Should have never been hired. This program has got to get out of the shadow of Bob Stoops. This is an SEC school now. When Thad Turnipseed was let go a year into his tenure here I knew we could be in a situation like this. Way too much emphasis on the recapturing past prestige and glory instead of focusing on the future. No more internal hires. No more hiring friends. Every single hire should be validated by past success on the field in a playcalling and offensive recruiting capacity. Frankly Bill Bedenbaugh should be out. This is as much of his failure as anyone. He has missed on every single guy he has brought in except the ones that are injured. His OL is physically incapable of winning 1o1s. They get beat more often then not. They don't pancake or scare anyone. Demarco's RBs have gotten worse every year they were here. OC names to watch for: James Coley - WR & Co-OC at Georgia (maybe) Zach Kittley - OC/QB coach at Texas Tech (likely) Kade Bell - OC/QB coach at Pitt (possibly) Andy Kotelnicki - OC/QB at Penn State (very unlikely)
You aren’t saying letting Thad go is why we are here are you? I saw someone else with this ridiculous take yesterday. Seth’s coaching experience was such that it did make sense and people acting like keeping continuity with a former HC and a former OC that was already on staff and had ALL of the position coaches they have had on staff for multiple top 10-15 offenses it made sense. Acting like this was an obvious bad decision isn’t fair nor accurate. It’s easy to say something like that now but it made sense to MOST people, not just BV. BV has made great hires and people acting like 1 hire makes BV a bad HC is just ridiculous. Every CEO or someone who runs a large organization makes hiring mistakes that on paper and past experience makes sense but for whatever reason they can’t replicate past successes. I love it when fans act like if they had the reins they would make the right decision 100% of the time. That’s just not reality and it’s just not real life. BV has some work but there are a lot of fans that are ignoring everything BV has done and are allowing our offensive situation cloud their perception on the job BV is doing. The offense can flip easily in one off season to the point we are competing in every game and can legitimately win every game that we play. It’s one side of the ball and based on Seth’s coaching experience, he SHOULD have been able to make this work. There could be plenty of problems going on behind the scenes that made this job impossible for Seth and it’s about those people and not even Seth as the biggest issue but getting rid of Seth was optically the o key choice. No one had a crystal ball and there isn’t anyone who thought it would be a disaster like it is, even the people that didn’t want to hire Seth didn’t foresee this happening.
Why didn’t they just demote Seth since he’s a sooner legend? Back to fullbacks or whatever. Seems like they could have found a spot for him still on the staff
Yes it’s long but you might learn something if you read;0) The people that think it’s not possible that BV can make a good hire isn’t looking at facts and just making irrational emotional takes. First let’s take two hall of fame coaches in Dabo and BS as examples. They both were in similar situations. Some were even talking about both of those guys had just lost the touch and couldn’t do it anymore. Both of those guys made changes at the OC position and both of them turned things around. If you are someone out there that doesn’t think BV is smart enough or capable of making a good coaching hire, Grant Benson talking to you, are just frustrated and throwing crap up against the wall. He was required to keep DM, BB, JJF on staff. He made one hire which was at OC and that hire produced a top 15 offense each year he coached. Did we forget that hire? He has made only one other hire outside of Seth and that was at the WR coaching position and He just might be the best recruiter on that side of the ball. Look at ALL of his defensive hires. Not a ONE SINGLE ONE has been a bad choice. Even bringing Ted on obviously was the right decision and then bringing Alley to follow him up was exactly BV’s plan and it worked. So let’s look at ALL of the facts before the simple minded analysis of the situation is thrown out there. No reason to overreact. BV has to pivot and he is. Do you people expect a HC have a 100% hit ratio on all of their hires? If so you’re an idiot. Do you think the most successful HC’s of all time have never made a bad coaching hire? Look at the two hall of fame coaches I used as examples. EVERYONE MAKES HIRING MISTAKES. Every single person in this world that has been responsible for hiring people have ALL made hiring mistakes. Let’s not hold BV to expectations that are that unrealistic that he’s the first person in history expected to be perfect. it’s how you handle those issues is what’s important and what makes a great HC. Being perfect should never be a prerequisite. Expecting a first time HC to not make mistakes is unrealistic expectations. Geez let’s at least give BV a chance to show us what he is capable of by how he handles this situation moving forward. Then sure, give him hell if it doesn’t work but at this point to me it’s all very premature to go there already. Is it frustrating? Yes. Is it all time bad? Yes. Is it BV’s fault that it’s bad? No it’s not. Is it BV’s responsibility to make sure he hires someone who’s capable? Yes it is. That’s Simple and should be something the simple minded can grasp. You can’t micromanage your staff. Stoops has said he never once got in the way of what the OC did. He may say we need to run the ball these last 5 minutes but he lets his guys do the job he hired them to do. It’s BV’s responsibility to find someone capable of doing that. It’s not BV’s responsibility to be sitting over the guys as they work. He doesn’t have time for that. You hire the best people you can and you manage them accordingly. If it gets to the point of micromanagement then it’s time for a change and BV is doing exactly that. You shouldn’t expect anything more than that and you definitely shouldn’t be throwing dumb takes out there that BV isn’t capable of making good hires. Facts and reality say that couldn’t be more wrong. We get rid of BV like some think we already should, then what guarantees do you have that the next hire will be the right one? You don’t and programs that start doing so start going backwards and end up in a bad cycle when they start making premature fires when at the first site of obstacles people start firing and hiring. You must believe in BV until you shouldn’t. BV has t reached the shouldn’t part yet. At least give him that. He made a hire that 99% of people thought would be sufficient. It wasn’t and BV is making a change because it wasn’t. What more could you realistically expect from him?
