You should definitely see if you can get your hands on an Ocean Race edition of the XC90, as that one is a sight to see. Also, I liked my 2005 Volvo XC90 so much that I put a head unit with a back up camera in it, installed running boards, installed LED halo headlights, applied a brand new metallic turquoise exterior colour paint job to it, which looks very nice, removed the factory seats and center console and upgraded them to include the rear seat dvd player upgrade. I have a beige interior with a wooden finish on the steering wheel. I also applied custom sheepskin seat covers to improve the comfort of each seat which is a thin version for the middle of the seat and not the entire seat, and I finally also got my hands on a set of 2 1/2 inch thick white wall tires which compliments the entire car and makes it look elegant. They say white walls only fit on classic cars, and I consider the Volvo XC90 to be a classic car, plus the white walls actually look good on the car. Love the XC90!
Our 2004 S80 2.9 got me in love with these Ford era Volvos, but unfortunately it had some issues (probably oil leaks) that mechanics couldn't trace. We eventually sold it in 2009 and got a brand new 2010 Camry (4 cylinder) that we still have. I miss that Volvo though.
Had the same issue on my Xc90 v8. Bought a new diff for 1300us and and it took me and a friend 6 houers to do the job. Non of us had done anything like this before so it was a "simpel" job 😊

On other models (S40 T5 for example) the diaphragm goes and you can check this by pulling the oil dipstick (if the noise goes away when pulling dipstick on T5 while engine running, then you know it's the diaphragm). For the V8 from what I've found (I've only owned 2 myself) once the pump is bad ... It's bad and has to be replaced. Note of caution: Our 1st V8 XC90 had a "bad" PS pump, which predated us taking ownership (very high mileage 1-owner before we bought it). The PS pump ties into the rack and pinion and the lack of fluid over periods of time (my guess ... Just got my 09 V8 R-Design in passion red and love the look and power. Previously owned a 14 3.2 and took me a long time to find this new (older) one. Now I just have to figure out how to put a trailer hitch on with the rear valence Cheers on the great XC90 videos, enjoy seeing your story and hearing from other owners.
@@thanehanson8369Try the "hidden hitch" receivers for towing. Hidden Hitch was bought out by Reese parent company years ago. When you're shopping, make sure you get the tongue weight 500 and towing rated for 5000+ models, and not the 350 tongue and 2500-3000 lbs towing models. (they're all the same price from same parent company, and maybe it's just the sales listings that "get it wrong" but don't recommend taking the chance). Highly recommend the factory (from stealership) towing connector/harness/module and software, as it will automatically turn off the backup sensors when towing and also change your transmission shift points appropriately. You may have to get two small "L bracket" pieces and some 2 sets of small nuts/bolts to attach to the tow plug housing to your receiver depending on the model you buy so it sits parallel to the ground.
Glad to see you got another one! I'm curious to see how the diff rebuild goes. Mine does the same humming from 30-50mph, especially when cold. I'd be interested in the running boards, but shipping might be impossible since I'm on the west coast haha.
Congratulations. I just let my 2008 Volvo XC-90 V8 go earlier today. In October, a tractor trailer was stopped on a grade in front of me and when the lighted turned green he couldn't find a forward gear he liked and rolled back into me and then pushed me about twenty feet backwards into two more vehicles. Although STILL drivable, the damage exceeded the book worth of the vehicle and the insurer totaled the car. This was our third Volvo and up till the accident I'd accumulated 287,500 miles. I will dearly miss this car. I'm now driving a 2015 Mercedes GLK 350. A fine car, but I'll miss the Volvo a long time.

Bern, Duke is one handsome vehicle. Those older XC90s have great presence. Almost like a much fancier and more sophisticated Durango of a similar period. You might want to look into Solution Finish as a restoring option for the plastic trim on the bottom before you do a full paint job on it. I follow a lot of detailers and it seems to be one of the best for restoration of the trim. Then coating it with a ceramic wax/hybrid like Griots garage Ceramic 3 in 1 after would really protect it well. I use that on every exterior surface on my 2017 X3 aka “Hans” except for the tires. Great stuff and lasts a long time for the ease of application and price.

