interesting fact: the music in the second area of Santa Claus saves the Earth samples the break from the song "New Orleans" by Nat Adderly.
Holy shit, the Grinch is apparently the strongest guy in the world, mad-scientist levels of genius, and can run, jump and sneak better than anyone. The game may be terrible, but the player character is a huge badass compared to the source material. Kinda like Noah in Bible Games.

It rarely happens that a game sucks out my excitement for video games completely. Why is there a game "based" on the movie Elf?
A publisher bought the rights to develop a game based on the license for absurd amounts of money, gave these to their worst team, only a few weeks of development time with no support from the movie studio and then everyone complained that it sucks. I'm not even sure who to blame here.

I was going to ask if anyone in the Vinesauce chat had actually told Vinny about Rick Dangerous during that playthrough. Thankfully that ended up being the case. He got to see how unforgivingly hard the game series is firsthand.
Also, in case anyone didn't know, the announcer in The Grinch is the voice of George Lowe. Honestly, I feel bad for him for having voiced in this game.

I was gonna say, the script is terrible but the music and narrator both do their jobs surprisingly well. I'd even go so far as to say that the environment is reasonably Seussian-looking, at least insofar as you could possibly expect from a PS1-era game.
Pity about the rest of it.

It's not like all movie-based games are bad.
Look at the Harry Potter RPG games on Game Boy Color and Game Boy Advance.
Those were absolutely fantastic games, especially Chamber of Secrets and Prisoner of Azkaban. The music was amazing, the gameplay was fun, and it was true to the movie with parts that strayed off just enough to be fun yet fitting.
Once you have all the cards, there's really no point in playing the game anymore
Yuri Raslov But you can only get all the cards by playing the game multiple times, and when you DO have all the cards, you can replay the game and get more level ups and more spells, card attack combos and gear, and because of how fun the game is, this definitely adds to the replay value.
Don't forget the Ghostbusters game.
Honestly, I think it's the best movie game. The bar's not set very high, but it's everything a Ghostbusters game needs.
Believe it or not, the Spongebob Squarepants Movie game was damn good too, the first one of course, the new one is trash.
The 64th Shadow Chronicles of Riddick was awesome, the movies were ok, but the games were great, at least Butcher Bay was.

The song in Santa Claus Saves the Earth kinda reminded me of Big Bright Beautiful World from Shrek the Musical. In Dangerous Christmas, I know I saw something you could select that said 'controls' which I'm sure would have let you know how to shoot and drop bombs and stuff, but you never bothered. "Objective unclear" in the Grinch game? The objectives were on the checklist that popped up at the start of the level which I am guessing you didn't even bother reading before going back to gameplay.

Man, Nintendo's a beasty of extremes. On the one hand, you get Mario, Pokemon, Zelda, Contra, and other diamonds, then you get games like this, which are like mining for 8 hours and only coming back with dirt (cobble's too classy for this scene) and some fall damage...
Shrek 2 on the GCN is pretty good if you have a friend or two.
My sister and I played that game all the damn time when we were younger, and loved it. I played it recently about 6 months ago with a friend, and it wasn't as good as I remember it, but it was a fun enough to keep us interested for about an hour. An alright beat 'em up, 6/10
I ended up playing the game with my friends, and we actually still do every now and again when we hang out. The game is a little on the broken side but also worth a damn.

That hihat isn't actually off time. It's just way too loud and the decay takes to long. It's actually very common to have an open hihat at a 16th before the closed one, but it sounds like shit if the closed one doesn't cancel out the open one.

The Grinch looks like it runs on the same exact same engine as Gex and Soul Reaver. I thought the cutscenes at the very beginning of Soul Reaver was a bit slow but The Grinch triples that in both length and quantity it seems.

The only good Christmas games I can think of at the top of my head are the Kyle Hyde DS games, Hotel Dusk and Last Window.
They aren't "bashing you over the head Santa games" but rather have a little bit of Christmas cheer in the background of their plots. They're worth checking out!

I've played The Grinch. Gaming at its finest.
Joel played the PS2 version of Santa Claus Saves the Earth in his Christmas stream and it is way more stressful than the GBA version.
I can see how the designers of Santa Claus Saves the World thought the hat effect fit, and it sort of does, but it just wasn't used all too well. Would have sounded better if the hat wasn't even there. In some cases an early hat does work, but in this game you are correct it does feel a little odd.
