    Good info. On a similar note when I'm fishing for Brim I do a 3 hook set up on the line and let them drop naturally with a bug or cricket next to a downed tree branch were they like to hide themselves. I tear them up.

    Wow before this trout, keep turning away from my lure because it does not look right. Now I'll put this to use; thought since I will be chumming with corn pieces should I use a smaller light wire hook or a bigger hook since I want to match the hatch with the small pieces of kernel corn?

    • @extremephillyfishing
      @extremephillyfishing  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Ethan Yang I would recommend smaller hooks for Trout, in the range of #8 or above. I particularly prefer a size #10 hook for kernel corn. Hope you catch some fish on it, Ethan! Tight lines and fish on!

    Hi, Leo. Do you teach fishing classes to beginners by any chance?

    • @extremephillyfishing
      @extremephillyfishing  9 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Tony Tan As a matter of fact, I do. I have taught children and adults alike when it comes to fishing. My tutoring is done 1-on-1 and I have 4 different programs: (1) Fishing with Humanities; (2) Fishing with Sciences; (3) Fishing with Environmental Conservation; and (4) Hands-on fishing ONLY. For kids, I have all clearances: FBI background check, child abuse check, and PA police check. I charge $25 an hour and the program is usually a 2 hour per week program that lasts a month (1 hour theory and 1 hour hands on). Thus, 8 hours total. Also, I do offer 1 time 1-on-1 lessons through Patreon. You can check the website here: www.patreon.com/extremephillyfishing?ty=h I made it just recently, so it's pretty new. Anyone who contributes $25 a month to my Patreon page will be supporting the Extreme Philly Fishing social media AND getting a free scheduled 1-on-1 fishing lesson per month (either face-to-face or through webcam). Tight lines, Tony!

    Nice trouts (as always) and thanks for the demonstrations it really helped me, but i have one question with scenario 1 with the flies, do you recommend using a top-water lure (i have a small rubber cricket that floats) or something els? Catch a big one

    • @extremephillyfishing
      @extremephillyfishing  9 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Ciaran McCloskey I would say that you have a chance of landing a Trout or two if you see them lunging at the top of the water for food. That's when you have the hatch going on. Your lure would have to be small and accurate, though! If you are truly interested in literally "matching the hatch," I would recommend you to read the Compleat Angler by Izaak Walton. Tight lines, Ciaran!

    Hi Leo, please help me, I fish trout with spinners but im having a hard time catching them. How can cast my spinner further? without any weight I cover only 30ft from shore. and a little bean shape weight ...115ft huge difference but its not very stealthy and trout barely bite it. I use 5lbs braid with 5lbs mono or flouro leader.

    • @extremephillyfishing

      +HuntingSouthAfrica I have never used the Daiwa Presso before; however, I would say that it shouldn't be too different than the Spinmatic. I just checked its prices and they are in the same range as the Spinmatic. And by the way...the Spinmatic can be all the way from 4'0 to 8'0. I like it 5'6". Thanks for watching! Tight lines!

    Sick Skateboarding -- Unfortunately I am unable to answer to you directly due to your Google+ configurations. For faster responses, please make sure to change it. As for your comment -- the fish would die because it swallowed the hook. After swallowing the hook, the mortality ratio of the fish varies from Species to Species. For a fact, the Oncorhynchus genus and mykiss Species is extremely sensitive to any type of internal injuries. Thus, it's chances of surviving after swallowing a hook would be very low. That's why I recommended my friend Matt to keep it.
    For a full detailed chart of different mortality ratios, I would recommend you to read the Hooking Mortality research conducted by Muoneke and Childress, back in 1994 (wdfw.wa.gov/fishing/downloads/Settlement%20Workshop%20Materials/Literature/Muoneke%20and%20Childress.pdf) Tight lines!

    do fish with corn will kill the fish

    • @extremephillyfishing
      @extremephillyfishing  9 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      +Jake Myalls I think you meant to say "don't fish with corn. It will kill the fish?" If so, you are wrong. Saying that corn will kill a Trout is a myth. There have been multiple researches relating Trout and kernel corn conducted in the past. These researches indicated that the Trout weren't able to digest the kernel corn very well and that no mortality was observed in the short-term. It's like human beings and kiwi and dragon fruit seeds. We -- human beings -- aren't able to fully digest the seeds of a kiwi or dragon fruit. Thus, they are released in our waste completely intact. The same happens for the Trout -- they are able to digest the insides of the kernel corn to a certain extent; however, they are not able to digest the exterior skin of the corn.
      For more information: fishandboat.com/images/pages/qa/fish_regs/corn_chum.htm (as I have indicated in your other rude comment, it's totally legal to use corn in PA). Tight lines!

    corn kills trout they can't digest it

    • @extremephillyfishing
      @extremephillyfishing  8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      +Miguel Neves That is not true, Miguel. Here is a nice explanation of the whole thing, if you feel like reading and learning?
      1. Can fish digest corn?
      ANSWER: It depends. On what, you ask? It depends on which Species we are talking about! Corn itself is a very hard type of food for fish to digest, especially when consumed WHOLE. The keyword here is "whole." For example: although we don't see it, Common Carp (Cyprinus carpio) have "pharyngeal teeth" in the back of their mouths to facilitate their digestive process. The pharyngeal teeth are there to further CRUSH everything that passes a Carp's mouth. From your perspective, all you see is a Carp sucking the corn in. However, little you knew that those pieces of corn are being crushed into smaller pieces before hitting their stomachs. :)
      On the other hand, we have Species that eat the corn as a whole! Examples would be Rainbow Trout (Oncorhynchus mykiss), Brown Trout (Salmo trutta), Channel Catfish (Ictalurus punctatus), Creek Chub (Semotilus atromaculatus). These Species do NOT have pharyngeal teeth; therefore, the corn goes directly from their mouth to their stomachs! WHOLE THING. And that's when they have trouble digesting the skin of the corn. Although some states do NOT recommend using corn to fish for certain Species of fish, I would like to point out that no fish has ever died from consuming corn! The consequences of not being able to digest corn is simply that fishes can't absorb the nutrients of corn to a maximum extent.
      This happens to human beings too, by the way! There are certain things that we just aren't able to digest. One common known example is kiwi seeds! Next time you eat LOTS of KIWI with seeds in it, make sure to look at your stool next time you go to the bathroom. You will come to realize that those seeds will come out in the same shape and color as they went in. In the end, we ARE what we eat. :) And we certainly don't die from eating kiwi seeds, do we? We don't get ill either! They just come out and everything is fine. The downside, just like with the fish example, is that we aren't able to absorb the nutrients of the kiwi seeds. :)
      Tight lines, Miguel!

      @siarlpotatoshoe 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      I've caught 18 inch trout with rocks in their stomachs, and regularly catch them with plastic lures inside, too. I doubt even if they can't digest the corn it will kill them. They're not native to EPF's area anyways, they're meant to be taken and eaten. I'd be more reluctant to use them on the native trouts here.
