One thing I've noticed throughout the fandom is whenever there's toxicity, it's always about which movie or adaptation is better, It's rarely ever the comics. I can admit that I used to be an annoying Raimi shill and once I started reading the comics more I stopped caring about the movies and just enjoyed them for what they are. I've met a lot of people who both like the movies and comics and they are really nice people, because they understand that Spider-Man is way more than just 9 movies.
I mean, comics can get toxic too especially when people want to act as if politics have just now been in there or if bad writing wasn't always a problem, people sent death threats over the change to the black suit and the death of Gwen Stacy. Now, people stopped reading the comics so you don't see it as much but it's still there.
I sometimes talk about my friends about which adaptation i think it's better, but i don't really care if they disagree and like you, and just like the movies for what they are and because i love Spidey, but i don't really have any hype for it
‘Spideys my favorite character but I wanna stay far away from the fandom as possible’ you do realize that if Spider-Man is your favorite character, that automatically makes you part of the fandom, right?
@@novabell24 I mean you can be a fan of anything without necessarily participating in the fandom of it. I could just sit around loving the show the mandalorian. I could be a huge fan of it right? But maybe I really never or almost never talk to people online about it because I'm busy with work and my other hobbies and I just enjoy that thing in peace. Maybe I occasionally comment on it or something but I'm not really actively involved with other fans. There's a lot of people like that. I would argue the general public is pretty much like that. They're not involved in groups of fan activities or even making big comments on online all over the place, they just watch the show enjoy it, maybe talk to a friend a tiny bit or no one and then move on to the next thing.
yeah me to i also love spider man and honestly he's the only marvel character that find interesting and I don't hate tom Holland I think he's cool guy but I'm just don't like the msu spider man very much like if you don't like the character in that movie it's fine but don't go attacking the actor it's the real world
Just a thought: Peter in the comics can be quite angry and defensive when he feels threatened/exposed. Rather than being the polar opposite of the character, toxic fans more seem to mimic Peter's flaws, but in dumber ways and less understandable situations.
That's true to an extent but the character also has self-awareness where he's aware of his own flaws and can work through them. We also see him constantly stop himself from doing different things that would be considered immoral or wrong and lashing out at people when he has the upper hand despite the fact that he would get away with it. These actual angry fans don't do that. If they're anything like Spider-Man they'd be one of those weird warped sad looking clones the Jackal made haha.
Jay I think this could go for any subject on the internet. It’s just very toxic all the time now, and it’s crazy that people worship it. Great video, keep going. You are one of my favorite content creators because your honest. Never change that
That sadly true. And everything behaves like a fandom these days. I mean hell even religion and politics behave like they are fandoms lol. It just has a lot to do with groupthink and mob mentality IMO.
The utter irony of Spider-Man fans is that they somehow don't realize that their behavior is completely against everything Spider-Man stands for and that he'd be completely disgusted with how they act towards one another on a daily basis, and I say this as a lifelong Spider-Man fan.
Facts. I hate it when "fans" act as the opposite of what their favorite comic book characters stand for. I mean isn't superheroes as characters meant to inspire?
This part here, with great power comes great responsibility and the things you say have just as much power as any iteration of the wall crawler could ever have
The amount of toxicity I've seen and experienced 'cause I prefer Tom Holland as Spider-Man is absurd. These are fictional characters and they're meant to entertain and inspire us but people are so fucking disgusting. People who harass or even threaten people over the internet over fictional preferences is abhorrent and they should seriously seek out psychological help.
I know. I had a friend who created a MCU Spider Man defense account proving all of the dtractors wrong ( let's be honest, 90 percent of criticisms are usually wrong) and the man everyday constantly gets harassed and bullied bc he had an opinion, or if he just loves making a fan page. Yesterday was his breaking point and he had to disable his account bc of death threats and amounts of bullying. Haven't really talked to him since and hes not gonna be posting for a while. I freaking love MCU Spider Man, but this fandoms just makes it so hard to enjoy.
@@adrianjames5970 This is very similar to my case actually. Even though I love MCU Spider Man I constantly praise the Raimi trilogy for being "the holy trilogy" because thats how I can avoid being attacked right? Truth is I actually think Tobey and his movies are overrated as hell, and I prefer Tom Holland and his Spider Man movies. Now this is just my opinion, but the point is that if you want to be part of a fanbase you have to do what everybody else does: constantly praise and worship things even if you know they have flaws. Say one thing about it or say you like something else more they'll hunt you down. This is why I think the Spider Man and Star Wars fanbases are thrworst fanbases on the internet, because they literally hate their own franchises.
@@obiwankenobi1532 completely agreed. Tobey was a great spidey but those movies feel so fake and forced. I really connect with Tom's Peter a lot more because I was in high school when Homecoming came out and so hes become my favorite version of the character. Unfortunately for me I can't be vocal about my love for it without someone trying to drag me down and tell me I'm wrong because I'm not a super Raimi fan. I've given up trying to be involved with the fan base as a result.
I love all of the spideys in love action, grew up with Tobey's, connected more with Andrew's and liked certain moments of Tom's. I'm particularly more fond of Andrew's but felt he got the short end of the stick when Sony came in messing things up but I typically get shit on alot for saying I prefer him so I don't really talk about my love for a certain iteration cause of that. That's just the internet I guess.
