Counterpoint: The Squid isn't actually a bad creature. Your proximity scanner just happens to use the same tone as the Squid's alarm clock.
The game says it's deaf. I guess it's more annoyed about the flashing lights in its eyes lol
@@theRealSlimGordon If you spent your whole life in a dark fractal hellscape you'd probably be pretty pissed too if somebody started flashing a bright light in your face.

i like how the Creatures don't actually try to kill you right away but instead just pick you up & (somewhat) gently place you somewhere outside of their territory rather than violently attacking you like 99% of all other territorial Lifeforms & only destroying the Boat somewhat accidentally due to their Grip-strength inflicted on the Boat multiple times
Always appreciate it when territorial behavior is more complex than immediete violence

Remarkable demo. While everyone is rightly commenting on the look, I have to praise the sound design. The noise of undulating and the groans of music, alongside the accompanying monster cries, is spine tingling.
This was seriously my first thought!!! The sounds the creature makes it IMPRESSIVE! It really makes you feel like you're there in the moment and it's terrifying!
Agreed, its on Subnautica levels of sound design
Hero: I need to avoid detection.
Ship: BEEP BEEP BEEP BEEP BEEP BEEP
Thanks for the video!
not so much the beep thats the issue as the flashing of the lights due to it supposedly being deaf but not blind
it explicitly says the creature is deaf...
Did you not see the dev saying it’s deaf? Lol

Ah the feeling of warp travel without a gellar field, how delightfully horrifying.
Nah it’s the feeling with an active field. Shit’s not nearly as real as if when it was off
Out of all the WH40k games, they haven't done "survival horror warp in a malfunctioning gellar field" yet.

"I'm gonna see if I can outrun the squid." A few moments later: "I'm gonna ram the squid."
The terrain that melts away as you approach it is a very weird vibe and really gives this game an unearthly feel. Very visually interesting.
Well, this is a cool idea! Probably not for a standalone game but as a section of a larger one I can see it being really, really tense
Wargame 40k game and every time you go through a warp this happens but shorter
oh hey someone else thought the same thing!
They should make a VR version as well. Imagine the atmosphere
That’s the ticket.
I don't know if the creature reacts to your radar pings, but it would definitely be an interesting mechanic. Possibly with different difficulties.
Level 1 - Simple scanner: The creature knows you have used your radar, but doesn't know where.
Level 2 - Directional radar: The creature knows which direction the radar ping came from and will go there. If the creature is in front of you or behind you, changing direction can help you evade it.
Level 3 - Doppler radar: The creature knows which direction the ping came from and also how fast towards/away from it you're going. Changing speed and movement direction can help you evade it. Using multiple pings in quick succession can help the creature find where exactly you are.
A cool idea, but I feel like the light as a mechanic was underutilized. I thought at first you needed to turn the light on in order to move through the fractal goop but that turned out not to be the case. With how bright the surroundings are it's really only needed when refueling.
Yeah, this needs to be a field/beacon mechanics. One to attract the monster lets you travel.
This is 100% the "Warp" from Warhammer 40k, a parallel dimension of psychic energy and home to horrors beyond our comprehension. This definitely gives the impression of a sea of souls, a tulmutous, infinite expanse governed by the churning emotions and experiences of those who have died and been sent to mix in an endless cauldron. Those who sail it brave true terrors, their body and minds merely potential prey for the monsters outside.
We need that lighthouse,emprah!
Couldn't have described it better myself. It definitely gives off that feeling of some inter-dimensional space where dimensions collide and intersect.
Warp would look more like an ever-changing, twisting, entangled mess of warp currents, this space looks too calm and stable
I'm so glad people are talking about 40k 🥺😊

