I gotta say this was a very enjoyable video to watch, my amp stopped working last week and after I watched this video I took my amp apart and fixed it, and it worked. You did great, right to the point, funny and nice. You’re going to do great. Thankyou

What causes the transistors to short in the first place? So i bought a used 4 channel amp and it would only ever get hot where one pair of output transistors mount against the amp body. This was during bench testing before installing in car. Sometimes it would overheat just by powering it on with no load, sometimes it wouldnt overheat even under load. After installing in my car, the same transistors got extrememly hot in seconds so i shut it off. Then the next time i turned it on it didnt overheat. Finally, i started my car and drove it 100 ft to my shop and by the time i got there the amp was stuck in protection mode. Took it apart and found the transistors for one of the channels were shorted. I ordered replacement tip35c and tip36c transistors but im worried they will overheat again.

replace all the transistors in that row not just the 2 and your problem should be solved

Would instant popping of the amp fuse be an indicator of a bad transistor or could that be another issue ?

My amp powers up, then the protect light comes on and the amp turns off. This repeats until I pull the power. I havent opened and metered yet. Would this be the same as the amp in your video?

The heat synk's are what goes on top of the transistors.

    Question?
When the amp goes into protection mode. Will that cause the subwoofer to make a thumping sound only?

    • @cedricdebossrepairsUpington

I don't quite get your point but there are some key things that can cause noises when an amp is on protection mode.
      1. The subwoofer isn't getting enough power for it to fully turn on and amplify the bass.
      2. That noise can be distortion coming from the lack of signal.
NB: When the subwoofer is at it's peak it consumes a relatively larger amount of current.
Tips: try disconnecting the sub and only play the speakers and see if the amp is no longer on protection. feel free to always come back. cheers

Hi.. I have Powerbass Monoblock 8000w and it protects immediately when you connect it. Could it be the same problem as that one or maybe you can supply me with other solutions to try!? 🤷🏽‍♂️🤔

What would cause an amplifier to turn on only sometimes? OEM lexus amplifier. Whenever car is parked for a long time the amplifier turns on, but if you stop to get gas (turn car off) the amplifier does not turn back on.

it could be the output capacitor. Open the amplifier and do a visual check. only do this if you have basic knowledge of car amplifier repairs or check my tutorial videos.

How would I find the equivalent of my transistor? I have a 1000w pyramid arctic series amplifier and one of my transistors shorted. It says NC50N06 on it

Why you have changed the transistor when u have problem with protection mode? Shouldn’t we check the mosfets for power supply problem?