Good for you man! I also like a lot of moments from Andrew's spidey. But I relate to Tom more. When he was refusing to become an "avenger" (growing up) in far from home he thinks he's not up to the task and he's not good enough and he worries about the public's perception of him (social anxiety) and it's further elevated by Nick Fury when he tells him he's not good enough. But at the end of the movie he ends up defeating an avengers level threat by being just himself. He doesn't have to be perfect. In MJ's words "I actually like it better broken"
I think one of the biggest issues is how people just don't know how to read, and this is on both sides. If you praise Andrew's performance, and mention nothing about the movie, people somehow assume you're praising the movie. And if you insult the movie and say Andrew deserved a better movie there are a thousand idiots that read "Andrew deserved better" as "Andrew did bad." It's so exhausting.
@@adrianjames5970 You are actually me sir...Pre fanbase, I did actually think Tobey Maguire was the best Spider Man and Spider Man 2 was great, but I still loved Andrew Garfield and Tom Holland because tgey were still great with the material they were given. Post fanbase Tom Holland became my favourite Spider Man and FFH quickly became my favourite Spider Man movie. But these people are always over praising the Raimi films and are constantly shitting on those who dont like it or the ones that love MCU Spidey (like me) now I just hate this fandom and Tobey Maguire afting finding out how toxic they are. I gained some respect of the Raimi films back and I still love them, but gosh how they ruimed Spider Man for me...
My favorite thing is when an internet person uses a once derogatory word to positively self-identify themselves as it, completely oblivious to what they've just done.
@@aaronrowell2859 nah I think the word's taken a life of it's own. I'm sure there's a decent portion of people who say they stan someone don't actually know where the word comes from

I guess I'm not allowed to like having a conversation or sharing my opinions unless I'm that person specifically. It's okay when he did it though.
@@etabiansosin No but a lot of people have said a lot of mean things about them where if they disagree with the mainstream take they get actual threats against their kids is really messed up.
@@DegenerateJay You should do a Review video on TH-camr Professor Geek. He has some interesting takes on Storytelling, but he can be a condescending prick.
@@DegenerateJay A lot of Anti-SJW's(not all of them) can be pretty toxic and have tendency to tell you that your not a real fan of this product if your a fan of a different version of that said product. For example, some of them will tell you that your not a real Star Wars fan if you support The Sequel Trilogy or your not a real Star Trek fan if you support Star Trek: Discovery or Star Trek: Picard. In their mind's if you support any product that's not The Original Trilogy, The Prequel Trilogy or The Original 5 Star Trek Shows, you'll be deemed as not a real fan of Star Wars or not a real fan of Star Trek. That's dumb. You can be a Star Wars or Star Trek and support all versions of Star Wars and all versions of Star Trek at the same time.
I disagree with the idea of its pointless concealing them, sure there are loads and loads of people who know about tobey maguire and garfield or have at least heard of it but its mostly online and younger people. There are millions of normal fans, movie fans and casual marvel fans who may have no idea of the rumours and leaks and so the surprise for them would be ruined
Not at all, I have a few friends who don’t keep up with the Marvel stuff like hardcore fans and even they’re excited for Tobey and Andrew. Hell, Andrew’s talked about it on countless talk shows that casual fans watch
Being 29, Tobey was what I saw as a kid. Then Amazing came out and I liked it a lot. Then when Tom comes out, before I even seen Homecoming, the war has started. So automatically I had to defend Tobey and somewhat Andrew. I just wish people had just been happy we got more Spidey. I look back and I hated Tom before giving him a chance. He looks like he is a great Spider-Man in this movie and some time I need to go back and rewatch HC and FFH with new eyes. I no longer bash any Spider-Man, I am truly happy to just be a fan now. If we get all 3, that would just be a treat to all fans.
@@obiwankenobi1532 For sure! I went into both thinking he’s Iron Man Jr but after NWH I went back and have seen the growth and can respect the first two as a great origin that Tom has that will lead into another great series now officially his own Spider-MAN. I never understood the criticism for Amazing Spider-Man 2 of having too many villains when Spidey takes on S6 from time to time. Now I like Dane DeHaan as an actor but his Goblin could’ve used more work. Hopefully rumors are true and Andrew will get his trilogy.
Spider-Man is one of the reasons why I always walk on the side of the sidewalk closest to the street whenever I walk with my friends. He’s the reason why I’m protective over the elderly. He’s the one who made me protective over every person in my life in the best ways. He was my father when mine wasn’t around. I’m thankful for this character, he picked us up from our lowest point every time he showed up on the big screen, made a joke in the comics or saved the day. It’s a shame how some fans do the same thing a small percentage of religious people do, rage and rage.
@@dimitrescucrncevic9746 I know, it's just so absurd to me. It's just a fictional character not some sort of God. This and a couple of people are the reason why I don't like Spider Man anymore
Very interested to hear your take on this. I find it amusing how no matter what you like other fans have to find a way online to tear you down about it. Just comes off as very weird and like they should have better things to do imo than police what people enjoy.
Here’s a different take: people are passionate about things they like and enjoy using their free time to interact with other people who have the same passion. When two people have opposing views on something they’re passionate about things get heated, That’s just how humans are, we form deep emotional attachments and will go to great lengths to defend them.
