Never had a box fan but I can tell from this video, the confort zone ones are absolutely terrible. If you paired it up to a vintage box fan, it would destroy the cheap Chinese one in every way.
I completely agree. I had that exact fan years ago, and it was definitely the worst box fan I had ever used. It didn’t have that rattle, but there were other problems that I couldn’t stand. One of them was a strong plastic smell that wouldn’t go away even after hours of use. It would fill up the room with that smell and I’m sure it couldn’t have been healthy lol.
This is how you know when a motor has reached the point of cheapness where quality is affected. That's one aspect where I have to give props to Lasko for, is maintaining an acceptable quality of motor. I have yet to come across a Lasko fan with rattling bearings. And the motors that Lasko specifies for their use all seem to be easily serviceable, I have yet to come across a Lasko fan with stamped motors.
I agree, the motors Lasko uses seem halfway decent. If nothing else, they at least come with an adequate amount of lubrication from the factory. I can't remember the last time I came across a locked up 3733.
Honestly, I don’t mind a loud fan as long as it is an even fan sound. Any sort of rattling or clicking or vibrating (no matter how small) bothers me to no end. That one is just sad. At first I thought it was an aero speed from the thumbnail, and they aren’t too horrible if you ask me, but this is bad.

If I am using it in an area where I am watching TV or listening to the radio or something, I want it to be quiet, but if I am in a quiet room, I need the background noise. Nothing bothers me more than complete silence where you can hear every little thing. I like the sound of vintage fans. More often than not it is a more even deeper sound as opposed to the uneven higher pitched sound of fans today... they just sound bad if you ask me. The best sounding fans in my opinion are the old Bersted table fans and Lakewood box fans with the plastic blades like the k223. Rattling or any other noise besides “fan noise” from a fan drives me crazy. I have a lot of fans that run really well and are really nice, but are just shelf queens because they have a slight rattle or click when oscillating or something like that I can’t get to go away.

I had a comfort zone space heater. I took it over to my moms to use because my bedroom over there gets cold in the winter. the very first night I go to use it, the fan quit working, so all it was doing was putting out heatwith no fan. dangerous. Just shows that it was a peace of junck. I will never by comfort zone products again because of that.
The ONLY thing I like about this fan is how the frame is shaped like an actual box and not that hideous super rounded shape like the modern Lasko and Holmes.

It's often times the only thing factoring in how well I sleep. The latest generation Lasko fans from Walmart are pitiful. Right now I'm in the market for a mid-range fan that puts out a ton of noise.

I once had a cover zone in I took it apart I was to take something out of the horse to make it vibrate so much then I was trying to wash it and after that it burned up the motor and the switch think is gone forever those things are a piece of crap
I think I herd once that those comfort zone box fans are rebranded aerospeed box fans. they are probibly made by the same maniafacturer, and they just slap sevral differint brand names on them. from what I could see, that fan looked just like the aerospeed box fan that I have.

what a piece of crap i have a Haier brand box fan that looks insanely like a 3rd gen Lakewood and its way better than this at least its quiet and moves air has a full sized shaded pole motor which is a rarity for an early 00s box fan
I honestly dont even know why you bother picking these things up, they're all so crappy lol! It almost sounds like the blade is hitting into something while it's running! Also to be honest the noise level of any modern box fan made within the last 25 years is atrocious, especially considering how little air they move. I so much prefer a lower tone sound of older box fans than the high pitched whirring of this new junk! To me it's comparable the difference between listening to a big old carbureted V8 car/ truck chugging along and a modern honda civic screaming at 7000 RPM with no muffler
The videos I've recorded of this fan have generated over $110 to date. I can buy a good amount of vintage stuff with that money! Yes, the newer box fans are absurdly loud, but I think it's nice to have a few around to use in the garage when it floods, around the yard, etc.. Areas where the units may get tipped over or damaged in some way, and it wouldn't matter since they're junk. I agree completely about the vehicles, I can't stand the sound of the cars with loud "mufflers" today.

Lasko fans are also not that great. Lasko box fans are also garbage. They don’t last long and are pretty noisy. I will not buy Comfort Zone or Lasko fans.
They used to be fine. I have a lasko fan that just died after almost 14 years of near continuous duty. If I had caught the bearing going out earlier, I could have saved it, but it ended up causing the windings to be cooked from the excessive heat.

I remember sleeping in a hotel with a fan like that and it was pretty noisy and made it difficult for me to sleep at night because of all the noise.

My boxfan is a Toastmaster and the thing is CONSTANTLY.. And i mean *CONSTANTLY* Rattling, its very noisy

I believe this sound is the warped blade hitting the metal bars on the back of the fan. If you could replace the blades, i think that would go away.
