Had this most of my adult life. I am 57. Two years ago a friend turned me on to Dr. Berg near the beginning of 2020. I weighed 480. I started healthy keto and followed Dr Berg. Here I am 22 months later. The fungus has left and my toenails are clear. I have lost 180 pounds and still going. Eliminated all prescribed medication except for afib med. I dropped six pant sizes and will probably drop another within a month. Dr Berg gave me my life back. Education is key but it must be the proper information. The human body is amazing but we abuse our bodies thru improper nutrition. Thank you Dr. Berg

Doug Bowman by chance did you use either the iodine, tea tree oil or did your nail fungus clear up with carb restriction/modification? I was born in '62, so I am also in my kate 50's and this last couple years my fungus has spread from 1 large toe nail to all other 9 nails. I have just started a Keto/IF lifestyle in the last 2 months, not to lose weight but to be systemically more healthy and am so interested in getting this fungus in check.
Congrats to you by the way!!☺

My go-to remedy for toenail fungus is apple cider vinegar. Apply a few drops directly to the nail with an eyedropper, or put it on a cotton ball and just lay that on the affected nail for a few minutes, 2-3 times a day. I had toenail fungus since childhood, this cleared it up within a few weeks and it hasn't returned in the past 13 years. I'm 56.

    This was my fix:
Every night going to bed, I would pull a latex thumb (Cut from a glove) with a paper tissue drowned in apple cider vinegar, over my toe (tissue covering the nail). I did this for a week and it killed the fungus. Did nothing after that, and after just over 6 months, my nail was as good as new. (From really ugly to perfect)

Same, except for the first week I soaked my feet in half white vinegar and water for an hour or two a day. Then, each morning I wiped just my toenails with a cottonball dipped in vinegar for 2-3 months plus I trimmed often the nails growing out. Wore open toes shoes mostly. My toenails had gotten the “greenies” fungus under polish and it progressed to eating it’s way under most of the length of my big toenails. So gross. Vinegar killed it! So happy.

A simple solution for nail fungus is simply dip your toes or fingers into a saturation of water and borax, and let dry through evaporation. The borax has a very small molecule and as such , will wick into the underlying structure of the toenail or fingernail. Let air dry to keep most boron in place. The boron simply keeps the ph of the structure above the survivability of the fungus, thus effectively eliminating it.

  • @BunnySlippers82

I filed the top of my toenail until it was thin. Then I halfway filled a footbath with warm water, added half a bottle of listerine, about a cup of epsom salt, a few drops of tea tree oil, and soaked for 20 minutes. I soaked twice a week, and twice per day I rubbed vicks vaporub on my toenail before putting on a clean sock. It took a few weeks, but I completely got rid of my toe fungus that I'd had for years, and it's never returned.

Had one toenail with a fungus for about 1 year, tried the $50 nail application for 3 weeks and it worked to a degree, but the fungus came back almost immediately. Then someone told me about high dose vitamin C (not for fungal removal, but for it's many health benefits). Anyway, I was on a weekend away drinking with friends and wondered if vitamin c would cure my hangover. So, on waking I took about 15-20 1200mg vitamin C tablets. Went off for the day, felt alright (other than said hangover) but that evening I noticed the skin under my toenail was massively inflamed. To the point where I couldn't bend my big toe. It was red and very puffy. I thought I must have picked up an infection. But there was no sign of puss. So, I decided to leave it alone and see if it reduced the next day. To my surprise it did. And after about 4 days the swelling had gone. Then the strangest thing happened. My toenail started to break and a fresh new toenail was coming through. I then researched to find out if vitamin c was anti fungal. And it was! The vitamin C had eaten away the fungus and given my toe a fresh start. The downside to this is waiting for the new nail to grow and the old one to fall off. Hope this helps!

Living in Oregon my wife and I both developed toe fungus. Everything there has fungus or mold, it's dark with fewer than average sunny days. We moved to a state with much more sunshine and we noticed our fungus was starting to retreat. We would keep our toes in the sun for about 20 minutes a day. It almost went completely away last summer but when winter came it came back. I figure it's the UV rays that kills the fungus which makes sense. I plan on trying the iodine and when this summer comes get some more sun.

Thanks Dr Berg! I've been afflicted with toenail fungus for the last six years! I also have candida overgrowth in my gut. I'm so glad I didn't use antifungal medications. Fasting for 20 days nearly knocked the infection on its head... until I started reintroducing certain foods. I knew to avoid dairy and carbs... but no one told me that yeasts and fungi feed candida! So, I'm there eating nutritional yeast and mushrooms... within a day all my symptoms came back: the bloated belly, insomnia, tiredness, brain fog, depression, insane carb cravings. I'm totally gutted. Still. Every mistake is a learning curve! I'm currently doing a candida cleanse, one recommended by Christa Orecchio. If you could do a video on candida I would be extremely grateful: especially dos and don'ts. It's a real nasty infection, really hard to get rid of. There is a simple test you can do to self diagnose yourself. Before eating and drinking, spit in a glass of water. If it floats you're fine. If it sinks, you're more fungus than human!