@@nerds-nonsense that’s true, however there are ways of going about it instead of attacking people with threats, racial abuse and disgusting comments etc.
Doesn't this goes for every popular hero fanbase? You can't single out one cluster of fans. Robert Pattinson announcement made fans so much angry at the time (btw, my favorite Batman). Also, there's a clear divison of fans who like Zack Snyder's Batman and those who prefer the no killing code. Just wanna state, they're everywhere. Case in point: console wars.
Spider-Man is my favorite Marvel character of all time. I can relate to him in a way. But I hate the toxicity of the Fandom so much. I've left a few fan groups because the toxicity was overwhelming. My take on Spider-Man is he's someone who will try to do the right thing even when his own personal life is falling apart.
thank god i don't get into the groups at all . I already have a dislike for rick and morty fanboys and i barely can watch the show without thinking, ugh, those fanboys .
i love spiderman. i get so excited every time hes going to appear on the big screen. i fanboy and shill and overanalyze EVERY spiderman trailer and film. doesnt matter who plays him. ill always be grateful for the fact we even get live action spidey films. let alone film made with this much care and at such a scale they can truly bring the art of the comics to life. ill never understand people who hate every version of the character that isnt the perfect reflection of what theyve created in their head.
So many people love Spider-Man and other popculture characters and franchises across all forms of media. The fact that a small groups of fans form vicious, vindictive cults around these beloved icons sickens me. Keep speaking your mind, Jay, and don't let these no-life dorks phase you or your opinions! Much love, brother!
I really, really didn't know this fanbase had a part of it that was so bad. That's mostly because I avoid fanbases and just prefer to enjoy the things I enjoy by myself because of things like this. On a more positive note, Marvel's twitter account here in Brazil dropped a video (I think it was removed but still) where that scene in the trailer with Spidey and all of those villains jumping at each other, and Lizard and Electro are jumping at nobody. The scene in that video was some seconds longer than the one in the trailer, and you can see Lizard randomly getting thrown back by something invisible, as if he was punched by someone. So... terribly kept secret is still terribly kept :p
I really don’t get what leads people to be so toxic over a goddamn fictional character. This is why the internet causes so many problems all over the world. Its too easy to be toxic and just complete and utter bullies with absolutely no consequences. I really wish people would stop going after people for their opinion on things. I feel bad for these people and want to apologise on their behalf. Keep going with your amazing videos Jay and try to ignore the haters, they should have no impact on you or your incredible quality videos. Hope you and Jill are doing okay and staying safe with all the hate going around in the world :)
Because some are inspirational and some are our childhood. So it bothers people when a new interpretation exists to replace theirs as well as feeling alone. There’s many reasons for it. But yes, I agree we all need to relax.
Man I wish I could be more like spider-man, to have shit go wrong in your life constantly yet still keep soldiering on... I prefer Tobey myself, but he was the first spider-man I was exposed to outside of the 90s cartoon. Though my favorite Spider-man overall has to be Spectacular spider-man, the cartoon. Also with how much you say schway, I'd like to point out Terry is also one of my favorite super heroes bar none, and a proper Batman beyond game is long overdue. Stay Schway Jay!
As huge Spider-Man fan I’m so mad at Sony for rebooting the character again since they already did that with The amazing Spider-Man, No way home is not my favorite anymore cuz of all the toxic argument about which Spider-Man is the best, I want a definitive live action Spider-Man and I wanted to stop
God this fandom. I remember I had people calling me overrated, and not a true Spider-Man fan. This was all because I said I think Spider-Man 2 is good but super overrated and think the first movie is better. To those people if I'm not a true Spider-Man fan how come I know how to try and not hurt people's feelings and you don't? Another time I had people saying to me that Ultimate Spider-Man was placed too high on a Spider-Man cartoon ranking I made in the comments of a video. I mean if they cared so much they could've just made their own lists.
You’re right, I get harassed by these haters, they’re not fans they just hate. Same thing happened to me I called Spider-man 2 overrated and I had these haters call me slurs, I still thought it was a good movie but I just said it’s far from the best Spider-man movie and I got hate. For example I think Tom Holland is the best Spider-man and he’s my favorite and I’ve been called gay, a retard and the n word a few times for saying that and it was from Tobey and Andrew fans, it’s funny cuz all 3 of the live action Spider-man are very similar to one another so If you hate 1 you hate all. I get all this hate because of a fictional character I look up to.
I don’t understand why people are so upset over Tobey and Andrew not being in the trailer. In my opinion, the trailer was really good. Maybe I’m just weird but I’m more interested the villains for the movie and made more sense to show them off in the trailer before the main thing people are expecting to see. I want to see the Tobey and Andrew in the film, but from a business perspective, I can see why they wouldn’t put their biggest surprise in the second trailer
This is how I felt about the Marvel Avengers hate. The game has its problems of course, but the toxicity of people who actually hope and love the character being brought to the game was borderline disturbing. People are so narcissistic and entitled that they deserve something the way they want only. Good take and subscribed :).
I rarely comment online because it seems like I'm speaking to the lowest common denominator; but you nailed it when you said "like it was a religion." People spend so much time online or in front of the tv that their entire lives revolve around entertainment. So fandoms, celebrities and everything else involved has become the new gods of this generation. So Spiderman is just a part of the pantheon of our modern primitive society.
