prolonged use. Doc, Thomas do your research and get us the whole story. I sure could use it!
also, on a side note, i believe the thing that cause heart disease isnt the fault of cholesterol, its bodily inflammation, veinous inflammation specifically. Reason is, when your veins are infflimated its as if they have a million microcuts lining the surface of them, your body realizes this and tries to plug the cuts so that they dont leak out into your body. Its the same thing when you get cut, you develop a scab to stop it from bleeding out. Whenever your body starts to scab up your inflammated veins, it sends in cholesterol to try and prevent it from leaking, and you if you dont stop the inflammation it wont stop accumulating. (guess what cause inflammation? processed seed oils) Blaming cholesterol is like blaming the fire fighters for lighting a house on fire when they're trying to save it.

Garmin has this band you wear around you cheast and apparently gives tge most accurate heart rate readings. So confused and not sure for which one I should pull tge trigger
I have agreat Aunt in her 90s who still works full time, every day and smokes 4 cigarettes a day. She's back home in Newfoundland and she's only eaten our regular diet there all her life.
4 cigarettes a day is similar amount of pollution into your lungs as living in a decent sized city. Probably near harmless, most people who smoke smoke about 20 or more a day. I smoke personally somewhere between 5 and 10 grams of tobacco a day so maybe double the 4 cigarette amount. Probably it's not good for me however it doesn't give me issues like I was getting many years ago when I smoked about a pack a day of ready made cigarettes.
Longevity is not exportable. If you want the longevity associated with a particular place, you have to go live there. The entire discussion around exporting longevity is fkn useless.
But the Melis family of Sardinia is the longest living family in the Guiness book of world records and they ate 3 bean minestrone with pasta every day of their lives?🤔

Dr Gundry, please dont pound the table when you do these talks with Thomas. I wear ear pods when i listen and the hand pounding is very loud. Good stuff as usual guys.
small amounts of nicotine elevates NAD+ , so, if you can avoid the tar, NAD+ will not drop beneath a certain level... keeping it higher than for some non-smokers. Yet, you first have to survive the cancer, which requires a good mmune system, and such, regarding the claim of long lived smokers, tthere is a survivor bias,...albeit an interesting one
most of the cancer is a result of the chemicals in the industrial process to leech the oils from tobacco and from the additives to the paper to help it burn and the synthetic filters. cancer is almost non existent among pipe and cigar smokers compared to cigarette smokers. the location of where the tobacco is grown also plays a role as it soaks up naturally occurring or artificially polluted environmental heavy metals and radioactive isotopes. remember the USA spent like 20 years doing open air above ground nuclear weapon tests after WW2. most of that fallout is still in the soil as the fallout spread thousands of miles with atmospheric wind current patterns. strontium isotopes from the tests in new mexico are found in indiana. when you smoke you are taking particulates that have those radioactive compounds and exposing them to your lung and mucosal tissue.

I often wonder, with these Blue Zones, if much of the apparent health and longevity benefits is due to being born, raised, and living in these traditional areas. Eat the same diet, live the same lifestyle, live by the same beliefs and values, all their lives. And are largely without stress or anxiety about whether they should be doing anything any differently at all.
would love to see a debate about stuff u disagree on with him or like dr berg or saladino. cuz usually u guys talk and find common interests and agree and its hard to know what u disagree on. like a debate with grundy about why he think grapes are sugarbombs or a debate with saladino on what types of ppl should eat his high carb diet and who needs keto more. type stuff
You should get a simple education first before going into these.

GUNDRY video I've ever seen !😂
Also quickly got to the point and was very informative!
After a recommendation from a relative, I just started
Using his olive oil! OMG it exceeds expectations!!!
Gundry never fails to provide new information for me so I can better tweak my diet. I enjoyed this video.
### Key Takeaways from Dr. Steven Gundry's Discussion on Longevity and Diet:
He summarized them as “peasant foods”"
From "Sardinian dietary analysis for longevity: a review of the literature"
@@VegetaPrinceOfSaiyans Yeah this expert is making up random stories. Why would Okinawans have no access to soy, but eat fermented soy?

They are sheep and goat herders but don’t eat the meat? Diet with 35% carbohydrates? Where is the other 65%? Could it be the Sheep and Goat meat? Where do they get protein?

