- I got to see Indiana Jones and The Great Circle in a hands-off preview provided by Bethesda! That combined with a Q&A means I have some new info to share with you even if I didn't get the opportunity to play it yet.

I think puzzle game balance is one of the toughest things to pull off. The line between clever and obtuse is razor thin.
And another thin line to being rote/tedious
I dunno, no one seems to make really abstruse (what you mean by "obtuse") puzzles anymore. That was more an adventure game moon logic issue decades ago. And many games with tough puzzles have hint systems.
The definition does fit better but I gotta admit its the first time Im seeing that word. Thought it was a typo at first!
@@starkiller34 Obtuse is one of those words that's used incorrectly like 95% of the time, to the point that using it correctly will mostly confuse people.
They said in another video and they are focusing on puzzles that are more complex and line up with the game mechanics. But they said they have in game hints you can locate with your camera or journal if you are not a puzzle person.
Story driven games sit perfectly at that 15-20hr mark.
Anything more than 15 hours is worth the 70 price

@@eionbowen7904 While the Wolfenstein games had no fisticuffs that I recall, Riddick had some of the best first person melee around, so it doesn't come out of nowhere.
I'm sorry Matty, but complaining about puzzles is antithetical to being an Indiana Jones fan. How can you appreciate an Indiana Jones game without intriguing puzzles and investigation? That is literally what Indiana Jones was built on.
The first sequence of Raiders of the Lost Ark was literally all about reading the room and working out the traps and puzzles that Indy had to navigate to 'get the idol.' Not to mention how highly puzzle oriented the Last Crusade was...

A game should rely more on action. As someone who wants replay value, puzzles should be kept to a minimum because every time after the first time they're just a chore.

KCD 2 did the press release very well. They can learn from Warhorse
KCD2s handling of their event recently was excellent. Really has me looking forward to it more. Lots of footage and interviews.
KCD2 is up their with GTA6 as one of my most hyped games i can not wait for them. KCD 1 and RDR2 Blew me away with their worlds so these two have me hyped.

That was a fantastic game. Total surprise when it came out especially it being almost a movie tie-in game, a prequel to Pitch Black.
I can’t wait for this. I hope it’s great. I would like to see a place in Indy’s home or his office where it’s like a walk through like what Tomb Raider did with Lara’s house. A level dedicated to Indy’s treasures collected over the years. Seeing items collected would be awesome.
Gamescom has increased my hype for both Indian Jones and Avowed to new levels 🔥 super pumped
As a reminder, MachineGames was founded by members of Starbreeze who had worked on Chronicles Of Riddick: Escape From Butcher Bay and The Darkness, including Jerk Gustafsson. Between the deeper melee combat and whip use, I'm actually seeing a ton of DNA from both of those games here on top of what they've brought over from their Wolfenstein titles.
The gameplay looked a little wooden in the preview.
I hope it's seamless like in The Darkness and Chronicles of Riddick games.

i’m the kinda guy that refuses to look up answers to puzzles unless i don’t like the game and want to finish it….It took my 3 weeks to figure out one puzzle in The Witness and i have been stuck at 51.2 percent for 2 weeks in Lorelei and the Laser eyes. I don’t just sit there and try to finish it, i play other games and do other shit and come back to it until i finish it. i have not had a game that has stumped me yet luckily
Way me patient then me if it takes me more then 10 l-15 min I'm going to a walk-through

Nope. I was more excited for it after the trailer at Xbox’ showcase than I am now after this preview. Knowing it will be on PS5 doesn’t change anything.
You can play Chronicles of Riddick and immediately understand what they are doing here. I played it recently,it still works and is pretty cool

