    So happy you made it safely out of Cuba & to Jamaica. Keep all electronic devices away from your auto pilot. Glad that you have that knowledge now. Keep your dinghy & outboard out of the water at night and safely locked up to the boat, dock. Trust no man. Times are tough & crime is increasing everywhere. Stay safe, take care. Cheers, S/V Cork ~ Texas

    Do you need some help onboard???? I am 68 years young and would like to see if I I can still handle a sailboat. I grew up in Florida a block from the ocean and fished and surfed everyday until I was 14 when parents moved to Ohio. In 1978 I was working for IBM and took 2 weeks vacation to help a friend sail his Allied Seawind 32 from Houston to Cozumel. All we had for navigation was a compass and a sextant. It took 12 days against the gulf stream. We sailed through 20-25 ft seas and dead calm in the middle of the Gulf of Mexico. I chartered bareboats in the Bahamas after that many times. I want to buy a sailboat but feel I need to test my skills/abilities!!!! Would you like some help for a while and help me see if I can still do it.

  • @cohall46
    @cohall46 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    Pleased to see that for once this journey did not have any issues other than setting your anchor. The section of your video which showed the ocean being almost glass smooth was very impressive. With all of the fuel that the boat is able to carry how long are you able to motor without using the sails?

    • @HuubVlogs
      @HuubVlogs  2 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Hi Chuck! I never used all the fuel. But depending on the sea conditions I should be able to motor between 4 (rough) and 7 (calm) full days. That is, of course, if engine keeps working haha. I was planning to get rid of 3 jerry cans after reaching to cuba. But it's kind of nice to have 'enough' spare fuel in case of emergency....

  • @shreksswamp9001

    You know, I have watched many channels for around 10 years now and I have not yet seen a channel like this one. Huub, you were rocked by the sudden departure of your girlfriend and it really hit you hard. A lot of people, men and women, might have given up because of the loss and gone to do something else. You have taken it in your stride while at the same time grieving the loss of the relationship. On top of that, you are off single handed sailing in some pretty good and some pretty risky places. Well done. I have to say that I am very impressed and very proud of the fact you are standing so strong and doing this on your own. Mate, you will be that crusty old sea dog real soon and you'll just laugh at the squalls as they roll in over the boat.

    Hey buddy, you should keep all your jerry cans of fuel and water off your bow, which weights heavy on your bow and therefore your vessel and causes it to dig into the waves, as oppose to riding up higher and over the waves. Instead, consider strapping them midship at the widest part of your vessel beam width, where the most part the displacement of your boat is.

    I think you are over the hill in terms of learning to cruise, from now on additional knowledge will be incremental rather than a whole new world. Glad you figured out the autopilot by asking others because asking is an important part of successful traveling. Excellent video with right on editing. Liked the ending where you have to do engine maintenance - it is the right attitude. Thanks.

    Robin Graham of "The Dove" fame, for the youngest to sail around the world solo, had a safety harness attached to a cable that allowed him access all around the deck while solo sailing, so he couldn't fall off the boat and be stranded in the water, while the boat mindlessly sailed on without him. That's what I plan to do and when sailing alone.

  • @premanando127

    Another great video Huub. You seem to be settling in nicely. The windvane you have is probably the best auto pilot money can buy if you are sailing and you can add a cheap tiller pilot to it to use when you are motoring. You really do not need a wheel pilot if you have this. They are fantastic. Great to see you crossing some big water.

Im glad that everyone there seems to be nice and friendly, but remember one thing, no matter where you go, all countries, nice and friendly, does not always gaurantee safety. This process of synchronizing with your boat and the forces of nature is so similar to relationships - you never really know what you're getting yourself into. Both the dangers and rewards are in balance, it seems. Without taking that leap of faith (in either endeavour) the result can be mediocrity and silent submission to the forces of indoctrination which permeate every society. You are navigating it well, and rewards are yours for the taking.

      It does sound a lot like a relationship!

    14:56 "Yeah man" 🤣🤣 Definitely an expression used in America *only* from a man to another man, and who have had a friendship for a while! Or from a man to any other man both from a minority culture.
    They probably got it from it but didn't get the context right 😂

    "I spent my last Cuban money on.... five pizzas, for on the way"
    I laughed a little at first...played it again.... and then laughed so hard I nearly cried. That's exactly what I what I would have done.
