Does CORN Work better than Powerbait? Beginner Trout Fishing

  • Does corn work better for trout fishing than powerbait? As a beginner when it comes to trout fishing, I want to find out. After waiting for the river water to recede, i get to trout fishing with the corn. I manage to hook into three trout but only land two of them. One of the trout is a nice sized brown trout! I made it a point to not try the powerbait this trip and it still worked out. I caught what is probably my biggest brown trout to date. Unfortunately it jumped out of my hands before I could measure it. Can beginners catch trout on corn instead of powerbait? Yes! Does it work better? I am still not sure.

      I grew up fishing for trout on corn. It may have been because I could only afford the hook and had corn in the garden, but always had good luck. Another great video. 👍

    The trout in our Tasmanian waters don’t fall for any of the powerbait, bobbers etc. you have to use natural baits, flys, you might get lucky with spinners. Would love to see a video for newbies using those methods. The methods in these vids only work on our “farm stocked ponds and rivers”

    trout love corn...TOO MUCH! I prefer carp fishing (that fight!) but can't use corn in the same places where trout are as the annoying stocker trout constantly get to it first....my pet peeve. Trout are the "trash fish"/ unwanted by catch when carp are the target. All things are relative, now THAT'S being REALISTIC ;-)

    One small advantage of PowerBait is the growing number of waters which don't allow corn and similar to be used as baits. However, even in those areas, I still prefer natural baits (worms, eggs, insects, etc) over PowerBait. If I absolutely must use artificial stuff, I'd go for spoons, inline spinners, flies, and similar.

    KFC Corn... Thats Cheating.... lol... Trout get picky at times... Sometime they want corn, sometime it could be rainbow power bait, yellow, with or without glitter, or even pumpkin... Here trout and cart are about all that is in the local Park Lake where I can fish for now... I actually give away or catch and release and only keep one or maybe two... for the wife, my little kitty cat and myself to eat...
    Years ago they woulds stock with Cats and Bass in the summer but they said it costs to much so summer is basically no fishing unless it for Carp... They usually stock the end of Oct threw April 1st with Trout..

    At 3:44 those are mussel shells. This place looks a lot like our blue ribbon trout fishery here in KY on the Cumberland River. I’ve got several trout fishing videos on my channel from there.

    • @RealisticFishing
      @RealisticFishing  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Are those trout stocked up there?

    • @fisheyeguy
      @fisheyeguy 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Realistic Fishing yes the Wolf Creek National Fish Hatchery is at the base of the dam. They raise rainbows, brown, and brook trout for streams and rivers all over the state and country. They have a “hatchery creek” that feeds trout directly into the Cumberland River. Those trout also come back there to spawn naturally.

    Ive caught them on corn but cant say it works better than powerbait. I normally always limit out and quicker with powerbait than almost anything else. If they aren't tuned into powerbait their looking for something moving and I go to an inline spinner normally

    Just curious why you use a swivel and leader. Why not just hook up to the mainline and add the split shot. Thanks

    • @RealisticFishing
      @RealisticFishing  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Because the corn twists a lot as it drifts down in the current.

    Why does line all go to one side of my spool?

    • @RealisticFishing
      @RealisticFishing  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      The usual culprit it that the line is being held off to the side when spooled. Make sure it is coming down the center of the the reel through at least one guide. Also make sure the level spooling guide is moving side to side while you put the line on.

    Have you ever tried float fishing a fly on a spinning reel? That is how I catch a solid 80% of my trout.

    • @RealisticFishing

      When they stock the ponds close to home. Otherwise have to head north to the cooler streams

    • @garrybattle8908
      @garrybattle8908 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Corn stays on really well it basically only comes off from a fish hitting it

    • @RealisticFishing
      @RealisticFishing  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      It comes off after a little while twisting in the current. But thats why you bring a bunch, its so cheap.