I will be getting the keys to a '08 XC90 V8 this week. Wrenching in Volvo dealerships from 2010-2018, I have always had an appreciation for the style and safety of the P2 XC90. With 5 V8 balance shaft repairs under my belt, I became pretty familiar with the V8 and have always felt that it is a special engine. My preference in cars is Volvo and I was not specifically looking for an XC90 but a very nice XC90 V8 came across in my car shopping certainly piqued my interest. It drove as nice as it looked and although my wife does not care for the color, the way the car drove and its generally fantastic condition won her over. Though I'm not thrilled at the thought of filling the gas tank, I am excited at the opportunity to drive and preserve this special Swedish masterpiece.
It is ice white, same as our S40 T5. Although it doesn’t need to be cleaned (it is immaculate), I’m going to decon, polish and seal the paint next weekend so that it just gleams in the sun. But mostly to protect the paint from our relentless desert sunshine here in Phoenix.
So glad to see you back in an XC90. I love my '07 V8 Sport... What's the deal with the sizeable crease in the driver's door? Also, the only suspension mods that I would recommend are Bilstein B4 or B6 struts, IPD Solid Strut Brace mounts and IPD Heavy-Duty Front Control Arms. You've probably found with your new '90 running the 19" wheels that there isn't much room to lower the car to begin with, so that can easily be overlooked. For your wheels, did you Plasti-Dip? My Vulcanis 19's are curbed and require a refinish and I love that dark gunmetal colour... You've inspired me for a springtime facelift project!
Thank you!! I’m thrilled! You know what, I have no idea! I was thinking about asking a PDR guy or something. Bought the car with it! Interesting, noted! I definitely plan on a suspension/braking upgrade down the road. I actually painted my wheels this time! I used a graphite can of wheel spray paint from Advance Auto!
I live in sweden and the xc90 V8 is a rare sight here sad enough….almost all gen1 xc90s is either 2.5t or t6 engines….and all the facelifts -07 are diesel. So dear americans, enjoy the one swedish thing we swedes cant enjoy ourselfs 😢
Ohh yeah! You could email me or dm me on Instagram! Thank you! Im so excited 😆 It’s pretty easy! There’s good tutorials on TH-cam, you just have to sand the wheels down, clean them up and then spray!
They are getting really hard to find. I was searching a few years ago and they were aplenty. Bought one last year and had to drive 6 hours to pick it up...nice to find these and keep them on the road! I also LOL'd because I just sold one of our last Subarus to buy the Volvo....saw your ownership badge and chuckled.

Can anyone chime in on how these hold up in New England winters? Im looking into getting one, seems very well maintained from the outside, just not sure what 14 years in Maine would do to it
Yeah! More so my question is, a car that's already spent 14 years in New England winters, do things like subframes and other key structural components easily rust out like on some other cars ?
Our v8 xc90 initially had the valve cover leak. This is a 10+ hour job. I paid to have it fixed. Less than 2 months later, the rear seal and timing cover leaking. Mechanic says trade it in. I'd beware high mileage volvo as they are difficult to work on and a lot of shops will pass. If you get volvo do get the v8 but again buyer beware on high mileage.
@kenburgos9495 I'm sure the mechanic did it in less time but it's a 10+ hour job for 99% of the diyers. I'd guess mechanic did it in 5 or 6. He told me that it was a major pain to get it done.
As a proud xc90 mk1 owner myself (I also have an executive model in the same colour combination as you). I’m thinking of buying the legend head unit but the designer told me it doesn’t have an in built light sensor to dim the display at night. Did you find that an issue?
If you like working on your own vehicles and not getting ripped off by the Stealership, you're gonna love your Volvo. replacement/aftermarket parts are available everywhere unlike the Merc you had, I know this, because I owned two Mercs and the replacement/aftermarket parts pool is almost non-existence, hence, the high price of parts being shipped to you from the Factory in Germany. and the downtime and pain in the ass to get changed out. I have a gang of horror stories about owning Mercs and the ONLY one that's worth owning in my opinion is the SEC560 coupe and even still it's a Money pit. If you like throwing your money away, buy a Benz, if you like saving money and pride of Ownership, buy a Volvo.

For 12 years I was driving volvo 940 turbo. Now last 3 years spend with Forester XT. This month I will change the car. Can you advice what next will be a good choice? XC90 od one of my choice.
What's the point in driving a Volvo with an engine that wasn't built by Volvo? Sure, it was designed 'for' Volvo. But that's beside the point. Isn't the V8 a gas-guzzler?

