It's not really so much of the meaning, but how that meaning of the word specifically is used in anime culture and how Subaru was treating people at the beginning like they were anime characters with just "roles" like Emilia being his "heroine"

Mistranslating a line which completely takes away the seriousness of the scene, then uploading it on TH-cam a few hours after the episode airs without bothering to correct it is one of the most embarrassing things Crunchyroll has done recently.
Listening through the dialogue, the terms used are: - "hanayome", originally used by Regulus, consistently translated in subs as "bride"; according to Wiktionary strictly used to mean "bride" - "tsuma", used by Regulus, translated in subs as "wife"; according to Wiktionary it can mean "spouse"/"wife" - "[ore no] yome", used by Subaru, translated in subs as "[my] waifu"; according to Wiktionary it can mean "bride"/"wife"/"waifu or husbando" When Subaru says strict "hanayome" it matches "bride" in subtitles, and the only phrase that gets translated as "waifu" is broader "yome". One may argue that "waifu" doesn't properly capture the intended meaning/tone of the scene, but at least - going by Wiktionary - it's one of perfectly applicable translations.
Despite it being a very bad mistranslation, seeing pretty much EVERYONE dogpile them about it is honestly pretty funny. I bet all the fans are doing a mass spread of information so people don't misinterpret this.

Stop memeing in the translations and start fixing them instead. There was no need to translate it as Waifu, Subaru said "my Bride" to taunt Regulus because he calls her his own Bride. Also does Sirius really say "my food" and not "his food" ? Also Garfiels Moms name starts with an "L" because its written on her nametag but Garfiel asks if her name is "Rishia" you are not even consistend with your own logic.

Mistranslating a line which completely takes away the seriousness of the scene, then uploading it on TH-cam a few hours after the episode airs without bothering to correct it is one of the most embarrassing things Crunchyroll has done recently.

Listening through the dialogue, the terms used are:

- "tsuma", used by Regulus, translated in subs as "wife"; according to Wiktionary it can mean "spouse"/"wife"
- "[ore no] yome", used by Subaru, translated in subs as "[my] waifu"; according to Wiktionary it can mean "bride"/"wife"/"waifu or husbando"
When Subaru says strict "hanayome" it matches "bride" in subtitles, and the only phrase that gets translated as "waifu" is broader "yome". One may argue that "waifu" doesn't properly capture the intended meaning/tone of the scene, but at least - going by Wiktionary - it's one of perfectly applicable translations.