Well Wolfenstein was made by ID Software that is owned by Zenimax Media that also own Bethesda. But ID Software is a quite old studio that started in 1991. They made a really fun side-scrolling platform video game called Commander Keen. Well this was before they changed name to ID Software. First they where called Ideas from the Deep, what ID is an abbreviation of.
1>It's officially id, not ID. As in the Freudian psychoanalytic term for part of the ego. Not an acronym, not pronounced "eye-dee".
2>Machine games did the most recent Wolfenstein reboot games, that's what Matty was referencing.
3>They're all owned by Microsoft now, not Zenimax. As are, incidentally, Raven software, who did the 2009 Wolfenstein game & Quake 4 before becoming part of the COD sweatshop.
Being able to change the puzzle difficulty is a major green flag. I love a challenging brain teaser in these kinds of games, but when it comes to combat it’s not that I want to breeze right through it, but I don’t want to get too hung up on what are supposed to be exciting action-y moments.
I agree, I don’t tend to mess with difficulty sliders myself but I’m happy to see them. Whatever enables more people to enjoy games how they want to is a win in my book.

PS5 Pro seems like a bad idea to me. Just going to dilute the jump to next gen when that comes around. Xbox One X and PS4 Pro were a mistake too.
I like a good puzzle. Key word, _good._ I detest convoluted puzzles that don't make any logical sense, like Resident Evil games. I like it when puzzles are just hard enough that I have to think for a minute, look around, and consider both how things work mechanically, and the final result that would likely work.
I loathed the sort of puzzles that force you to mess around with all sorts of random junk on the off chance it'll do something or other hours later or what have you. 'Put this random piece of junk in your (limited) inventory so you can put it on some seemingly unrelated object a dozen rooms away which will trigger a hidden door in a completely different place to unlatch that you'll have to find by searching around.
Basically, if a puzzle requires tedious trial and error, and/or a lot of tedious schlepping around? That's just an annoyance as far as I'm concerned.
Regardless, I can certainly understand why a lot of people might prefer to breeze through a puzzle section to get back to the action and story.
It's good to hear this positive review after I had an "oh just do it" moment and pre-ordered the collector's edition

Bethesda needs a decent story based title, and it's good to have another game where the bad guys are the bad guys. As far as I'm concerned, the only "moral grey zone" is when the characters involved didn't have all the information or the ability to react in time, the player deciding doesn't have all the information, or having all the information is literally beyond the person's comprehension ability and makes heads explode, so you'll have decide whether to trust or not trust the person whose head doesn't explode (Kingdom of the Crystal Skull, see how the aliens treat the natives protecting the site...are they in service to the aliens, or trying to prevent the alien menace from being resurrected?)
Mr. Matty - you said the sound effects are awesome and that the punches "sound like gunshots" - are they the same sound effects used in the Indiana Jones movies [which are iconic and legendary]?

Bro what are you talking about? New Order took me 25 hours while New Colossus took me 50 hours... I'm a completionist though and always play on the hardest difficulty available unless there's permadeath and try to get all the trophies but still New Colossus took me double the time
I have the New Order Platinum trophy, cleared it on.. Uber I think the highest difficulty is called.
New Colossus was a whole different animal... That game is hard, and iirc for the platinum it requires not only the hardest difficulty, but the hardest difficulty in permadeath mode... Went back to "normal", cleared it, loved it, put it away. I even have the collector's edition with the BJB action figure, but no way I'm 100% it
@@arcerey I wouldn't say New Colossus is harder than New Order tbh... But as I automatically put the hardest difficulty unless I read permadeath I forgot I wasn't technically playing on the hardest because I played without permadeath and was going for the platnium and thought I was going to get it... So I basically have all the trophies minus the permadeath which really shouldn't be required for a platinum imo and start your collection trophy that glitched but then I have the trophy for having all the collectibles🤦♂️

I was also going to try for the hardest difficulty again, but soon as I read the fine print, I noped out. If Im missing a trophy anyways, might as well miss one or two more and just play it in normal... Kudos to you for clearing the courthouse in Uber, tho. That's got to be the single worst part

If you love fist fighting Matty.. You should Play River City Girls in Retro Rebound! One of the most satisfying niché little games from Wayforward. Super beautiful pixel art, super fun brawller. Can't help but think about the beat em' up when I see Indie bashing people around with his fists!

