  • The rut is just around the corner and I've found the forest I'll be spending it in! After finding the biggest rubs I've encountered so far on NSW Public Land and some of them still green fresh, this forest is too good to overlook!
The forest also have a healthy population of goats which are an excellent back up plan if things don't work out for the illusive Deer.

Thank you very much for your comment, to get the footage while shooting i actually hold the GoPro in my front hand along with the for-grip of the rifle, I imagine it would be quite a funny sight to see 😂

I was led to believe that farmers had a market for wild goats!

I actually heard something similar too, if that’s the case I might be on to a gold mine! 😂

They used to, price of Goats at the abattoir has dropped again over the last few year so it's not worth the hassle again, but with the price of everything else probably won't be long till people turn back to Goat meat again though and the price will rise

@@rockynrolling6206 good to know, I don’t know why more people don’t eat it, I’ve been having delicious meals from them!

@ThePublicScout certain people do, but I think its still an obscure meat source (and they have a tendency to stink when alive lol) but probably like most obscure meat sources its only a matter of time before it gains in popularity and and numbers like these will dwindle significantly again

@@rockynrolling6206 your not wrong about the smell, I was pretty doubtful that it would taste any good while field dressing my first goats but now I just trust that the smells only skin deep. As for the numbers, they definitely need some thinning and I’m happy to do my part! Haha

    Nice vid keep at it!
What cal is the lever action?
I have been chasing goats in Vic SF for a year and just about to start the journey into deer ❤

Thank you very much! My lever action is a 44 magnum and I love it, the things a hammer. I wouldn’t shoot outside 100 but I usually try to stalk into inside 50, I’ll eventually be using my bow so I’m not really interested in long shots.
Good luck in the tradition for deer, my journey objectively is the same, I’ve been targeting deer for around a year but goats are all I’ve been lucky enough to encounter so far which has made a great freezer filler while I pursue the deer.

love the video mate. good work on the goats. as for access for years to come, i dont think it has much to do with being smart and responsible, although being responsible is something we should all strive for, i think sadly the key is being politically active to retain access as we are a threatened species in this country unfortunatley

      Thanks mate!
I do agree, politics will always be the final decider in the future of public land hunting but quite often politics follow culture, the more smart and responsible hunters there are, the more it becomes a normal and respectable pastime. Personally I’ve introduced quite a few of my friends to what we have available through public land and people who wouldn’t have considered it before are starting their journeys into public land hunting. If more and more hunters are booking into the available forest and these forest are well looked after with fewer ferals than surrounding forests that should set us up for political movements that could grant us access to even more public land to utilise and explore.
I wouldn’t mind trying to help the cause politically in the future but for now I’m just enjoying what we currently have available.
