Explanation: if you put a part under a rocket engine like what Matt did in this video, the rocket won't move because the thrust goes nowhere, like pushing a car from the inside.
I'm pretty sure in ksp 2 you will have randomly put beards and mustaches to kerbals (and you can rename them) so with enough luck you will be able to get the exact Matt kerbal in ksp 2
If I didn't know better, I'd say that Matt's editors are conspiring against him. They always seem to make him appear so incompetent... by accident, of course.
In KSP, parts don't so much attach to each other as the parts fly in close formation together. More parts, more calculations of physics, more wiggle, more kraken.
Each section of the "snake" needs slightly more thrust than the one below it. That will keep it straight and keep the lower stages from crashing into the upper stages and blowing the whole thing up.
Really, only the top most section would need more thrust than the rest. This alone will be enough to keep the entire snake in tension, and thus prevent the into-self-crashing, although you would need to be somewhat careful with your launch sequence to make sure the tension doesn't change too rapidly.
The saddest part is that one segment of the "mega snake" would've probably made it to space on its own, without any upside-down-tri-coupler-shenanigans.
I love your KSP videos RCE! so here, auick tips: - Enable " advanced tweakables" in the configuration menu so you can use autostrut for no rocket wobbliness (right click any part you have placed and hit autostrut: heaviest part) - You can put as many octogonal struts as you want in a fuel tank and strap engines to them, so you can have maybe 33 engines in the bottom of one big fuel tank
To make a high and snake-like rocket you must distribute the weight downwards and the thrust upwards, meaning that the most weight is at the bottom and the most thrust is at the top. It doesn't need to be a big difference but you surely can't have the same of each at each end. You either have to put a little more thrust at the top than at the bottom (it has to be reduced gradually going down) or you have more weight at the bottom than at the top (also has to be reduced gradually but going up this time) otherwise the snake will fold on itself and go crazy instead of going straight up
KSP part attachment is functionally a tree -- every part has one "parent" part, but can have many "child" parts. So flipping over your tri-couplers does allow you to make it LOOK like the structure is connected to both tanks above it, but the tri-coupler will only ever attach to one part "above" it.
I have an idea! When you start your snake make sure that the thrust is distributed from the top down. I mean so that the rocket on top always has more thrust than the one below it, but just by a small amount. If that all makes sense lol
I've got about 2k hours in KSP and these vids are among my favorites. On a side note another game you might like is Satisfactory, you can build so many bridges in that game.
As a fairly dedicated KSP player this video was amusing and horrifying in equal measure… I can’t even begin to imagine the chaos Matt would wreak in KSP2 (which incidentally is only a month away from early access release!)
He will just architect it up I suspect. There is a reason he makes roads and not rockets. ...Hmm, where does he work? Just asking so I can... avoid any bridges in that region. Not saying I don't trust his building ability or anything but... yeah. Okay. I am.
The mouth was pretty impressive. Some engines are meant to be used in vacuum only, such as the Poodle. If Vac. thrust is much higher than ASL thrust, then it is one of those engines. Changes made on platform/runway such as staging, max. thrust, break power, etc. will only apply to that one launch. They will not be saved when you revert to VAB/SPH. If you do those changes while in VAB/SPH, then they will be saved for any subsequent launch. You cannot attach boosters to two decouplers. Everything attaches only at one place/node (fuel ducts and struts are exceptions). Attach booster to decoupler slightly higher than the middle of the booster (so that the booster's top will be pushed away from the rocket when decoupled) and then strut both the top and the bottom of the booster.
Hey Matt, a few suggestions: First, you're putting floor below your engines, so your engines are basically doing nothing. To make them actually do work, they needs to be outside of your rockets. Second, putting engines in every segment of your worm isn't the most stable, I would put all my engines on the top segment, so that they basically drags the entire snake up. It's kinda like a noodle. A noodle can be lifted up but not pushed up cuz it will just bend over.

Really? For me, it doesn't make me question why he's no longer a practicing engineer. Granted, its mechanical/propulsion/rocketry/etc engineering vs a civil engineering knowledge base. But understanding basic load distribution is like a prerequisite to most engineering fields. It's needed for bridges!... which casts suspicion to the validity of his bridge reviews.
4:50 yeah technically (if you do an optimal flight) you could get this thing to orbit with all that ∆V... I’m shit at explaining things but I’ll give it a go: Multi-connecting parts don’t connect to more than one connection when placed, so triconnectors will only connect to the first part and then you have to connect something directly do it (snapped) otherwise you have to strut them together. Think of it as the game can only figure out parts in a line or diverging lines. Trying to connect the end of two lines together requires strutting.