I definitely agree about the sand! 💖 I would also like to add to your comment that if someone lives in the desert (like, you know, the Sonoran Desert) even walking in a nice sandy wash helps. But especially after a nice rain, when it is safely NOT flooding. The energy of the sand and minerals really helps emotionally for me. One of my favorite things is to walk after its dried a bit and find those areas where the sand has dried smooth and walk on that. It has a satisfying delicate crunch beneath my feet.
Dr. Berg do you think Aloe Vera would help? I don't believe I have ever had this toenail issue, but then, once I get home the shoes are off! 😊

Like me, if you've already tried these suggestions and they didn't work--maybe helped but didn't completely get rid of the fungus, try therapeutic grade oregano essential oil. Apply a drop or two to affected nails 4 times a day, making sure the whole nail is covered (I used a Q-tip to distribute and rub it in a bit). The color of my nails improved in about 1-2 weeks but I had to wait for most of the nail to grow out for the nail to lose the curving and thickening and return to normal. I gradually decreased the application from 4 times a day to two and now still apply it a couple of times a week as maintenance/insurance. I do not want that nasty stuff to come back! Everyone is different and what works for some may not work for others but I hope this helps someone.

Dr. Berg, I had a mild case of toenail fungus years ago and my grandmother told me to soak my feet 10 minutes every night in full strength vinegar regular household stuff and in one week it was gone. One thing I learned is to clean under my toenails after every time I showered because all kind of funk including fecal matter collects under your toenails when you shower a lot of people don't realize that that helps keep your feet from stinking in your shoes as well. Love Dr Berg... have learned so much over the years! I'd like to add another inexpensive and REAL solution here for toenail fungus... and that is vapor rub! A year ago, I had to have a whole side of my toenail removed bc I got an infection in the side of my toe from nail fungus that developed after I dropped a small can of catfood on it. All healed now, but when fungus started growing again on the same nail a year later (after wearing toenail polish for several weeks), AND then my toe started hurting & got red again like previously, I thought "oh no... I don't want to do THAT again!" So I researched again & found the vapor rub suggestion. At bedtime, I used tea tree oil first so it would soak in to my skin, then used vapor rub... and within just 2-3 days, I could see the infection subsiding, then all white spots on my nail, disappeared!!

I am 32 and had toenail fungus on my big toenail and it had affected the entire nail bed which is pretty tough to heal. I know how it happened and would like to share. I kept long toenails for fun liked how they look and one day accidentally hit my toe the nail part to a desk which I didn't think of much untill it was too late and significant damage to the nail bed had happened and fungus had caught hold. The nail hurt few days and I thought it was due to the injury but as days passed the injury healed but my nail started smelling funky while cleaning it etc. I didn't think much about it as it was toe nail after all. After few months is when it started to change color and shape that is when I thought something was wrong and realized I had caught toenail fungus. The dermatologist I went to see scared me so much but I am happy she did. She told me that it takes a long time to heal I am looking at a year or 2 and it can spread to other nails. Frankly I was very scared. I was embarrassed to wear open sandals to work but in order to heal you need to wear open shoes to let the toenail breathe. Fungus thrives in moist damp environment which closed shoes are perfect for.. This fungus actually lasted for almost 2-3 years but not because the dermatologist said so i was not consistent with the natural remedies as life happens . At first when I went to see dermatologist, she prescribed lamisil topical treatment and within weeks healthy nail started growing out within 6 months I had a new nail growing out replacing the disfigured nail. but after I stopped the treatment the nail became discolored again. I wasn't sure what to do next. Tried vinegar method but i wasn't consistent following the natural methods then became pregnant so had to stop any treatments but afterwards I thought to do something as it was also very painful at times. So I researched alot and started using tea tree oil soap to wash my nail during bath time and then make sure to dry it thoroughly and used lotrimin powder all over. I made sure not to cross contaminate anything with healthy nails. I changed my footwear and washed some which I could and sprinkled Lotrimin powder inside shoes. Also do not use the part of the towel to dry the infected nail on other nails or any other tools like clippers etc on other nails to prevent spread of the fungus. I also used to soak my nail in the diluted hydrogen peroxide solution everyday which happen to kill the fungus within 2 weeks and my nail started becoming hollow at the nail bed and I started trimming and filling the hollowed nail in little by little in order to reach the nail bed until I could remove the whole nail without hurting me. That's when the fungus in the nail bed was killed by the hydrogen peroxide solution.I didn't have a nail for quiet some time and it didn't feel good frankly. But slow and steady a fresh healthy nail grew back and it wasn't affected with fungus again. I did follow the tea tree nail wash in the bath after for some time cz I was scared it might pop up again but fortunately it didn't. I stopped all treatments now and my nail is as good as before. I know the pain to look at the discolored nail it was disheartening and thought it would never heal but this helped me and hope it helps someone else too. Now I keep my toenails nails short as lesson learnt. Toenail fungus can make you embarrassed but sadly it is very painful too if the nail bed is affected. Also if there any shoes you used during the time you had fungus make sure to either throw them away, wash them with soap or if really expensive or precious to you sprinkle lotrimin powder inside them to avoid catching it again. Fortunately my fungus did not spread to other nails and I am so grateful to God for that😊

I think he really nailed (no pun intended) how you should actually treat these conditions. Often issues like nail fungus are affected heavily by lifestyle. Too many carb, wearing shoes that cause your feet to stay moist. Medications and treatments for fungus can be effective if you're not actively working against them. The antifungal treatment has a low success rate because people aren't willing to do the extra work to get better. Granted if you can use some of these remedies to get the fungus back under control that's going to be better than taking an oral antifungal for months on end.

