Phil Keaggy is such an underrated guitarist. He's really one of the best guitarist of all time but he's largely forgotten because he doesn't make mainstream music.
Stan Denski What a stupid thing to say! You can’t get past your hatred and appreciate the musician? Wow! I guess if he was singing about Satan you’d be ok with THAT, right?
Stan Denski Aye Stan, I understand what your saying. Videos like these, which there are plenty of don’t mention God at all. Cut and paste: Phil Keaggy The Reunion into your youtube search.
An anointed and skillful guitarist. And a very melodic music as well. One doesn't get tired of listening to Mr. Keaggy's guitar music. Thanks Mr. Keaggy for sharing your music. And thanks to LR Baggs.
Such a beautiful sounding guitar played by an inspiration to us all. Thanks Phil for the years of dedication you've put in. It's amazing how far love can take you.
what a wonderful treat for my heart ,my eyes, and ears this man as he displays his God given talent. it's said that music soothes the savage beast,it's completely true, what a blessing this is to my soul !!
First saw Phil, I’d say 1980, at an Orlando Jesus fest, hitch hikin’ from south Miami. The stoners that were kind enough to pick me up, spaced out at the fork in the rd, that would’ve taken them to the panhandle, instead of Jacksonville; you know, where the road splits, goin north. Broke and busted, with my last quarter in hand, walked up to the gates, and the woman there said, admission is 5 dollars.” I said “all I have is a quarter,” she said, “come on in.” Had my first guitar with me, as i do today, met a lot of people, but kept close to a few. They were extremely kind helpin me out with a broken string. I was only 17, and i could see they were concerned about keepin an eye on me. Phil was premiering his new album “Philip Side.” He was playin a les paul at the time. More on my travels another time. All around, Phil is the greatest guitarist thats ever played.
These kinds of videos always make me laugh. Phil Keaggy could demo a $20 Barbie guitar and make it sound like a million bucks. It's not the guitar, it's the man playing it!
Is the .090 ribbon transducer thinner than the .120 transducer? I'm assuming that refers to an active under saddle pickup? I have a custom shop Martin which I set up perfectly, and I want the thinnest under saddle pickup possible. Thanks.
The one Phil's Olson is out of production but there is an updated version available called the LR Baggs Anthem. It's a wonderful system that sounds pretty identical to Phil's. I have it installed in my Taylor 214ce and I highly recommend it!
NO! Phil Keaggy does NOT use the Anthem. He's tested out several pickups for Baggs over the years, and you can find videos of all of them, but that does not mean he uses them in his own rigs. He used a Fender M1 with his first Olsen. He used a Baggs Micro Duet system (comes with a mini-mic and under-saddle pickup) for almost 2-decades. Currently he's using the LB6, but we don't know what mini-mic he's using with it.
Incidentally, obviously they've left on the vocal mic in this video, so it's picking up the guitar. This video is useless when it comes to judging the sound of the pickup system.
As you noted, Phil had an LB6 in his first Olson (two "O"s!), dating from the mid/late 1980s. When he used the Fender M1 mic with it, he also used a Sunrise soundhole pickup-a three-transducer setup! For details about his old setups, see this web page (it's old-mid-90s): www.museweb.com/ag/amp/pros.html#Keaggy Nowadays he's simplified things, but despite the multiple generations of pickups Baggs has produced, he still likes the ol' LB6. My dim recollection re: the duet is that Baggs sold it with a different pickup (maybe their Ribbon?), but they modified it for Phil to use with the LB6. But I'm not sure about that. I suspect he's using whatever mic element came with the duet.

All the Jesus gets tiresome for us non believers, that's true.
samme79 yes, but he does use a lot of different guitar tunings. It’s a lot harder to play using standard tuning in classical and modern guitar pieces
Stan Denski how can Christ, the saviour of the world and prince of peace, be tiresome. You won’t say that when He returns in glory and lightning 🌩

I've seen Phil many times since 1974, and I'm still blown away by how easy he makes it look.
Phil is a Real Guitar Virtuoso!
An absolute master. His playing brings tears to my eyes.
Simply the best sounding and looking guitar in the whole wide world.

I love the obvious pleasure that show on your face as you play,

Best ever man
that olson sounds like a gibson electric hollow body--- warm sounding
Phil doesn’t play with theory. He uses his ears and his heart
Great guitarist
Jesus!
No one else can move their fingers quite like that
I just listened to a Batson and a Macpherson (spelling?) and this Olson sounds better even thought it does not use the new technology of the others.
Whats the song called?

I'd prefer no looping, you're to dam good for it.I want to gear your, amazing technique.
Mmmm... guys, the guitar brand is Olson, not Olsen....
Does anyone know what song Phil is playing?
Metamorphosis
Yes, Metamorphosis from the album Acoustic Sketches en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Acoustic_Sketches
whats the tuning on this?
I'm sorry, is there someone who knows what mic he use inside the guitar?

+Matthew Montgomery do u think one can get close to this sound using lb6+ dual source?

Eight thumbs downs... the eight who believe they are better guitar players than Keaggy is...
The word underrated is greatly overrated.
