Is finishing the way Helms did on that second clip something the coaches arent emphasizing or are the players just not doing it despite being coached to? Either way its unacceptable. Thats something that was beat into my head as a tight end in flag football when i was 8.
If they're giving up on the play in game, that means this is what they're doing in practice. What coach in practice doesn't yell their heads off seeing that? Even my little high school coach ages ago would chew us out if we quit before the whistle.
Question for y’all on the first zone insert play: What is the coaching point or aiming point for the back in that situation? Is he reading true zone playside gap then if not there, working to backside cutback, or since there is technically a puller or a lead blocker with the insert player (Sharp) should he be following the insert player through the hole on his hip and popping it that direction? Ted briefly mentioned the idea of Hicks following Sharp, but I don’t know enough to know if that’s what he’s coached to do in that situation
Our blocking woes extend beyond our OL, our TEs and RBs often miss protections, Sawchuck is great at protecting in the pocket...but he gets tripped by a finger on runs. So we sub in the young guys and they run well but miss their blocking assignments in the pass game.
And yet another folly of a performance from teddy Lehman today! I can’t be the only one who sees that Teddy comes to these videos unprepared and unable to say anything intelligent or insightful about our sooner defense.