I've watched many player interviews since Seth's firing. Not ONE said they felt responsible or felt bad that their coach was gone. It seems transfers don't really have OU DNA in them.
I know you guys are aware but has JJF ever called plays ?! So he knows he’s gone at season end along with Murray . If Venables doesn’t fire them, he’s gone next year with them
Joe John and Demarco should be let go as well. Letting these guys stay on is like pooping your pants and changing your shirt. Sawchuck hasn't been developed and Barnes runs the ball like we need 1 yard to score.
Oklahoma is a much better team than they appeared to be this past Saturday vs SC. I’m a Carolina fan and while I was ecstatic to get the emphatic win, I will be pulling for OK vs MS. I think this game comes down to turnovers. You guys have the defense to hold MS to less than 20, maybe less than 14. Can you get a defensive turnover that sets you up for an easy score? I think that gives you a chance to win.
"This is the best interior DL we've face with monster DEs and you better not run straight at them'' 😂🤣😂🤣So, we WILL run straight at them and we already lost this game something over 30 to 6...if we can even score 6. No need to waste 3hrs of my Saturday. Got it.👍
Honestly, I’ve been watching ou football since the 90s and I barely know anything about Seth, other than the typical he played there and won a title. I don’t remember anything special in that game. Literally all the talk is what former players/coaches say about him. However there’s not much bragged on from the current players and himself direct at the podium as of late. There’s not some massive lift of the program and its players over years or decades. Kind of weird.
If you pay attention look at all the diversity in teams there is not one team that is dominant every game, that's because of nil and the transfer portal. And it's not going to change, it's here to stay, I like it.
Wish Bowman wouldn’t have started poking at Jaxon Dart on X. We were already very likely to get blown out. Ole Miss didn’t need more reason to embarrass us. Great.
Unfortunately, effort and physicality or lack thereof I guess, is what has really become a problem on the OL. Screw technique and all of that if the effort to play your best isn’t there. Watching our guys play like they have stopped caring has been the hardest part of this to watch for me. Being an ultra short basketball player who played college ball, not playing with effort and passion is just something I personally was never able to put on any court or field I’ve ever been on and it makes me sick. There are so many of us that grew up dreaming of playing at OU and to see guys have that opportunity that you dreamt of but you see them waste that opportunity it just makes me angry to have guys who have stopped caring. Don’t tell me they care either. If you care you play all out. If you don’t care, you don’t. It’s that simple and our guys have stopped caring g. I just want to see guys who care trot out onto the field on Saturday and I could care less where they are at with the understanding of the offense and playing technique sound football. I just want guys who are going to give it everything they have from the first whistle to the last. That’s what we are missing more than anything. One thing I know for sure? It’s not working with the guys who have been playing so get some of the young kids out there regardless of where they are mentally. Will they go all out and have they earned it during that week of practices. If so then replace whoever has been playing in front of them and let’s at least start seeing some heart and effort and passionate play out on the field. Anyone who is jogging around and not even making an effort to slow a guy down much less actually block them, shouldn’t see the field again this year. The weak mental makeup of our offense is just so disgustingly embarrassing.
22:14 hey I’d much rather play against great DTs instead of DEs like South Carolina so there’s no chance we got any of our TEs blocking them lol. Might force them to run off the edges instead of up the middle too
Firing him is a way for him to be able to get another job. I think Ikard is too close to the prior players and needs to decide who it is now he supports more, current or past players. If current coaches are not developing or shortchanging them who needs to change.
I’m pulling for Oklahoma over Ole Miss for two backstabbing reasons. First , Walter Nolan , Played his high school football in Knoxville. Matter of fact his high school team beat my high school in the State Championship Game. Second ,, LANE KIFFIN. Did to the Vols what Lincoln Riley did you y’all . Ole Miss is the team of backstabbers . GO GET EM !!!
Make a decision of courage to have sacrifice and discipline, and most importantly take responsibility for the Oklahoma Legacy that you helped get fired
Going back to a very talented quarterback sounds good but Arnold makes bad decisions. He tends to just do stupid things that just wreak havoc on the offense!
JA or MH haven’t had time to make good decisions. Wolithout really any experience it has to be stressful as Ann OU QB right now and young players play fast as it is and when they get pushed this fast? They just haven’t had the experience to process things as fast as they are getting pushed. We have gotten worse on the OL as our guys have gotten healthy. Do you think that maybe they have pushed a couple of these guys to play through their injuries beside the lack of depth and experience and the reason they look so bad is because basically they are in that bad of shape? Then that affects you mentally and emotionally as well. If your at 80% and that’s not good enough but your basically forced to play I can see why someone could get frustrated to the point of eliminating their effort. If they’re going to lose their battles giving everything they e got them why play that hard? I never thought that way I’m just saying I’ve seen guys do that and when you have sexton looking like he could care less, there has to be a reason because we know the guys cares and has always gone all out. He looks like he’s giving about 10% and that doesn’t make sense knowing how he played previously even as a freshman when we got excited about him. Something mentally and emotionally is going on and that’s obvious to me. How it got that bad i have my thoughts but when players stop playing the game then there are more issues that should deserve deeper concerns. Something is severely wrong.
We hear ya. But it's not about the money. Seth bleeds crimson and cream. No one feels worse about how things went than him. We can guarantee you that. Hoping these players realize how real this all is and go out and play with great effort.