That game looks good. I had an Indiana Jones game on cpu in 93 with multiple paths, but the puzzles were a real bastard. A point & click adventure
December 9th is release date for Indiana….I love the first 3 indiana jones movies but i wish machine games would have finished the fantastic Wolfenstein trilogy. The 2nd game was masterful

If it were OG Lucasfilm I'd be right there with you. However this is Di$ney's Lucasfilm which is just bad fan fiction. The only reason I'll play it around day one is I have gamepass. If I didn't it's a wait and see the house of mouse has burnt me more than once.

"Our biggest game yet" doesn't mean anything in the gaming industry anymore - it's a generic marketing term that can be used to describe any aspect of the game, not necessarily the scale and scope of the world, and doesn't always equate to longer playtime.
So happy to hear about puzzle difficulty. I love super hard puzzles but understand they cant be in alot of games for those who don't.
Can`t wait for this game! I absolutely LOVED "The Emperors Tomb" but I got stuck and never went back to it. I couldn`t get past the part where he has to swing thru the air duct and I kept constantly getting sucked into the fan. I should really go back and complete the game. Anyways, thanks for the video 👍😉

I’m excited, but I’m very curious to see how it actually plays. I think the whole thing is gunna hung on how the whip feels to use and how organic it is to switch back and forth, whether or not you can get into a flow. We shall see.

Stealth and puzzles? I was unsure about this game but this might be up my alley, I like stealth and puzzles.
I was never excited about this game, but since it's coming to PS5 next year, I'll wait until it goes on sale, and I'll try it out. I just hope it's good.

it sounds like you didn't do your research by playing the older indiana jones games, which are exactly the same formula as this one.
Matty I really think you need to play for Retro Rebound The Chronicles of Riddick Escape from Butcher Bay. That game is pretty much what I am expecting Indiana Jones to be, complete with true first person character and third person for some interactions. Machine Games is made up of former Starbreeze employees, the people who made Riddick, and Mr Gustaffson himself worked on those Riddick titles.
Ngl The Emperors Tomb looked way more fun than anything I’ve seen the Great Circle 😂

Matty, in regards to the puzzles difficulty it should be a positive since it will make the game more engaging instead of just the usual collect 3 items and slot them in.
I heard this was an xbox exclusive so i never watched a trailer so i didnt get disappointed. I heard this morning its coming to ps5 so i watched the trailer and this video now im excited!

It looks like a weird fit for MachineGames. I am not a huge fan of the art style and the first person perspective but some of the recent trailers turned me around on it at a little. That kind of uninspiring preview really lowers the excitement again 😅

@@issahumpsI agree. Watching that extended cutscene with Indy and his lady companion on the ship in the ice all I could think about is how much I wanted to be interacting in that action sequence. It's just a tease to do it that way. I bet when the entire setpiece is over you finally take control as a player and get to walk to high adventure!

Hopeful about this game. This is my favorite movie series & I loved every tomb raider & uncharted bc of it. I have concerns with it being a 1st person, but hand to hand & some shooting definitely feels like it is a good fit. I have seen them using the whip A LOT. I just hope it is not done EXCESSIVELY as that is his trademark, but he used it SPARINGLY. My other concern is how crazy machine games can be from a narrativelly. Going into space to shouldn’t be a part of anything Indiana Jones. “Why’d to be snakes…lol?” Thnx for the preview.

Movie tie-in videogames are more miss than hit.
There are a couple different types of licensed games, and Indiana Jones is a modern bigger budget one. The old era of small, licensed shit has past us and this is also not a GameMill game.
The type of licensed games I'm referring to are things like Midnight Sons, Spiderman 1+2+Morales, Jedi Fallen Order / Survivor, Battlefront 2, Outlaws. But we do have big misses like the Avatar thing, Avengers from Crystal Dynamics, and yeah. This already seems to be one of the better ones, but let's wait, I think it'll be special.
There are great ones out there. The James Bond games on ps2 in particular are great.