Well, I guess I’m gonna start smoking and drinking 😂
Also interesting to note that pure tobacco is very different from the processed market product called cigarettes, in which a whole lot of cancer causing agents are added. I don't know that there are studies looking at the difference between commercial cigarettes and pure tobacco in their consumers.
I just want to be intellectually honest. I dont smoke, and will not start.
@@advex4428 Do they smoke home grown tobacco?
@@HvdHaghen I don't know. But tobacco may be physically bad, but cigarrette producers add chemicals that are even worse. That's why cigarrettes are worse than tobacco.
Also blue zone narrative is outdated, since it uses about 100 year old observations, before all the world got hooked on processed food.
This guy is nuts
If you really think that, you are either unintelligent, or nuts yourself.
I wouldn't say so.
Besides, he couldn't be nuts, since slot of them contain lectins
How does smoking promote longevity exactly?
when you smoke the same stuff the doctor did before….you will understand 😂
according to Dr.Gundry I believe his conclusion is that the nicotinic acid specifically is a powerful mitochondrial uncoupler. There is also some who claim that nicotine is beneficial to fight against age related cognitive decline and diseases like parkinsons and alzheimers.
@@bradlybrisson5700 tobacco also has other substances such as heavy metals…
Nicotinic Acid is vitamin B3, promotes NAD+, the nicotine also stops the uptake of pathogens in the lungs, which is why studies show the majority of people hospitalized due to the pandemic were obese non-smokers. NAD+ crosses the blood/brain barrier. Most of the processed food garbage like bread is fortified with nicotinic acid - they used to call it tobacco bread.

There are too many factors besides diet to take into account (genetics, life style-culture, stress, etc). i'm eating grapes watching this
You mean sugar bombs? Rip

I found what he said about Adventists fascinating because, as someone from an Adventist background, 7th Day Adventists do eat tofu/soy as much as TVP. If vegan, as many are, they obviously won't be eating eggs and dairy. It sounds like the Loma Linda hospital serves a lot of eggs and dairy.
Ridiculous line about the US having the best healthcare. Overpriced somehow equals best.
As someone with a multinational family with members in the US, Europe and Asia, all I can say is you get what you pay for. Anyone with the means to do so goes private in all places because if you don't wait times are long and quality of service is sub par. The difference is that in the US, if you do pay you get better care than anywhere else.
US healthcare is best, and cheaper than countries with so-called free healthcare, like Sweden. How can you not know this?
@stark5353 Also, Americans who cannot afford health insurance still receive better medical care than can be found at any price in countries like Sweden.

So much conflicting info with these documentaries etc.. This was fascinating
Fascinating is a word for it...
People in the comments stop complaining. Take some information and experiment. My god. Never seen so many people not listen to the context of what was said. He says even in the video "dont get me wrong please dont smoke" the context is it is the nicotine that contributed. If Americans had it figured out you wouldn't be decreasing in age expectancy. Dont eat sugar or very sparingly, dont eat processed or very sparingly ,walk everyday at least a mile, polyphenols olive oil but it must be an evoo brand, eat super dark chocolate everyday in small amounts, antioxidants in matcha, no stress and most major thing dont watch the news. Do those and live a long life.
Being in the hospital have you seen any black lungs. I am 73 and have quit for twenty years. You have no idea how hard it is to see so many people carrying oxygen. This is totally bull crap
Why can’t we get the “magic” margarin used in the Lyon Heart study? If it was so beneficial, where can we get it? I suspect it had dangerous side effects with prolonged use. Doc, Thomas do your research and get us the whole story. I sure could use it!
Where is this filmed? Love the backdrop
So, can you clarify please: canola oil is good?
Right, I'm like wait... Did I just hear that right?!?!
😮
lol, i love cooking my food in chemical laiden oxidized "fats" it so healthy for my heart
also, on a side note, i believe the thing that cause heart disease isnt the fault of cholesterol, its bodily inflammation, veinous inflammation specifically.
(guess what cause inflammation? processed seed oils)
Blaming cholesterol is like blaming the fire fighters for lighting a house on fire when they're trying to save it.
By the way, eating oreo cookies is good for lowering LDL cholesterol... LOL
What happened to Dr Gundry’s heart study of his long term patients. He originally said in 2021 something bad happened to their prognosis.
Thomas, can you do a review of watches and devices like Whoop and Oura ring and talk about them, are they accurate?are they worth buying? I did some research with Whoop, butvthat membership put me off a bit. Oura ring seems really good and the data it generates seems accurate. There are smart watches as well. Garmin has this band you wear around you cheast and apparently gives tge most accurate heart rate readings. So confused and not sure for which one I should pull tge trigger
How about camellina oil? It contains onega 3 and is heat tolerant.
Probably it's not good for me however it doesn't give me issues like I was getting many years ago when I smoked about a pack a day of ready made cigarettes.

small amounts of nicotine elevates NAD+ , so, if you can avoid the tar, NAD+ will not drop beneath a certain level... keeping it higher than for some non-smokers.
