    Definitely a big mistake taking out "god has seen your sinning just beginning, pray for your salvation from damnation"of this song in 2012, that was the scariest and spookiest oart, it's ironic because they will burn anyways.

      I was so confused by the revival. Instead of going after things that genuinely needed to be fixed (mostly the book, some lyrics, and staging), they cut and rewrote things that actually WORKED in the original. It was probably done to pander the show to high school and fans of "High School Musical" and "Glee," which I find to be rather creatively bankrupt.

  • @alexmancheno4464

    I think they should reinsert Carrie singing the "God has seen your sinning just beginning" verses, it's a nice, creepy echo of her mother's power now given to her in a newly sinister way that gives me the chills as Hateley sings it, almost giving the kids a chance to repent to "Pray for your salvation, from damnation", then stretching out the words "He Will Burn You!" into a perfect death sentence for the whole school.

    One thing I really like about this is that the mocking is much more personal and vindictive. They don't just dump blood on her, they throw her back and forth and scream in her face. Sadly reminds me of things I saw in school playgrounds. It makes her revenge much more satisfying in the end.

    • @CartoonPrincess15

      In a local version I saw, after the blood got dumped, they had Tommy yell "What the hell?" while the prom went in hysterics, and also a bit before when Carrie said "His name is Tommy Ross mother," the empty bucket fell on Tommy knocking him out (probably using cords or something to make it look like the bucket fell), with Carrie looking in shock at an unconscious Tommy when she said her line.

    I think the original score for this scene is WAY more engaging. The music for the 2012 destruction has no emotional punch to it, it barely even has a tune...it's just filler. This really feels like a musical SCORE. The brass entrance at 2:35 is full of fury, then the "doesn't anybody" melody returns, and he "pray for your salvation" melody coming back once everyone is dead is absolutely chilling.
    There was so much right here, that just needed to be polished.

    I agree with the consensus that the creative team of the 2012 production could have kept the "God has seem your sinning..."etc., however, I think it would have been best if, in the 2012 "The Destruction", she could have done the verse with "they will laugh at you, they will break your heart...... Watching you fall apart", the music break that's there, minus the buildup, THEN sung this version's "God has seen your sinning..."etc, THEN the small music break with a buildup, THEN sung the 2012 key of the final "Doesn't anybody ever get it right? Doesn't anybody think that I hear?" Because I think those two lines are the best and most powerful way to end it, the best final notes and words from Carrie as her absolute final message before she kills everyone.

    I would like the sheet music! I am doing a condensed version of this for my senior direct! And I am using the 1988 Destruction rather then the 2012! I love both but the "He will burn you" part isn't in the revival! So if you could send it to me!

    1:52 I liked that scene. That thing (don't know what it is, sorry) coming down representing Carrie closing the doors of the prom is a very nice touch, but there is a con though, people can barely see what's going on actually on "The Destruction".

    and now that I rewatch it... near the end (prior to Billy jumping onto the platform) i'm pretty sure Tommy and maybe Gardener are at the scrim with Sue and Carrie 'shoots' whoever the woman is and Tommy picks her up and heads of stage... But I think Carrie then 'shoots' him before he can make it

    Personally, I think this version is better than the 2012 version. It's very haunting and a bit scare. It just gives the impression that something horrible is about to happen. Also, the lyrics. Not only amazing vocals from this girl but amazing acting. You put all those together you can here she's finally had enough, and now that she knows she has power, she's going to use it to literally take her metaphorical power back. The lazars were not needed, but the fact everything goes dark and all you can hear is screams with flashing lights and sparks is good enough. It leaves a lot to your imagination.

      Not to be offensive but yall gotta give the 1988 version a break when it comes to comparing the effects with the 2012 revival, it was the 80's for crying out loud, technology still was improving then. Yes I agree they could've done something more " realistic " ( if you want to say ) to match carrie's telekinetic powers, but there were limited options for the effects at the time.

    I do really love the singing, lyrics, and orchestration, but I'm not a fan of the over minimalistic stage or the rock concert effects. The revival, in my opinion, felt more personal with the lights going out and you really only see Carrie illuminated in red lighting. They build the tension beautiful since you just see the shadow of the bucket for a bit before you see it spill over and turning the lights red. You get a moment in her head as her thoughts are racing and she struggles to remain calm or wonders if she should let her powers run wild. Here, I know they had trouble with the mic and the blood dropping on her, but there is just no tension at all, and then when Carrie snaps, it feels unearned.

    Well right after the blood is poured a couple of the boys drag him up state and in the mirrors you can see him fighting to get to her (rather lamely)... Then once the destruction starts at the very beginning he can be seen up at the scrim that random falls, trying to get to Sue (You can actually her Sue cry 'Tommy look out' or 'get out'... Something like that) And then he is the last person Carrie kills, he crawls onto the platform at the end and she kills him

  • @elibarton9914
    @elibarton9914 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    I get that this was the 80’s, but they figured out how to land a helicopter on stage in Miss Saigon. Yet somehow stringing a bucket of blood in the rafters so that it can be properly dumped on Carrie was impossible??
    Having Chris and Billy just run on and throw it over her head just looks so silly and dumb. Thank goodness the revival and the new productions have corrected this!

  • @jaspar38
    @jaspar38 15 ปีที่แล้ว +8

    It's supposed to be Sue, the one who has her boyfriend ask Carrie to prom, but isn't allowed to go to prom after doing so because you had to have a date.
    And, yes, those are supposed to be the stairs of the school, but the bigger implication is that Carrie is collapsing the roof of the gym on the participants.

    This has to be the most spectacularly awful set design I've seen in my life. Why was everything done in a giant mirrored box when realism would have been even more powerful? Like in "And Eve Was Weak" or the other songs in the White household?
    I now understand why this show flopped. The score is beautiful, the cast is talented, but there was no way to overcome such strange design.

    • @loveandwar007
      @loveandwar007 2 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      The set and costumes alone killed this show. The jarring whiplash between the high school scenes and the Carrie/Margaret scenes, coupled with the script being so hacked to bits by the director that anyone in the audience unfamiliar with the book/movie had no idea what was even going on, buried it.