These characters are supposed to inspire people to be better. I’m starting my EMT course next month to be a firefighter and my very specific morals wouldn’t be what they are if it wasn’t for Batman. Spider-Man too. But whenever I see “fandoms” for these characters they’re pathetic and the complete opposite of the characters they stan like creeps. It’s just weird and messed up.
I think that toxic parts of a fandom could make up like 1% of fans. I mean there's got to be at least a 100 million Spidey fans out there. 1% of that would be a million. Still a huge minority but big enough and loud enough that they are noticeable. I think that's the case as in real life I never encounter anyone who has that mentality. Maybe I'll meet someone who's like "Oh you like Spider-Man 3, what's wrong with you?' but that's said in a jokey way. Even then their mentality is "If you like it that's fine. You do you." The internet just makes it easier for all the toxic people to get together. And the healthy people see that and think "I'm not going anywhere near that" so the healthy part of the fandom doesn't have as much representation. And there's all the fans who love something but aren't into fandom stuff. So they watch a trailer, enjoy it then move on with their lives. I guess that's why the likes and dislikes never come close to the views.
It just makes me feel "scared" to even say I'm a fan for anything really now, there's a ton of games, movies and comics I like but I'll rarely outright say "I am a fan of this or that" online for this reason unless I'm in a group with relatively close friends. I understand why people can get very passionate about a piece of fiction but like anything, consuming too much of that passion can then turn into a poison towards others around you and in turn, you will indirectly hurt the fiction you love the most.
They probably hate you specifically as a Spider-Man fan because you played Miles Morales on me, your lets play channel, but refused to play the original Spider-Man AND I can see Web of Shadows on your shelf.
You hit everything about fandom's toxic nature. Sadly not many people can change their minds and still turn a hard heart on it instead of being a mature person.
All Fandom have toxicity, people in general suck, especially online. It's intensified on Twitter. Thing about people is that because you know how you should behave doesn't mean that is how they will behave. Anger is a helluva drug and a person when angry isn't a good reflection of who they really are. Unless they are always angry. This is a stab at people who judge fans for a snapshot in time. I can't take people who say "you don't understand spiderman, you are nothing like him" seriously. These people are no better than those they criticize.
i agree, but you have to admit that to an extent the anger in the live action spider-man fandom just seems so.... different. it feels like nothing makes us happy.
One thing I hate about other superhero fans in general, is the constant gate keeping and bashing others for not liking a certain portrayal of a character. People have the right to like what they want to like.
I'm sure there's a toxic portion of any fandom, so, a toxic portion of the Spider-Man fandom, however small it may be, does exist. And yes, I agree with the stan analogy. Stans are more or less so obsessed with the thing they're a fan of, it's unhealthy. Heck, one friend was annoyed because I didnt like the second Spiderverse movie. It's my personal opinion that I didn't like it. I don't have to follow along with this mob mentality. I still love Spider-Man, though, despite some iterations not being my favorite
Its sad to see fans arguing with each other I've been a spider man fan for my whole life but I have never hated on someone for liking a certain trilogy. The world is so toxic now You cant say something without somebody death threating you
I'm a Spider-Man fan and even I can't stand some of the other Spider-Man fans. The moment I mentioned Tom Holland being an awesome Spider-Man fan I get shitted on by some of them claiming I'm not a real fan, even though I read the comics for years but whatever. Instead of enjoying three of them which all three did good with what they were given, they want to keep comparing them thus creating more toxicity in an already toxic fan base and it's sickening.
EXACTLY!Even I'm a tom holland fan and I'm a spiderman fan too he is my 2nd fav superhero. But people just shit on me for liking tom more than tobey and Andrew.
Calling them fans of Spider-Man is too generous. These "things" should just leave for all care. Calling people out for liking something you don't and saying their not a true Spider-Man fan is just painful. This is coming from personal experience because I miss the days when we could all talk about why we loved something without fighting each other. It almost makes me feel bad for being apart of such a terrible community
I personally never thought that the Spider-Man fandom being toxic personally I find the Batman fandom being more toxic which is sad I like Batman but he’s so overexposed
I completely agree with you, I'm someone who's a big fan of tom hollands spider-man because it reminds me of the lee\ditko era, but when I say this a bunch of people start saying I'm wrong for liking that specific version and it kinda makes me wish I wasn't a fan of spider-man.
I wish people could have their own opinions without being cursed out. Personally, my favorite spidey is Garfield. He has the worst movies and him skateboarding is weird but as Spider-Man, he’s my favorite. I feel like Spider-Man is one of the most interesting superheroes to have opinions on so it’s sad that it’s also one of the most toxic ones.
Do not let any idiotic people disrespect you for being a big fan of Tom Holland's Spider Man my man. You are and will always be a Spider Man fan because you love Spider Man. I love MCU Spider Man and I consider him the best version of Spider Man ever in my opinion.
I love MCU Spider-Man a lot. I just really enjoy this iteration of the character and I want to see more. I love TASM1 and tho I don't like the Rami version of the character I understand why people do. So in the end of the day no matter what version you like they're all Spider-Man right?