You forgot Cayden Green to Missouri. It’s the responsibility of coaches to retain that talent. Losing the offensive linemen to the portal was the mortal blow to this team. That falls on Littrell and Bill B. Bill B needs to go as well.
BV in Oakley blades and eyeblack! Love it!
In the winners and losers of the week segment, I don’t understand why Gabe & Teddy didn’t name OU following the Texas and South Carolina game.
Same reason home team analysts never pick the opposing team to win.
You finally upgraded your ad reads by displaying the actual sponsors as I suggested a year ago. Looks and feels more professional as it should. This podcast/youtube channel is too good to have those old, Busch League ad reads.
Still gotta crap O'line. Still got our top 6 receivers out. ANY OC would struggle with this situation. I don't care who they replace littrel with, i don't expect to see much of a change or improvement. If anything, when are we going to start asking when Bedenbaugh is gonna be on the hot seat?
We keep adding WR’s to the injured list? How did we get up to 6?

The Oklahoma Breakdown criticized fans like me last year who were critical of the lazy hire for OC last year. I think we all had a point, that we should have done a real search and looked for the best OC we could get that was proven. Hopefully the Oklahoma Breakdown can admit we were right, and they were wrong in this case.
That said, these guys are great at what they do, highly knowledgeable, just missed this one.
If we dont spend real money in the portal for the best available players like Ole Miss and others we just wasting our money and scholarships.
Christmas came a day early!!!
I really wasn’t expecting my tweet about Brent not wearing a hat to be discussed on the show so needless to say I had one hell of a story to tell at work today lol
Well if BV manages to beat Ole Miss we might have just got Lane Kiffin fired and can talk to him about the OC opening we have here at Oklahoma.
Lol what? Kiffin will not get fired and he’s going to be the next head coach at Florida

A center as OC. You should be fired for that suggestion.
It would be a novel concept for us to make the DL and LB have to move side to side. We haven't shown the play design to actually make them run sideline to sideline

Forget for a minute the change in Oklahoma going up against SEC players week to week . I’d like your perspective on going up against SEC coaches every week . What do you think overall about the quality of head coaches and coordinators vs the same in the Big 12?
SEC is overrated and not better than big 12.

