Thanks, Keith. Challenging conditions, for sure, and I feel like I'd put the ball in some better spots the second time around. Appreciate the kind words :)
Solid video as always and nice addition of the course guide shots as well to get a good feel/understanding of the course. Pleasure playing as always Adam looking forward to the next!
thank you Adam! my buddies and I will be playing PB and following the next day with a round at PH. your videos will be in constant rotation for the next month.
I used to live near by and played Poppy Hills a lot. Boy, it looks so different after the renovation. Looks SO much more playable. When it first opened it was a BEAST of course...almost UN-playable. Every green out there used to have "Elephant burial grounds" on them!.
Great content Adam! I'm playing my weekly round with buddies this Friday at a course I typically HATE! I just don't play well there and my game is struggling a bit. I'm gonna try and keep in mind the way you play to the course and not your ego. Thanks!
Played Poppy five years ago and absolutely loved it. Being SCGA the rate was fantastic. Was going to get a cart until they told me it was cart path only for the entire course. I opted for a caddie and got a young woman that was in the high school caddie program. Or maybe it’s a post high school/pre college program. Anyway, I was her first loop ever and although she was still learning she did a great job and made the day enjoyable.
@@NotAScratchGolfer everywhere. Lol. For a while it was Rustic Canyon. This year we’re doing a birdie challenge at Olivas Links so that’s where I will play most. But I’ll play anywhere that will let me on.
@@MichaelWogamanGolf Good stuff! I've never played in LA County. Heading north, the closest I've played is in Monterey County. Would love to play some golf out that way this year!
Did they rebuild all the greens and take out the bunkers? Haven’t played there in 40 years. First time playing the course I shot a 77. Not bad considering that I was 6 over after the first 4 holes. After I figured out I could carry the fairway bunkers on each dogleg the birdies started falling. I had 7 birdies in the final 14 holes with 4duces. After the round my partner and I went the bar and Jones the designer of Poppy Hills sat next to us and discussed the design of the course and answered all our questions. It was an amazing experience.
Adam, you hit a very consistent draw with driver that generally keeps you in play off the tee because it is reliable. Can you do a video or explain your set up and swing thoughts that make that so consistent?
Yes, I think this is a great idea! Although oddly enough, I just picked up a new driver and I'm a total mess with it. Might have to switch back to the old one.
Touring Pros hated this course when it was included in the Pebble Beach Pro Am back in the day. They were so vocal about it the course was pretty quickly replaced by Monterey Peninsula. I played it several times back in the 90’s and didn’t enjoy it. No ocean views, target golf on every shot (I.e. very unforgiving) and greens that looked like an elephant cemetery. I no longer play due to a back injury so I won’t be able to check it out since the remodel.
@@NotAScratchGolfer That's fantastic my friend! I love your content! A lot of fun! If you come through to New York, let me know. I'd like to meet up and play a round if at all possible. I'm in Poughkeepsie.
Do these courses work the same as Pebble where you have to stay on property to play? I’m guessing they aren’t cheap either. Love a high quality golf compound though
No - the only course on the Pebble property that requires you stay in order to play is Pebble Beach itself. I'm a member of NCGA (Northern California Golf Association) and the NCGA rate at Poppy Hills is typically $90-100. I think it's double that for non-members.
Hey Adam, I was wondering what the most important thing you learned to hit such straight drives. Ik you’re swing isn’t that technical but as a beginner who struggles to keep my drives in play I was wondering what the most important tip you learned to improve your driver game.
Hey Russell. I should start by saying I don't consider myself qualified to give any instruction. But when I was a n00bie golfer I took a few lessons so as to understand what things influence the start line and curvature of the ball (namely: face angle and club path). Once I wrapped my head around those things, I was pretty quickly able to eliminate misses to the right. Basically, I stopped keeping the face open. These days, I struggle from time to time with shutting the face too quickly which leads to hooks and the dreaded smother hooks. But eliminating one side of the golf course (in my case, the right side) was a huge huge help to preventing blow ups off the tee. I hope that's helpful :)
@@tk-unc How was Del Monte? I need to get there soon. I haven't played either Poppy Ridge or the course at Wente. They're both on my hit list the next time I'm in the Bay Area...potentially as soon as a couple of weeks from now!