I posted this on another video but I think it needed to be said here too, and I think you all might agree. The problem is no one is allowed to just “like what I like” anymore, now we all have to say “Oh I like this and if you disagree with me you suck and I’ll give you a 5 page essay about why you’re wrong.” Like Tom Holland fans can’t say they like him without being called “Iron Boy Jr fans” and being called children who don’t know who Spider-Man is Andrew Garfield fans can’t like him without someone coming up and giving them a detailed nitpick analysis of everything wrong with his version of Spider-Man and how it’s not like 616 Spider-Man Tobey fans can’t say they like him without being called “purists” or “old men”, with punks telling them how corny their movies are. And on the opposite side: Tom Holland fans will just say “But our Spider-Man was in the MCU and his movies aren’t as corny as yours!” Andrew fans will just say “Well ours had better swinging and actions scenes and FX and we actually almost had a Sinister Six!” Tobey fans will just say “Our movies are the holy trinity of movies while you guys are just freakin kids, we had amazing villains, pizza time, rent!” It’s just become a battle royals of “I’m right, your wrong, suck it and shut up,” with us Spider-Man fans to the point where we can’t just sit back and enjoy a Spider-Man movie without nitpicking the crap out of it because we are comparing it to our favorite actor/incarnation of Spider-Man. We can’t even make minor CRITICISM (the actual kind of criticism) about other characters because people think that criticism = hate. it’s hard to be a Spider-Man enjoyer these days, you got to put up with other people’s crap.
You make your statements clear, and you did an awesome job on this one. You’re not afraid to get into the nitty gritty of this stuff, that’s something more people need these days. Keep up the good work!
My dad had a saying about running a restaurant, 20% of your customers cause 80% of your headaches. Unfortunately the same is true about basically every fandom.
As a hardcore Batman fan, I think the same applies where the fans act nothing like the character and that saddens me a lot. Batman is a dude who exercises extreme self control, is a stoic and a man of virtue while the fans bully people who disagree with them, buy Batman merchandise oblivious to the blind consumerism they're contributing and generally thinks creating their own "Home Batcave" is about having a giant ass home theater instead of a space to meditate, study, improve yourself and generally do hard work for self improvement. I'm not saying I know better because I'm genuinely a moron, but I do think the best we could do with these fictional superheroes it to implement their values in our own lives for OUR OWN self improvement. Living virtuously is a superpower waiting for every one of us.
The worst part is if you talk to individuals irl most are great. I think it's online anonymity + groups that make people like this. It's too bad cause the internet simultaneously finds a way to bring out the best and the worst in people.
@@visionary1138 Definitely this. The issue is almost never individual fans if you were to talk to someone alone. It certainly can be but it's usually more of a group problem.
Spider-Man is one of the greatest heroes! But the fandom, most of the time they're the one's who hurt the movies most of the time. I know it's their opinion's and it's not every fan's! Alot of them are great people! Like you said, no one has to feel the same way, and that's okay. Have a nice day, great content, keep on going. Have a nice day! Bye!
This is very true. I think this can be expanded to life itself. Most people are generally good but the few pricks can spoil even the best of things for everyone. Moral of the story: Spider-Man is awesome and Don’t be dickhead
I think there are two types of fans. One type of fan seeks to emulate and learn from the character while personalizing the experience, and another just enjoys the crap out of the character seeking to impose their will onto others. It really does seem like religion. I'm a long-time Batman fan, but I'm not nearly as obsessed as I once was. I'll say this. I think it's way better to actually be religious (faith in God type of stuff), than to be religious over comic book characters.
I don't understand most Spider-Man "fans". I saw some people saying they don't like the MCU Spider-Man laughing and almost making fun of Doc Ock and that's not Spider-Man. And to me it's like, that's literally what the character of Spider-Man is lol. Spider-Man is known for doing that. I personally can see why people like Tobey as Spider-Man (personally, I think his movies and his take as Spider-Man have not aged well). And I personally think Andrew Garfield is the best Spider-Man but can see why people don't like his Spider-Man. Idk, I don't get most of the Spider-Man "fans".
The thing i hate about spiderman fans so much is they will talk shit about batmans moral code but wont say a single thing about spiderman despite the fact that he has the same rule and lets villains who are just as dangerous or irredeemable as the joker live (Osborn, cletus, kraven, electro, rhino to name a few)
Honestly agree with a lot of what you said. It's so hard to pick a favourite without experiencing toxicity in the fandom and it's honestly ridiculous that not even loving all versions is enough because you still get some entitled fan who needs to tear others down and prove that their version is the best
Totally agreed tobey maguire's spider-man has maximum number of toxic fans these toxic fans made the trilogy enjoyable for me whenever I see any movie of the trilogy it reminds me of those toxic fools they have to understand that everybody has their own opinion and choices and they have to respect everyone's opinion.