It's like Iron lung but minus the picture taking and you're in a cave and not the sea.
Tbh anything in the sea is scary and weird so i know im in for an ride
I remember that some years ago I saw a fractal space tec demo were you controlled a ship in first person and I thought "this cool be a cool horror game". I guess some else also thought that
This is what every sailor sees every morning when they are drunk and forced to take the wheel.
Sounds like someone's C/O is very irresponsible
Damn budget cuts. Throwing us into its enclosure to resupply its feeding stations but they won't even bother to shut it in another pen while we do it.
Something i think many horror games get wrong about the creatures is showing them off too much or too closely. shadowy tentacles in the distance will always be scarier than whatever's right in front of you.
"No take! Only throw!"
😂😂😂😂
"Dont you hate it when a big squid just toss your ship around?" - 🚢
No I do not want imaginable horrors beyond my comprehension.
You can't make me, nope!
This was an interesting one. The weird space looking kinda fleshy or gooey but receding every time you got close. I like how it would change as if it was a sea on its own. The ship moving in any direction was pretty cool, like you were in space but also a boat, The weird textures and like little air holes with its flow like movement really makes it interesting to stare at as well as it being affected physically by radar. Its interesting that there were these stations or outpost that youre supposedly out to look for in the first place. It gives me iron lung vibes. The squid looked cool. Love how brass heavy the music was when it went on the offensive,
I cannot imagine how painstaking it must have been to code/design this game. Really well-made.
I think the beauty of it is that it might actually have been, at least compared to how it looks, relative to other 3D indie games, incredibly easy to code. The environment, as a fractal, is just a visualization of math. There’s no actual collision with the environment other than (assuming here) what the squid can “see,” and the fractal peeling away from the ship/squid is something that I believe can be done with just a shader, along with the ship’s lighting. On a code level, the game is basically just the ship and station controls + the squid ai. But I think that just lends even more to the concept as a whole; something so technically simple and fundamental, but boggling to actually view and comprehend
@@wdasx4614 Oh yeah, good point!
If you take a closer look, the fractals are all just 3D visuals with no colissions that react to the player. It might aswell be rendered entirely seperately as a 3D fractal simulation (which exist a dime a dozen)
sadly the visuals give me too much of a headache if I watch too long but I absolutely love the sound design. The "music" becoming frantic when you're thrown off course, the dull creak of the ship as it navigates around. A really cool concept of a game.
I love the red melting style creepy and interesting
this game would make for a killer section in a much larger horror game.
Maybe as like your transit method between going between outposts maybe? Like you need to figure out why the research team hasn’t been responding and also refill the generators that keep the space navigable to humans maybe.
Congrats Manly, you’ve summoned the Warhammer fans
That's a lot of Technomagica vibes, especially the vibes of the Astral Sea. The Astral Sea is full of mathematical equations, geometry, souls, and astral creatures. It is a whole other realm that folds in on itself where soul fueled Astral Engines can be found, as well as hauntingly beautiful fauna and flora.
The Astral Sea is also a, well, a sea, a never-ending sea.
The Warp is kinda meh, not really close.
This is so interesting, i love fractals!! :]
Fractals rules ! :)
Anyone else get Subnautica PTSD when he started the red sonar ping? Because man. I feel that's a game that will live forever in my nightmares.
Pretty cool for a demo. The visuals are great, giant squid works for the enemy, nice atmosphere. I can see this being a good time.
As a proof of concept this is trippy and unsettling in all the best ways. This has immense potential as a concept.
_Riding a ship through Chaos_
Very cool. I even liked the look of the ship. But the sounds 0- - they were incredibly frightening! Also looking up and seeing those giant tentacles of the beast. Looking forward to more.
It's like they took the scary part of Subnautica and dialed down the terror a bit but ramped up the horror.
This would be a good WH Fantasy type of game, like you need to go and do a bunch of things through the galaxy but the main way of moving is through this place, a pseudo disformity
Is this what space travel looks like in Warhammer 40K

The pulsing red light that surges throughout the environment reminds me of a 1999 electronica tune by an experimental band called "We", (tune called "Berimbau"), and from 0:45 to 3:45 on it is an eerie, distorted, repeating sound conjuring thoughts similar to the pulsing red light, or even indecipherable alien communication.
The game kinda gives me Sunless Sea/Skies vibes, if you were seeing it in first person rather than top-down.
Except the monsters of the Unterzee are more likely to just EAT YOU than most of the ones in this game.
This is a p awesome showcase on the terrain tech showcase. Being able to go through the terrain while the trrain itself transform every certain time, and how it transforms as we carve through it real-time.
Nothing like watching a creepy horror game on Easter Sunday
This horror game is so weird and interesting also my trypophobia and claustrophobia wants to have a problem with this game lol
trypophobic club! high five! Luckily, it was somehow disturbing for me but not enough that I had to stop watching.
Ooooohhhhhhh, fourth dimensional life!!
That’s an awesome concept!!!! We would essentially be to them what 2D life would be to us if we ever discovered it
Seems like you can hide from them by turning off the lights while you're away from the stations. But once you're close enough, they can tell you're there. Probably a feature so you can't just cheese your way by getting to a station then hiding. The idea is probably to hide while you're on the way, then time it so you're able to refill the station before the next squid gets near you. Keeps you on your toes and stresses out with the time element. Just my thoughts from watching the gameplay.
I love this game I'm buying it for sure, just feels like one I could play and replay over and over again.
Unlike the sea you can see the sky but here... Madness will consume you
Nearly 2 million let's go Manly!
This scares me and tickles my brain at the same time
love how manly went full ahab on the squid there
Let's go new drop from the god manly
immediate thought on how to make this scarier (haven't finished the video, just thought this when I saw the environment)
Would be scary if the fractal landscape instead of opening and unfolding instead started to fold and thereaten to crush you.
Because one thing is the strange moaning octopus thing trying to destroy your ship and the world itself just casually swallowing you with one of it's constant oscillations would really sell the lovecraftian horror behind the idea
What about, the light attracts the monsters but being in the dark for too long causes the world to try and swallow you
It definitely feels like the environment loses some of the wonder after a while, since it’s basically just aesthetic because it moves around you. Having it actually damage the ship would make it much more interactive and give you a little constant danger to deal with
@@regretfulpixel7737 alan wake 2 but instead of a black lady replace her with a fishing boat
it's like someone played subnautica and only really liked the part where they try to not wreck the cyclops while hiding from the big things
This is why you need weapons. Turn that squid into calamari enough times and they will leave you alone so you can do your job .
Tbh this doesn't really look like fractal space and more like a cave that happens to have undulating and pulsing walls that just dissappear when you get close. I understand the difficulty associated with actually coding the in-game space to function as a fractal though (not to mention the myriad of possible performance and rendering issues associated), so I still appreciate the choice to just emulate the fractal look as closely as possible. The sound design is superb as well.
I always wonder why bots in commet section are begging for likes, even tho the likes do nothing to give them fame.
