Here are all of the Fixes Bern did to Iron Duke: 1. Rear differential, replace the rear differential fluid every 30,000 or 40,000 miles 2. Valve Cover Gaskets 3. Replaced the timing chain cover seal (Chain driven) 4. Replaced the spark plugs 5. Power Steering Pump (replaced the rubber seals in the power steering pump for 30.00) 6. Replaced the control arms in the suspension 7. Replaced the two rear trailing arm bushings Future 1. Upgrade the front & rear sway bars Good Job!
At 2:02 you stated you wanted to take Iron Duke on Black Bear Pass. Black Bear Pass (BBP) is the Worst Possible Choice. Heck, I've lived in CO for years, and I wouldn't even hike BBP on foot. Jeeps are more narrow than an XC90 and there is one place where a Jeep has to stop, back up, and then go forward again to get around a tight curve. BBP is one of the two (or three) most dangerous Off-road trails in the USA. There are PLENTY of soft-roading places in Boulder County alone. I just found an '08 XC90 Executive trim, with only 220K miles on it AND the 19" wheels. I know many back roads. Come on out, I'll lead you round, it'll be fun. The exterior of the one that I have picked out is immaculate. First thing is I will put a ceramic coat on it!! (Yes, it's me, your rabid (in a nice way!) Forever Fan!!) Oh, Tires! I found a video about a year-long test of Toyo Open Country A/T III tires. The guy has a 4-wheel drive truck and took it on SlickRock track, and other four-wheeling adventures. THOSE are the ones I will put on my executive. Look them up! Awesome tires.
Your 241k mile XC90 looks fantastic inside and out! Clearly you take very good care of it. It is so easy for people to run out and buy something new and pretty but I appreciate and respect car owners who keep their older cars running, driving and looking great! Your XC90 is stunning!
I'm from Germany and last year, after a long search, I found an XC90 V8 as an R-Design. It only had 52K km (about 32K miles) on the speedometer and the V8 is an absolute rarity here... I previously drove an XC90 with the 3.2L engine for 2 years, but the 6 cylinder was too underpowered for this car. I'm totally happy with this upgrade and appreciate exactly the same characteristics of the superior V8 cruiser that you list here in the video. Thanks for the video and best wishes across the big pond ;)
I'm planning to go look at a 2010 w/ 120K miles on MLK weekend (if it's still available). In your experience, when do the starters and alternators go on these? trying to gauge how much immediate preventative maintenance I'll need to do. TIA and lovin' your videos.
Ooo very nice. Thanks for watching!! Honestly these things can go to 200k with minimal effort, especially if the valve covers aren't leaking, the alternator stays pretty dry!
Nice review 😊i have an 09 V8 R- design fully loaded, no issues just regular maintenance. Changed all fliuds, trans, angle gear, rear diff/ including the filter in the diff. (Valve covers/ timing chain, power steering pump, common issues with the V8) no other issues in over 5 years of ownership.
Just picked up a 08 XC90 V8 Executive a week ago with 125k on it and it’s in quite good shape. I’m glad you did what you did with Thor so I could have realistic expectations when I did find a worthy XC90, I do plan on soft roading my XC90 every now and again but I absolutely appreciate your videos and updates with your personal XC90’s. awesome review man!!! I've had my 2008 S80 V8 for about 2 months now and this has to be the best car I have driven. I picked it up with 96k miles after searching for weeks. so far have done all fluids and picked up drilled and slotted rotors and so much more, hoping to do the gaskets soon because it is leaking. so far so good on reliability! hoping to pick up a xc90 version soon!

She (I haven't named her yet but I do know she's a she LOL) needs a little TLC but overall I'm loving it already! Your videos definitely made me keep an eye out for these vehicles and when this one popped up last week I had to go check her out. Keep up the great videos!

That car looks amazing for 240k miles! I'm trying to decide between an earlier XC90 or first (maybe second gen) V70. The V70 is definitely cheaper lol, and the first gen one look amazing.
Bridgestone Alenzas are an excellent all purpose all season. Had those as an OEM on my Wrangler, which I originally intended to swap out for an all terrain, but the Alenzas handled ~6” of snow just fine. I’m surprised you didn’t consider the Volvo moose badges. Check them out, EBay and other places have it. A fun spin on the Ferrari mortif.

Ok Bern I have questions. A lot of them. I got a silver 2009 V8 AWD with about 200k miles around the first of the year but I haven't put hardley any miles on it yet. After an accident 15 years ago I went from "man of action" to limited....just very limited. I don't want to feel like I'm on the edge of stranding myself in some state park on a day trip because I under estimated just how screwed I really am. I wanted to upgrade the sway bar, but apparently the V8 Sport has a thicker one anyways, regardless the IPD one looks great as a replacement.