I literally just went though this yesterday with an MCU fan because I said that BvS Ultimate Edition is one of my favorite movies. This guy called my opinion shit and went on a whole rant about how marvel is better. All I said was I liked BvS
i am a big fan of the Tobey Maguire Spider-Man. I grew up with Spider-Man as a kid and I didn't like Andrew Garfield's version for reasons mostly to do with the second movie. However, I did watch the first Amazing Spider-Man movie in the theatres when it was released. I wasn't a happy camper to say the least, with Spidey being so "got it all already" but I did like Andrew as an actor but didn't think much about it. Was hoping to see Spidey in the MCU, and Tom Holland's portrayal in the avengers movie was pretty cool but then i saw homecoming, the only character that really stood out for me was The Vulture but essentially, he felt like iron boy instead of Spider-Man. It came to mind that hell, this Spider-Man is this generation's Spider-Man and as much as I wish the core of the character was kept to what I remembered, I'll just let it go and was already happy on my way out of the Spidey fandom basically. However, then No way home came out -- they not only bring the last two Spider-men back but the most memorable Spider-man was Andrew's. They also made Tom Holland's Spider-Man more , the journey rather than the destination type of character -- reminds me of Spider-man PS4/PS5 at the end and my god, I'm actually excited to see Spider-man 4. I hope that Andrew gets his own spin-off and that Tobey really will be in Dr. Strange 2. Either or, I didn't expect to be so invested into Spider-Man again. Also chad fanboyism sucks balls. stop it if you are.
Yo no odio a los fandoms, porque son solo personas que tienen el derecho de hacer lo que quieran. Además odiar a una persona sin conocerla bien es bastante ridículo.
Like I keep telling people that Spider-Man is a goddamn fictional character and its not that deep. But then they call me all sorts of names. It's honestly kinda pathetic Not all Spider-Man fans are like that but still
Unfortunately every single Fandom has a vocal minority that makes the rest of the fans look bad. It's good to know some of us are still rational enough to know that this mindset is completely fucked. Mad respect bro, I'd love to talk one on one about this sort of thing with you guys
I am a Spider-Man fan and I understand that a lot of people are like this and I don’t like people like this. I’m just a fan who likes to enjoy the movies games, tv shows and comics. Sometimes I just wish these people weren’t like this. Thank you for bringing these people in the spotlight
I’m really hoping that No Way Home helped ease the hostility among the fanbase, at least with the live action Spider-Men. Why argue over who’s the best when you could just enjoy them all being in one movie together
@@DegenerateJay Same here. Like one of THE best mcu movies in my opinion. Top 5 easily. Really looking forward to seeing what they do with the character next and also looking forward to more of your videos

Watched the entire video and I agree with you Jay :) I love this character a lot and to me it’s perfectly fine for people to have their own thoughts because everybody is different and unique. Keep being honest man 👍🏻
Man this has to be the most accurate depiction of fandom to date; and I’m not justing saying it as a Spider-Man fan but towards anything that has a fandom (Ex: My Hero Academia, Batman, Legend of Zelda, Sonic the Hedgehog, etc). It’s like every time people talk about what the worst and/or best of a certain media of the franchise is and completely forgetting all the life lessons and portrayals of the characters and ruining the experience for any old and new fans of the franchise. I mean I have my favorites for a franchise, they have their strengths and flaws, in fact some of the movies and games of the franchises I just listed are “bad” by the majority of the fans but here’s the thing I DONT CARE, I like the installment because it means something to me and if you don’t feel the same way I do that’s fine but that doesn’t give you the right to say that it’s the best or the worst of a franchise.
When I started becoming a huge spiderman fan my friend from kindergarten was no longer a friend he will always hate on me for being a fan I never knew why but all he said was that he hated marvel and he forced his opinion on others
@@MR.GOAT. I don’t really know much of the Star Wars community but I’ve seen spidey fans fight over everything from the games to tv shows like the spectacular and the 90s but overall it is mostly bout the movies
Personally the amazing Spider-Man 2 was my least favourite out of all the live-action movies from Sony. They tried to do too much with it and pushed for a 3rd and 4th movie as well a sinister 6 spin-off. Really thinking way too far ahead.
I definitely think that making a video like this is brave and dangerous, I hope the comments aren't that toxic for this video because I agree with you, myself being pretty big on star wars I feel frowned upon for not hating any of the movies that much
So I've loved spiderman basically all my life. Reading the ultimate spiderman comic line as I grew up helped me through some dark times in my personal life. That being said, even when they were coming out I never cared for Toby spiderman. I remember preferring Andrew as they movies first came out and then I liked Tom even better. I actually had happy tears during civil war when he showed up. There are definite problems with all three series, but I feel like I'm not allowed to voice my opinions because I don't echo "Toby is the best". Whenever I do mention I didn't like those movies I always have to preface it with "now hear my out, PERSONALLY the Toby movies never connected with me". I absolutely hate the fanbases of all my favorite things because if it's popular, it's toxic
Yeah same. Truthfully I never really liked the Raimi movies mostly because of the fans like Hitop clearly levelling their boss against the MCU Spider Man. MCU Spider man is my favorite bc I relate to him the most. He's basically me without all the superhero bs. So of when people are gonna insult him I am gonna be angry because he still carries the essence of Spider Man and his films felt the most Spider Man to me (I've read my fair share of comic books including the Steve Ditki and Stan Lee era, so believe me when I say the MCU movies are faithful adaptations. No he is not Iron Boy Jr No he is not a white Miles, no he is not too dependant on Iron Man. If you don't like the concept or ideas placed on this Spider Man that's fine, but no need to shit on it with lies misconception s and unfair criticisms)
@@obiwankenobi1532 exactly! I feel like people forget the first thing peter tried to do after his origin story was join the fantastic four. It has always been a part of his character to join and team up with the other heros. And with that being said these movies always have him solve the threat without the help of the other mcu tagalongs mostly. Homecoming he was completely cut off before the final fight. And fat from home saw Tony dead and nick fury write him off entirely before he swooped back in to save the day. He had happy's help, but happy has become a spiderman supporting character at this point anyways. I do hope if we get a second trilogy we can focus more on his small time problems like money and time management, but to me that's not what spiderman is really about. All a spiderman movies needs from me is that underlying message spidy has always had imo. The idea that no matter the mistakes you make and the hardships that come your way, you must always find the strength inside yourself to keep moving and always grow
"Every Spiderman fan hates Spiderman" You just also described the Sonic and the Star Wars fandom, they all hate their own stuff as well. I remember a time when I started disliking Toby's Spiderman a lot because every single time something about Tom's Spidey was brought up, people started saying sht about him and saying that Toby's was better and that he is the one and only, I just- Idk, just stay away from the fans and enjoy some spiderman stuff that you like, no matter what it is, at the end of the day everyone likes Spiderman, just enjoy the way you want.
