JazaakAllahu khair. As a muslim who originates from West Africa (Ghana), I've always wanted to know how Islam came to our region. No doubt that West Africa has produced a good number of scholars of our deen. Hopefully, this part of our history can be told more.
    Assalamu alaikum warahmatullah.

Islam Has taken deep root before the coming of sheikh even the Hausa Muslim aristocrat had a tradition of forbidding non muslims from conversation and enforcing Jizya on them one of the innovation that shaikh Usman fought against the say it in Hausa " kowa yayi addinin kakaninsa" meaning everyone shall stay on the religion of his ancestors. And the worst thing is that even some scholars were fighting Sheikh bn Fodio"

I think an African workshop tour on the collection of Islamic history would be critical. I do believe there's so much yet to be recorded especially in the thriving Swahili Coast where I'm from. You should think about that.

Our beloved sheik Adnan, I'd like to request you to do a video about IMAM AHMED IBN IBRAHIM AL GHAZI. He was a Somali Imam and General of Adal Sultanate who fought against the Abyssinian Empire ( modern-day Ethiopia ).
Imam Ahmed was born in Zeila 1506 A.D, a port city in northwestern Somalia. His real name was Ahmed ibn Ibrahim Al-Ghazi, "Gurey" was his nickname which in the Somali language means "the left-handed one" .
Between the 14th and 15th centuries, as Islam gained popularity in the African continent, where slavery was normalised by several powers, many Muslim rulers emerged as a decisive force, questioning the old power structures. The Christian monarchy of Ethiopia faced resistance from many Muslim rulers who jostled for control of trade routes connecting the Red Sea. Gurey went down in history as a fierce leader who put up a strong fight against an old Ethiopian monarchy and its main backer, the Portugese Empire.
Known as the conqueror among his Muslim subjects, Gurey confronted stalwarts like Cristovao da Gama, the son of famed Portuguese explorer, Vasco da Gama.
While Cristovao came to support Lebna Dengel, the Emperor of Ethiopia, the Ottoman Empire threw its weight behind Gurey.
Imam Ahmed Gurey protected the Portuguese Empire to steal the grave of the Prophet Muhammed PBUH, this event made him a Greate Imam to all Muslims.
The Portuguese troops were led by Da Gama, who met Gurey face to face in April 1542 at Jarte. The meeting did not bring any truce as Da Gama organised his troops and marched against Gurey’s army.
He was successful in dealing with Gurey's cannon fire, even wounding Gurey in the leg with a chance shot. Imam Ahmed Gurey died during that battle may Allah grant his Mercy on him. Allahumma Amin.

most of the kings where given their flags by Sheikh Usman Dan Fodio, their is Sokoto, kano, zaria, katagum, and etc. today the kings are very less powerful because they have very little say and they are under the state Government, a Governor can remove a King and also if a king Dead the governor is responsible for choosing a new king from the names givien to him by the king makers. now the kings mostly they are like reconcilers and also promoters of Islamic studies.

Ibn Taymiyyah innovated by saying that the Hellfrie and Paradise will end....this is not what Shehu Uthman Dan Fodiyo may Allah envelop him in His Mercy, Ameen, represent! He made sure he taught his people the correct creed according to Ahlul sunnah wal jamaa'sh who are the Ash'ari and Maturidi! Shehu Uthman Dan Fodiyo was Asha'ri in Creed, Maliki in Fiqh and Qadiriyyah in Tassawuf! From his book Usool ut-Tareeqah he states about himself that he is Fulaani by lineage, Malaiki by madhhab and Ash'ari by creed....

But he created a dynasty round his descendants and tribe. Islam does not support that kind of leadership because merit is the yardstick needed for selecting a leader.

@Trev Williams I have read about it, I even read Elijah Mohammed's book on freemasonry, it's definitely a strange set of beliefs but so is any other Islam, to a Western mind Islam is more of a cargo cult than a religion, it's about rituals rather than being a moral person.

Shehu Uthman Dan Fodio was not of your ilk…..
Speak on the fact that he was a Sufi of Qaddriyah Tariqa. Truth be told, you and your Wahhabi compatriots in the UK would be opposed by the great Sheikh.
Stop harassing and trying to incriminate African Muslims in the UK before speaking on Muslim scholars from Africa.