I've been watching your videos for a few over a year now and have learned everything I need to know about the body, organs, how they work and don't work. Absolutely amazing, Thank you sincerely. I just want to get better and have quality of life again.

I'm dealing with some cracked upper molars, have had 2 pulled and that has caused chronic sinusitis, my health has gone downhill since all this has happened and I'm wondering if it's all caused by my teeth? I have a lot of inflammation in my body and probably auto immune but no Dr has helped me with any of it. I am losing weight and was told I look malnourished as well. Can you tell me more about your health journey?

@ltaylor2238. please check out Dr. Ellie Phillips. She's the equivalent to Berg in the dental world imo.

I had both large toenails removed a couple of years ago. They were so disfigured and I had given up hope of ever having normal toenails. I didn’t want to take Lamisil. However, the fungus is still there. I am glad that I have started the Keto diet. I am going to give the iodine a try. Thank you for all of your great information. Learning about what havoc carbs can create in my body is helping me a lot to stay faithful to the diet. I am very excited about my future health.

I’ve had success getting rid of toenail fungus with tea tree oil. I wouldn’t advise using pure tea tree oil straight- it can be very irritating to skin. I diluted with olive oil. About 50/50. Took about 6 months of nightly application but it went away.

Dr Berg I visited my brother and he suffers from toenail fungus..I advised to soak his feet in very salty water on a daily basis.
Also to apply crashed garlic mixed with bicarbonate and ACV...
How amazing listening to your advise. Thank you very much.

I’ve had nail fungus for abt the last 30 years or so and I can tell you, it’s crazy tough to get rid of it. Tried 3 separate rounds of LAMISIL and even tried a laser treatment that cost me close to $1000 and still nothing.
After so much time and frustration, I figure no one other than my wife really sees my toes so stopped paying much attention to it.
Just for kicks, I will try the iodine treatment, but something tells me I will be back here months later w nothing new to report!
The other thing that’s not mentioned in the video is the fact that getting rid of nail fungus w ANY treatment takes a minimum of 9-12 months before you know whether or not the treatment has actually worked because that’s how long a toe nail takes to grow back.
Just wish they sold some sort of lacquer or polish to cover up the nail, cuz I truly do not believe there’s a cure.

I had this problem for over 14 years. After I got my galls bladder removed. Spent $1200, on laser but just cured 2 out of 10. Fatty liver wouldn't let me take any medication. But I did Milk Thistle, for a period of 6 months. I soaked my toes nail on water with 1 teaspoon of clorox every 3 days "Don't Judge Me" and on a daily basis I added Tea Tree Oil on every single nail, day and night. Make sure to file your nails as much as you can "DRILL MASTER". This helped a lot without any medication. But unfortunately I developed a rash on my feet & legs due to the Tea Tree oil after 4 months of applying. But I went to a Podiatrist to treat the rash. She prescribed me Ciclopirox 8% solution but told me that it might not work as fast as pills will do, she also prescribed Antibiotics for the rash for 7 days. Once I started the solution in 3 months, I saw a huge change. All my self medicated treatments started August 2020, and by January 2021, I started the solution by the Podiatrist and by June 2021, I started seeing a changes on my toes, nail were nice and cleared. I am so 😊 because I have 10 toe nails Nice and Neat. It was worth the time I have spent on my toes since the Pandemic started. I gave time to my toe Nails, as I never did before. I continue taking care of them because I know that it can reoccur. Podiatrist wasn't happy as I was. But don't forget something that you got to first heal the inside in order to heal the outside. Since I quit on carbohydrates I noticed a huge change, everything else has helped but mostly the faith I put on the process. Everything I did, I did it under my own risk. I was tired of those ungly toe nail fungus. That anything I did couldn't make it worse. I am Happy with my end results.

Agreed! My bf has struggled for YEARS with no results. He is extremely diligent in the several treatments he has done. He even used oregano oil. I feel that once it's gotten to a certain point that oral medication may be the only option. But he is against using that remedy because he doesn't want to damage his organs and I certainly don't blame him! I just worry greatly at what the fungus could be doing to his health. I'm hoping he, and you, will be ok ♡

I use syringes that I lay sideways under the the edge of the nail to get the tea tree oil under the edge. I squirt it out while slowly pulling the needle sideways out from under the nail. Be careful to not poke the skin. Then I wait about 10 min and clean out underwear the nail. It loosens up all the fungal gunk and i can get it pretty clean.