It is rather depressing that in some cases it isn't a large portion of a fandom that make the most noise that create such a reputation that brings down everyone. As well as the fact that if someone does have a different opinion that they get threatened or even worse. I tend to believe that certain parts of the internet and what it has created has been a gate way to horrid behavior and the ultimate escape of consequences for abhorrent actions. At times when these people who go to such lengths do these things, it really takes my faith away in humanity. It sucks and i wish, just wish, that people could be better then that. Especially when the character they idolize, who some wish they could be, would never go to such lengths.
Why are these people still bringing up the Tim Drake thing? Most people didn't like that story. They're not all horrible people for thinking it's a badly written story. Like go outside FFS.
Though accuracy does matter.
And true!
I mean, comics can get toxic too especially when people want to act as if politics have just now been in there or if bad writing wasn't always a problem, people sent death threats over the change to the black suit and the death of Gwen Stacy.
Now, people stopped reading the comics so you don't see it as much but it's still there.

He’s even more like that in the early ultimate comics but that’s just because he’s a teenager still

Great video here Jay, just wanted to say that you destroyed that guy at 9:08.
As a Spider-Man fan I deeply love all the versions
I'm right there with you Logan
Ah I see that you are a man of culture as well.
I agree with this as well.
I hate prep time.
You do you."
The internet just makes it easier for all the toxic people to get together.
Every time I go on Instagram and say something about a spiderman post there's always these people who tell me to shut my mouth
They probably hate you specifically as a Spider-Man fan because you played Miles Morales on me, your lets play channel, but refused to play the original Spider-Man AND I can see Web of Shadows on your shelf.
Yea jay you heard him that’s why you shouldn’t have played miles we want spider man 2 now!!!!!
My first Spider-Man game is Spider-Man 3 on ps2 and my second Spider-Man game is the amazing Spider-Man on ps3
You hit everything about fandom's toxic nature. Sadly not many people can change their minds and still turn a hard heart on it instead of being a mature person.
1 Year later and the video is still relevant.
Japanese Spider-Man is still the most underrated.
Man I wish more people watch this video. It is really good.
i agree, but you have to admit that to an extent the anger in the live action spider-man fandom just seems so.... different. it feels like nothing makes us happy.
@@adrianjames5970 yes definitely.
My friends don’t like when I say nwh is a bad Spider-Man more(well it could be better).

A friend once told me that I reminded them of spider-man, and my first reaction was discomfort cause of the type of stuff you mentioned here.
Facts.
"Spiderman can beat everyone when he stops holding back" 😂😂😂😂
I personally never thought that the Spider-Man fandom being toxic personally I find the Batman fandom being more toxic which is sad I like Batman but he’s so overexposed

Most Spider-Man fans on the internet aren't even old enough to drive. They're annoying and toxic, sure, but they're just immature.
Why is that so true? XD
I love MCU Spider-Man a lot. I just really enjoy this iteration of the character and I want to see more. I love TASM1 and tho I don't like the Rami version of the character I understand why people do. So in the end of the day no matter what version you like they're all Spider-Man right?
Correct. I don't like Raimi as much as people do bc of how they over praise the movies and shit on the new ones.
But people are aloud to like what they like, and I will let them. So everybody must do the same.
What do you mean Spider-Man is a great and a hero Spider-Man is a menace to society.
Real fans appreciate all Spider Man for their pros and cons, their performances, realizes that they are all different from one another, but appreciate that they are all great in their own way and are happy that we got three adaptations of their favorite character

I've noticed this with the movie versions. Tom is my favorite version and I see so many people hating those trying to defend him. Like I see an account debunking the reasons why he's a bad spiderman, and the comments are littered with people who think the account owner is a dumbass or should end their life because of their favorite spiderman. Like I'm not the biggest fan of Andrew's spiderman, but I won't attack those who love him.
Yeah same. It's hard being a Tom fan on the Internet.
@@obiwankenobi1532 It really is. I'll admit Tom has flaws, But the Tobey and Andrew fans just can't. They love tearing apart the Tom movies, calling him Stark Jr and how his identity is revealed easily, but you point out a plothole in their movies and they go crazy.

