  • This was another of my off the shelf half finished projects, using the Japanese process Yakisugi of charring wood to preserve it
I try to use this woodturning channel as a platform to share ideas, and to demonstrate to other wood workers the steps needed to achieve this.
I use many different types of wood in varying combinations, as well as combining this with resins, i tend to use glass cast 50 as i can use this without the need of a pressure pot.
For my finishes I use things like Wood dyes spirit based and water based, high gloss wax and
Boiled Linseed Oil - Danish oil and hard wax oil. I also like to experiment with differing textures to give my bowls a different feel to them
For my actual wood turning i use a galaxy DVR lathe 14 44 which is very versatile, which gives me the ability to turn a 14-inch bowl or spindle length of 44-inchs
Thank you very much for watching my channel and please feel free to leave comments below.

I don't usually enjoy the burning process, the smell sticks to everything, but I do like the end result, great work Steve!

Thanks Chris, you are right of course, even though i had the fan on and the door open it still smells in my workshop

Thanks Mike, i was going to use it to put a spare key in but i think a key safe may be a much better idea

Sorry, but I just don't get it. Looks like a burnt bowling ball to me. Just my preference on the look, not at all a comment on your skills.

Hi Krethjr, I admire your honesty and your input, It was only ever meant as an ornament and i was looking for that beautiful bluey satin black colour which you get from burning. Saying that it was a bit of an experiment and not one i think i will be repeating, i do prefer the look of natural grained wood, Thanks for watching and leaving your comment

Thanks Randy, it was funny that when I showed this to my wife she said how much she liked the colour on it and wished I had left it as it was