Though I'm not thrilled at the thought of filling the gas tank, I am excited at the opportunity to drive and preserve this special Swedish masterpiece.
That is excellent! What color is it?
Very interested in your running boards if still available. Thank you in advance and love your content/videos!
Thank you! Yeah I still have them!
Congratulations, bro!
Thanks man!!
I quite like the V8!! I'd love to try a diesel XC90 one day too though!
We can trade my 2008 d5 r design diesel tuned to 225hk and 460nm against your v8😎 my next xc90 has to be a v8. Nice videos👌 👋from sweden@@BernonCars
I'm interested in the side bars! Glad to see you back with a xc90 and keen to see how you fix up Duke. How difficult is it to paint the oem wheels?
Ohh yeah! You could email me or dm me on Instagram! Thank you! Im so excited 😆
It’s pretty easy! There’s good tutorials on TH-cam, you just have to sand the wheels down, clean them up and then spray!
Its a great alternative 😊
They are getting really hard to find. I was searching a few years ago and they were aplenty. Bought one last year and had to drive 6 hours to pick it up...nice to find these and keep them on the road! I also LOL'd because I just sold one of our last Subarus to buy the Volvo....saw your ownership badge and chuckled.
They really are! I see some every now and then, of course after I buy one, LOL. Haha I love my badges!
My friend flew his 2 son's and himself to Kentucky to get a 2010 and drove it back to Rhode Island
@DaGranFather401 that's quite the trek! Still worth it!
Absolutely worth it. He got a v8 executive between my friend his father and my other friend we have 5 v8s in total keep up the great work on your videos man I'm also friends with Ryan Gee 🙏 he's a helluva good person
how much you want for the running boards?
Hundred bucks?
BWAHAHAHAW!! I can’t believe we both came off the Benz Dadawagens
Thats funny!!! Its good to be back in a Volvo!! I love the T6, I had an S60 with that engine and I miss it dearly!
in my v8 its the tv thats rattling a lot when u hit high speeds from 130 to 180 km/h
Interesting!! Thankfully mine don’t seem to rattle!
You gona put magnaflow on it like the last one? It sounded awesome. please let us know part numbers they were if u could, mine is too quiet.
I think about it but I like how quiet this one has been 😂
Well done 🎉 congrats. Stay safe, Tim
Thank you very much!
This Volvo it’s Gorgeous it’s different from all the suvs inthe road
Certainly!
The bending headlight is $800 a piece. Can you get them cheaper (OEM)?
I just thankfully found a guy parting out his 2011! Otherwise I don’t know what I’d do LOL
Nice purchase! 😃👍
Are you going to make a video on how to fix the rear diff?
Thank you!! I thought about it but it’s too big of a job for me 😂
Definitely want one of these has my first car
You totally should!
These do have a pcv that goes bad. if you take the oil cap off and there air blowing out then its bad. most likely causing the valve cover leaks
Interesting! I’ll have to add that to my list
Can you share a link to buy the transmission cooler for the XC90 V8 please
I don't have the link unfortunately, I was just planning to pick one from the junk yard LOL
I want a low mileage one, but they are hard to find
Yeah I was originally looking for a lower mileage one myself! But after so many months of looking, I submitted 😂
Do you have to run premium grade fuel in the Volvo V8 or do they run well on regular fuel?
I use regular in mine and it's been very happy!
@@BernonCars that's great! Thank you!
@@JPWirt of course!!
Hi, I have an XC90 Luxury 2014, and even though I have the running boards installed, the black top plastic with the XC90 inscription on it, were stolen. So, I’m interested in buying those simple pieces. Hope you can help me. I have 3 Volvos now, and I’m about to get 2 more, but that is subject of another conversation… hahaha.
Cheers man, I like your videos.
Oh no! Ebay may have good options.
Believe me I know how that goes, I want another Volvo myself 🤣
@@BernonCars i collect cars with one of my brothers, and this volvo "thing" its just my thing... hahaha... we have older cars, but i think that i might get me a Volvo Collection, so in the future i can get to inherit it to my daughter. So far i have 3, and if evrything goes right, on 2024 i'll buy 2 more. we will see. On the other hand, i haven't been able to find thos plastic pieces nowhere. If you know a site, please let me know. Cheers Man.
