I am a doctor, but at med school I never learnt this well when coursed dermatology. Your explanations are magistral in content but more impressively so simply precise and easily understood even to people not used to scientific terminology.

Another masterclass on the fundamentals of dermatology. As a nurse, Dr. Dray’s information is frequently incorporated into practice to educate patients undergoing anti-cancer treatment. The patients are always so grateful for this information as most oncologists just don’t know about effective strategies for skin management.

I've completely smoothed out KP on my upper arms thanks to your advice, Dr. Dray. I simply lather the tiny bit of Peach Slices SA wash left over on my hands from washing my face to my upper arms in the shower. Followed by AmLactin moisturizer. OMG I'm in my 60's but my arms now feel like when I was a teenager - so soft, smooth and supple!!! I didn't even know my skin could feel so amazing. BTW Costco has 2-pack of 20 oz. AmLactin WAY cheaper than I've seen it at drugstores. Highly recommended.

Thank God poor little glycerin is inside, if not in every at least the vast majority of moisturizers 😊❤. Urea is pretty underrated indeed and at higher percentages it serves a dual purpose both hygroscopic and keratolytic. Everything is essential because it benefits the skin 😊❤but that doesn't meaning everything should be included in one moisturizer (not that it doesn't exist 😅). Thanks for clarifying everything according NMF 😊❤.

This just confirmed my suspicions on why the ordinary's moisturizer is the only one (of the 10+ moisturizers I've tried over 4 years) that works wonders for me! All the other ones blocked my pores, made me look greasy and didn't stop tretinoin peeling appearance and associated redness! (btw I have atopic skin and had really bad eczema until I was 12).
Every time one of those failed and made me look like a peeling tomato, the ordinary's moisturizer reverted me to a healthy looking skin in just 1 week of use.
I've always felt that urea was one of the big reason's why that moisturizer was different from the others 😁

For some weird reason whatever I put on my face, I react badly to. Pre 2019 I had no issues except very sensitive skin, and I would react to alcohol like in setting sprays (itch), or mineral makeup which I’m allergic to. I went to MUA school and learned it 1st thing lol. Growing up I never wore sunscreen or any products in general. Started wearing moisturizer at least when becoming a MUA in 2012. Then after starting cleanser, toners, serums, and sunscreen my skin clicked. I thought I had Rosacea, but I was diagnosed with diabetes type 2 in January and being vitamin D deficient which I read can cause havoc on skin. So it might be overlapping symptoms that look like Rosacea. Stopped using any skincare expect cleansing at night before bed and my skin has never looked better… I also have various allergies as well as intolerances so after cutting out various foods known to cause acne and inflammation that helped tremendously. I still have flare ups and breakout which is so annoying as I didn’t even have much acne or pimples when in puberty even. Only one pimple on the side of my nose due to junk/diary or sugar. I also struggle with dehydration. Previously I fixed it by stop smoking and drinking water, and moisturizing. Doesn’t work anymore…

PLEASE READ! I’m dying to know your opinion on this .. this may be a dumb question but I see lots of debate over it.. when you wash your face, what do you use to dry it? I have heard from some to let it air dry or even put on moisturizer while skin is damp as it absorbs the water and hydrates the skin, but others say that air dying is not great. In terms of drying it, do you use paper towels? Wash cloths? If you use a wash cloth, do you use it once then throw it in the laundry? I would imagine drying my face with the same wash cloth more than once could lead to bacteria build up? I need answers to this!!!! Also, do you wash in the morning and what do you recommend to those who don’t want to wash but want to freshen up skin? If the answer is miscellar water or another product .. again what do you use to apply it? I really hope you can bring me clarity here!

For last few months I suffered from intense itching all over body and now followed by pigmentation and perhaps keratosis polaris.
My doctor has recommended oral isotretinoin in low dose and moisturisers and tretinoin/ tactolimus for local use .
I'm a patient of LPP on face and neck for so many years but my body was spared but now my whole body has been affected with dark patches ...may be macular amyloidosis due to leakage of pigment following intense itching not responding to multiple and different anti histaminics .

So informative dr dray. If our skin has all these natural moisturisers why are we all obsessed with using moisturiser. I heard an expert say using moisturiser, stops your skin producing and regulating its own moisture, sounds crazy. It makes you wonder if we should just leave well alone.
