How to write songs like Blotted Science:
    1. Pick the most insane time signature imaginable, including but not limited to some of these examples from actual Blotted Science songs:
    a) 11/8
    b) 13/16
    c) 5/8
    d) 11/16
    e) Make sure to add ample time signature changes throughout the song!
    2. Use an extremely complex bassline to complement the other instruments, and don't let it get drowned out by the other instruments.
    3. Use nothing but intricate drum patterns and fills throughout the whole song and make sure no one with less than, say, 7-10 years of drumming experience can even dream of learning it.
    4. For guitars, fill the entire song with solos and don't pause for a second to catch your breath; don't even make the parts without solos even remotely close to being easy to learn.
    5. Repeat steps 1 through 4, 6-15 times, and make each song more difficult to play than the last.
    6. Return to your full-time bands and continue making sick-ass music.
    I fucking love this group.

+GG Allin Don't forget about dem 12-tone system inspired by Schönberg.

+Dr. Florence actually it has nothing to do with schönberg and so is not inspired by it ;-)

      TozSanchez
Well, Schönberg was the first one to use a 12-tone system, and although it's not the same system, I wouldn't say it has nothing to do with it.

I am REALLY glad I found a band with an aesthetic very similar to Animals as Leaders (a band I really respect), but with a more sinister and chaotic sound. This is terrific. It's as if AaL was infused with Buckethead a la "Cuckoo Clocks of Hell". Awesome!

It's Schoenberg's system almost verbatim. Other composers like Webern and Boulez expanded upon it until we got serialism, which is probably what you're thinking of. The fact that he can employ it so idiomatically is what gets me. Even Schoenberg himself seemed to have trouble with that!

Like cattheanarchist said, Ron's system is very different from serialism. In short, Ron's system is a way to divide and group the 12 notes without the intention of making every note equal, whereas for serialism every note has to be of (more or less) equal importance to each other to give the effect of atonality. Ron even posted something discussing the fact that his system has nothing to do with serialism on his website, you should be able to find it with google.

Sorry, I meant early Schoenberg - I should have clarified. The system didn't start out all that complex. If I recall right, Webern was the one who came up with the idea to use inversions, and serialism didn't come until much later.