Can anyone chime in on how these hold up in New England winters? Im looking into getting one, seems very well maintained from the outside, just not sure what 14 years in Maine would do to it
It would totally hold up! These are excellent in snow and any foul weather
Yeah! More so my question is, a car that's already spent 14 years in New England winters, do things like subframes and other key structural components easily rust out like on some other cars ?
@aaronkudatsky8940 I have seen some crazy situations of rust but not really often. Volvos usually hold up to road salt and such pretty well!
Oh yeah definitely gotta pay to play
UR crazy... it does NOT 10 hours to do valve covers.. Period... you got ripped off...
@kenburgos9495 I'm sure the mechanic did it in less time but it's a 10+ hour job for 99% of the diyers. I'd guess mechanic did it in 5 or 6. He told me that it was a major pain to get it done.
Powwrs steering pump line oring leaks and presents as timing or rear main.. it
Would you consider 110k miles high mileage?
Where can I buy those pink pants?
Target 🤣
As a proud xc90 mk1 owner myself (I also have an executive model in the same colour combination as you). I’m thinking of buying the legend head unit but the designer told me it doesn’t have an in built light sensor to dim the display at night. Did you find that an issue?
Nice! Twin! Interesting! That was one complaint honestly. It get a little bright at night
Most recently a guy swapped the V8 into his s60r and it still retains its factory m66 manual transmission
Ohh wowww that's insane!
u cray cray, cant wait to see the volvo hole filled!
Hahaha heeeeeellll yeaahh!!
woah! this car is a monster indeed!
Yeah it is!!
Found one of these, awd v8 92k miles for 3500 idk if i should bite the bullet.
92k miles??? That’s a steal!!!
Just picked up a 2011 v8,89k mile cx90.
Ohh woww very nice!
Hi Bern, If you could, would you get a 2007 XC90 V8 ??? Kurious, I am (curious). I have a Volvo-shaped hole in my soul, already!!!
I would, but I would expect to have to do some repairs like valve cover gaskets and such, but otherwise an excellent vehicle!
Yuppp, it’s so good to be back in a Volvo. I don’t miss the Merc at allllllll
i think they looks good with the bigger tires
Oh yeah I loved the look but it drove worse afterwards
ohhhh ok that's why u said they were better made for the asphalt
Yup exactly!
Do you still have the running boards
I do!
我来自中国 很喜欢你的节目 希望有中文字幕 我有一台Volvo xc60 2011
Thank you! I will keep that in mind!!
An Exploder rear diff?? Bummer.
Right!
And there is NO aftermarket upgrades for the Explorers. I suspect it's the same for the XC90.@@BernonCars
im abt to buy one for 5k at 60k miles with a V8.
Damnnn thats a steal, what year?
❤
Do I want to know the average fuel economy haha
14 🤣🤣
subaru ownership badge on a Volvo?? interesthing.....
Ha yup I wanted to put it on 😆
@@BernonCars lol you did that? i thought it came like that from the previous owner nice video btw quality looks great with the new camera. Now do some 4k content lol...
@@BernonCars I used to get those free badges when i had 2 Subaru Outbacks back in the olden days
For 12 years I was driving volvo 940 turbo. Now last 3 years spend with Forester XT. This month I will change the car. Can you advice what next will be a good choice? XC90 od one of my choice.
Volvo shaped hole in the wallet too... Hey biting off Subaru people I saw those on the back lol/ They are fun vehicles
Ha right 😂 yeah I wanted to gey the badges of honor for mine haha
Massage?!?!
Massage!!!
I'd love to have the Supercharged XC90 V8 Prototype car... 650hp ♥️💦
Imagine!!
It probably drinks gas like a mfer lol.
Fun car?
It's honestly nowhere near as bad as my old Passport (12mpg) and QX4 (13mpg) 😂😂 I get around 16 in town and 21-23 on the highway!
But it totally is fun yeah!
@@BernonCars that's not too different than the modern xc90s with the turbocharge supercharge crap... better than i thought
@levimachado yeah right! Same shit 😂
What's the point in driving a Volvo with an engine that wasn't built by Volvo? Sure, it was designed 'for' Volvo. But that's beside the point. Isn't the V8 a gas-guzzler?
The V8 isn't a gas guzzler! Nothing like a Land Cruiser or something of that caliber. Also, just drive one. No explanation needed
Man don’t paint the plastic , get a silicon shoe polish from Germany that stays for ages ( Collonil silicon polish black $30 au ) . Used for few years , it’s great .
Good idea! I'll look into that