I'm a fan and a big sooner fan so I could care less if it was my mom that got fired. I know injuries can derail a team but 12 points in two weeks and you couldn't come up with an identity against Texas was the icing on the wall. Bv is next in all honesty
The best OCs in recent history for the Sooners have been Leach, Wilson and Riley and guess what? Stoops didn’t know any of them personally and none had a connection with OU…BV take note and go grab the best OC you can…screw the OU connection

I don’t think anyone expected offense to be this bad under Littrell’s watch. He seems like a good dude and I hope he lands on his feet somewhere but dang he was in over his head.
We (Ole Miss) actually don't have A&M this year. I wish we did for strength of schedule.
Gotta muster up something offensively… BOOMER!!!
OC names to watch for:
James Coley - WR & Co-OC at Georgia (maybe)
Zach Kittley - OC/QB coach at Texas Tech (likely)
Kade Bell - OC/QB coach at Pitt (possibly)
Andy Kotelnicki - OC/QB at Penn State (very unlikely)
Agreed
Please no more air raid OC hires.
Couldn’t agree more, I would like to see more of a pro style.
@DedHedRy no I didn't say that moron nor am I reading anything else you wrote because you're clearly an idiot.
Running at 210 vs 285,
"Please, don't screw that up" lol
Why didn’t they just demote Seth since he’s a sooner legend? Back to fullbacks or whatever. Seems like they could have found a spot for him still on the staff
So can someone tell me why we don't run a spread offense in the back field to block to give Arnold time to throw?
It's going to be another loooooong Saturday .
Yes it’s long but you might learn something if you read;0)
The people that think it’s not possible that BV can make a good hire isn’t looking at facts and just making irrational emotional takes.
Nailed it.
1-9 against top 25, I cant understand why anybody would want more of this. Totally unprepared and undisciplined football team
People cheer for losers these days.
I've watched many player interviews since Seth's firing. Not ONE said they felt responsible or felt bad that their coach was gone. It seems transfers don't really have OU DNA in them.
Firing littrell and moving Finley up is like pooping ur pants and only changing ur shirt!
How many times can you regurgitate the same comment? TH-cam, X, it's constant. Over and over, I see your same comment.
Like an 8 year old. Get a laugh keep repeating it.
Totally Agree
I've seen that saying like 4 times this week lol. I don't know who said it first but everyone is using it now
Oklahoma is a much better team than they appeared to be this past Saturday vs SC.
"This is the best interior DL we've face with monster DEs and you better not run straight at them''
😂🤣😂🤣So, we WILL run straight at them and we already lost this game something over 30 to 6...if we can even score 6. No need to waste 3hrs of my Saturday. Got it.👍
I thought that I’d get the opportunity to post “first” but somehow 9 people beat. Lol
If you wanna know the mood of Bama fans if they lose, watch the Finebaum show. Great stuff lol
Mabe the rest of the SeC wouldn't want to see Pavia play college football for 5 more years. LOL
I liked BV, I liked BB, I liked Murray, I liked Seth, even liked JJF, but as coaches they are not good right now
I liked John Blake as a person as well as a player, but he sucked as a head coach.
Barry never wore a hat, check his record
Actually he wore a cap a few times in the 80s. And wore a winter cap in the famous '76 game with Nebraska.
OU's offense is going to struggle no matter what coach they exchange for. Too many concerns for any coach to work with.
If you pay attention look at all the diversity in teams there is not one team that is dominant every game, that's because of nil and the transfer portal. And it's not going to change, it's here to stay, I like it.
Changing OC will fix nothing.
Wish Bowman wouldn’t have started poking at Jaxon Dart on X. We were already very likely to get blown out. Ole Miss didn’t need more reason to embarrass us. Great.
We will destroy ole miss. We put it out on X and the offense will follow through on Saturday. Just wait for it.
How do you get someone on birthday shoutouts?
LSU run defense is 33rd in the nation
Might force them to run off the edges instead of up the middle too
Well unfortunately they play their stud DT’s at DE as well.
@@OK_Breakdown and now I’m back to being scared again
Firing him is a way for him to be able to get another job. I think Ikard is too close to the prior players and needs to decide who it is now he supports more, current or past players. If current coaches are not developing or shortchanging them who needs to change.

They're part of the radio crew. Only "Oh Mama" Toby is more of a homer.
I would not expect much improvement....
They'll probably decline even more.
Going back to a very talented quarterback sounds good but Arnold makes bad decisions. He tends to just do stupid things that just wreak havoc on the offense!
Some of these comments are ahort novels 😂
Is Jackson going to be all confused again?
When has he not been?
I think Seth will be fine with a $2.2MM buyout.
It's actually $2.6M
We hear ya. But it's not about the money. Seth bleeds crimson and cream. No one feels worse about how things went than him. We can guarantee you that. Hoping these players realize how real this all is and go out and play with great effort.