It's very cliche to say that Superman, Batman and Spider-Man are 3 characters anyone loves.. But these are the characters I feel in love in 90s with their animated series respectively which eventually made me explore the world of comics book, superhero shows, videogames and everything that I love today.. But every since these characters are getting popular and/or mainstreamed more are more people are becoming crazy and toxic fans to a level even saying one thing about them are "oh, go read the comics" or "dude, are you even a Superman fan if you donno how it went down".. I mean, it's really not necessary for me to know everything about a character to like or love them, right!?! What I am trying to say is that these people who we call stans are increasing more and more and it's really annoying..
And you can’t deny, Spider-Man has one of the, if not the best theme song out of any superhero ever.
@VinceSM Well I’m taking about og theme song. The one from the older cartoon. The one that goes 🎵 Spider-Man, Spider-Man, does whatever a spider can, spins a web any size, catches thieves just like flies. Look out! Here comes the Spider-Man. Is he strong? Listen up, he’s got radioactive blood. Can he swing from a thread? Take a look overhead, hey there, there goes the Spider-Man. In the chill of night at the scene of a crime, like a streak of light he arrives just in tiiiiiiime. Spider-Man, Spider-Man, friendly neighborhood Spider-Man. Wealth and fame is ignored, action is reward. To him life is a great big bang up, wherever there’s a hang up you’ll find the Spider-Maaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaan 🎵
Totally agree. Not all, but some people are just complete assholes, thinking they are superior and above everyone else. Interacting with fandoms these days are honestly not worth it because of them.
The Lizard was clearly fighting John Cena in the new trainer
What I like about No way home is that it should bring all 3 Spiderman fans together but some people gotta ruin it
I usually laugh at how fans of the NWH are always arguing over which live action Spider-Man is the best and how their going to appear in the movie, to hype people up to see the film. But the more they hype it up, the more they ruin the experience.

The Tobey McGuire fan base 👀
Yeah they gate keep the shiii out of him and they head shot people who isn't a fan of his. They talk like he's the one and only spidey that ever existed like he's the real and only good Spider-Man and that's just cuz they saw him first. They are literally fused to their nostalgia specs.
What they need to get threw their thick skull is that he is not a Spider-Man. He is a cool Spider-Man but all that Tobey is good at is his Peter Parker. He pull it off and that's a hot take. Andrew was the perfect Spider-Man but ofcourse he's not great with Peter Parker. Tom was brilliant at both it's as simple as that. But at the end of the day. We love Spider-Man as whole.
I posted this on another video but I think it needed to be said here too, and I think you all might agree.
The problem is no one is allowed to just “like what I like” anymore, now we all have to say “Oh I like this and if you disagree with me you suck and I’ll give you a 5 page essay about why you’re wrong.”
Like Tom Holland fans can’t say they like him without being called “Iron Boy Jr fans” and being called children who don’t know who Spider-Man is
Andrew Garfield fans can’t like him without someone coming up and giving them a detailed nitpick analysis of everything wrong with his version of Spider-Man and how it’s not like 616 Spider-Man
Tobey fans can’t say they like him without being called “purists” or “old men”, with punks telling them how corny their movies are.
And on the opposite side:
Tom Holland fans will just say “But our Spider-Man was in the MCU and his movies aren’t as corny as yours!”
Andrew fans will just say “Well ours had better swinging and actions scenes and FX and we actually almost had a Sinister Six!”
Tobey fans will just say “Our movies are the holy trinity of movies while you guys are just freakin kids, we had amazing villains, pizza time, rent!”
It’s just become a battle royals of “I’m right, your wrong, suck it and shut up,” with us Spider-Man fans to the point where we can’t just sit back and enjoy a Spider-Man movie without nitpicking the crap out of it because we are comparing it to our favorite actor/incarnation of Spider-Man.
What makes this sad is that the character is supposed to be relatable and some of our fandom like is making that pieces of him disappear 😔
I hate most fans of the things I'm into especially Dragon Ball, Kingdom Hearts, Rick & Morty and Sonic they're all mainly man babies
I like Kingdom Hearts too, but the fans can be..annoying.
It’s backwards for SJWs as well but fair point.

This is very true. I think this can be expanded to life itself. Most people are generally good but the few pricks can spoil even the best of things for everyone.
Moral of the story: Spider-Man is awesome and Don’t be dickhead

I think all 3 Spider-Men r great in their own way. They each brought something to the table
I’m a Spider-Man Fan
(Prepares for Comment War from expressing my likeness of Spider-Man)
I think there are two types of fans.
The thing i hate about spiderman fans so much is they will talk shit about batmans moral code but wont say a single thing about spiderman despite the fact that he has the same rule and lets villains who are just as dangerous or irredeemable as the joker live

i am a big fan of the Tobey Maguire Spider-Man.

@@randomnerd3402 Twitter should pull themselves off. Maybe they would be less bored.
Because it was still ass. It’s the fact DC is slowly becoming a propaganda joke.
Also, same could be said about leftists needing to go outside.
@@ventusvanitas7544 No that's my point. Jay said the story was bad and these people are still bringing it up to get mad at him not liking the story.
@@thequestionable1413 Oohh.
