This is SO helpful, thank you!! I have been on the fence about buying the 24-70mm or the 50mm but now you've helped me choose the 24-70 and feel confident about it. You're the best!!
i m working with 50mm 1.4 sigma art during the complete session. And i love it . I love the bokeh Other newbornphotographers are working with 35mm. Maybe it is an option for you. :)
Love your videos... thanks for posting them. I use a 24-70 f4 and it's my go to lens for families, headshots, weddings, newborn, etc. Pretty much everything. But I'd love to invest in the 24-70 2.8. Maybe sometime soon. :)
You got your mirrorless :) so happy for you. I will look to see if you did a video on that. I am sure you did. Also happy Belated birthday! Tanya Ndip, I use 50 and notice I have to move back too.
I like the way you wrap the baby, they don't look like they can't breathe. Sometimes it looks like others wrap babies so tight it may constrict their breathing, I've heard the baby making weird noises when wrapped so tightly.
Also when you open your Aperture to 1.8 how do you avoid the lens focusing on one specific point? I did this and found that the eyes would be in focus but not the hands.
At about 12:28 a blurring object started popping up and stayed until 14:50, I'm going to assume possibly an infant partially nude idk maybe TH-cam added it I again don't know.
I'm not quite sure what happened, since I never photograph babies without their diapers. The diapers are always covered with cute outfits or wraps/blankets. I'll look into it!
Your work simply beautiful.you gave great inspiration to go with new born photography.do you please tell me something.where can I get those backdrop s and those decoration s
Heyy Fenna, love your baby photo shots. Currently I have Sony RX100 mk6. Which camera and lens would you recommend for taking baby shots like yours? Which camera/ lens do you use?
This is so helpful. I’ve been doing photography for a while and just getting into doing babies and families. I’ve had one newborn session and a 6 month session with the same baby. He was so awake and crabby during the newborn session and then a little bit spooked by my camera at the 6 month session. If you have any tips for these scenarios I will take them. I can also search if you’ve done videos on these things before. I’ve been watching you for a while now, but haven’t seen them all of course. :)
Thank you. For the newborn session I recommend to take it easy and slow. Make sure you're not in a hurry and neither are the parents. Go for simple poses where the baby is safe and comfortable. Try to 'read' the baby. Make sure he/she is not hungry, not too cold/hot and see if the baby prefers to be on his/her back/side/belly. Maybe try a simple wrap. Some close-up shots of the face, hands, feet, eye lashes. Otherwise have the parents hold the baby and take lovely photos where they're holding their baby. I would definitely recommend everyone starting with baby/newborn photography to first master your camera, learn how to photograph in the Manual mode, practice photographing family. friends, pets, nature etc. So during the newborn/baby session you're not messing with the camera anymore but you can spend all your attention on the baby. I would also recommend anyone to attend a newborn photography workshop where you learn about all aspects of newborn photography and understand poses before you try them. For the 6 month old I recommend using a little toy, sing songs, play peekaboo, have the parents stand behind you etc.
I’ve been using a 35mm 1.8 for my newborn sessions and I really like it! My 50mm always feels a little too zoomed in for my taste and I’m always having to back up.
I'm thinking of getting this too! As well as for birth photography. Do you find you can get those nice zoomed in detail shots with good bokeh or do you need a different lense?
I used a Paloma Schell classic stand and currently a Paloma Schell easy table. Really helps to clip the backdrops to the sides and not have any wrinkles!
I've been thinking about getting to 24-70 since I have the 50mm with my nikon d3400 but with the crop factor I'm not happy with my pictures 😒 I just set up my newborn studio in my house and I've been looking for newborn safety courses, do you offer one? I'm in the US and can't seem to find an instructor I like and understand as much as I do from your videos.
Helpful, as always! Thank you very much for sharing your opinion! I have one question, if you don't mind :) what lens do you use for event photography? (as far as I know you, you do some wedding photography as well) I would be very rateful for your advice!
Thank you! For events (weddings) I would use several lenses. Probably my 24-70 2.8 for the indoor ceremony, 105mm 1.4 sigma art for the photo session with the bride/groom, macro lens for the ring shots and/or maybe the 50mm for the getting ready photos.
I'm starting falling in love with the 24-70 as I watch your videos 😁 must be a very good lens! thank you very much! And I'm looking forward to watching your new videos! Have a nice evening
Oh and I forgot to ask, sorry, how can you deal with white balance with such a fast changing environment during an event? Do you use a white/grey card or just use your eyes?
Usually yes. If they're not relaxed, we take a break and spend some time for a feeding, diaper change or the parents spend some time holding and cuddling their baby until he/she relaxes. Then we continue
Hello, loving your videos, I have just discovered you! Can I ask, where do you get the blankets. The pastel covers over the pillow? And what type of pillow do you use or recommend? Thank you Jamie
Yes, I think that would be a great indoor lens. The 85mm is still on my wish list as well for portraits outside. Would be nice to test them all for a bit, without having to buy them all :)
Hi from West Virginia, US! I was going to ask your opinion on using the 35mm for newborn sessions. Thats what I use. I have a 50mm as well. Good to know your opinion on the 50m.

I've got a newborn photoshoot on 12/7 & you've helped so much. Where can I get the fabric large enough to clip to the round stand?
You got your mirrorless :) so happy for you. I will look to see if you did a video on that. I am sure you did. Also happy Belated birthday! Tanya Ndip, I use 50 and notice I have to move back too.
Not sure if you will see this but I love your videos! Can you tell me what flash mount you’re using?

What is the device that you use to lay the baby on, I struggle a lot with keeping the backdrops smooth

@@FennaPhotography thank you so much. You are amazing and keep up the wonderful work
Do you use a second speedlight other than the one on your softbox for newborn sessions? Thank you!

Love your style and how careful you are with the babies!!
Ahh.. 17 mins is too short 😂 i love your videos ❣️❣️❣️
I use the 35mm. Cause the 50 is abit too tight imo. Guess you can try the 35mm prime.
Yes, I think that would be a great indoor lens. The 85mm is still on my wish list as well for portraits outside. Would be nice to test them all for a bit, without having to buy them all :)
Fenna, Nikon should sponsor you!!!
@@FennaPhotography yeah! Not everyone has a rental place nearby. I have the 35 and 85 combo but I don't have the 24-70. We work with what we have. 😊

Where did you get your camera strap and do you think I could find something like that in Australia?
In your opinion, what is the actual difference between 50mm f1.8 and 50mm f1.2. Thank you
