is it just me or does anyone else notice the subtle tempo change in the blast @ 4:28 now THAT is some crazy shit, and ya know.. all the stuff before it
Amazing job on Blotted Science's music. As good as you are on the albums by Obscura and Necrophagist, THIS is really where I feel you shine. Ron Jarzombek's twisted, odd-meter guitar is the perfect jumping off point for your jaw-dropping drumming. You're the Mike Portnoy/Neil Peart of extreme metal. Definitely my single-biggest influence. \m/ \m/

This that really a good thing? Whenever I hear a drummer that is better than I am, it just makes me practice that much harder to be better. 12 years behind a kit and I learn something every time I sit down to play.
I couldnot imagine playing drums my whole life and not being able to play this. The big difference between Hannes and normal folks is how easy and natural he makes it look.
by far the best thing he's EVER drummed on... would have NEVER known he was this good unless he participated in this album... so many creative ideas and so unique sounding
+Anaximander29A Not that it makes a difference, as this is one of my favorite drum vids to watch and Hannes is one my top 2 favorite drummers next to Matt Garstka, but at 1:35 if you look at the splash in the center, you'll see it change positions.
c'mon guys, i could play this in my sleep.. the problem is i cant play it when i'm not sleeping! fantastic job hannes! i wish there were more videos of blasting since you dont do it that often
@metalheaddrummer101 - But if you mean the one over the floor toms beside the ride. Yes, that is a hi-hat. Closed. So it gives you the option to play closed hi-hat beats with double-bass drum patterns.
Ron Jarzombek came up with the idea back with Spastic Ink. From his site: "I’ve scored music to film before with SPASTIC INK’s ‘A Wild Hare’ and ‘The Cereal Mouse’, and Alex and I have written with a specific 12 tone system on the first BLOTTED SCIENCE CD 'The Machinations Of Dementia', but putting these two together has been brutally intense."
actually took lessons from Ron Jarzombek (Blotted Science) for a little over a year and he had me learning some of these songs...ridiculous. could not do it
I've seen you in Obscura here in Portland it was sick. Everyone thought i was weird for cheering for you but you were killing it and no one else saw it like i did.
holly balls man!!! and i was trying to figure out some phrases you did there for the past days haha , thanks a lot for posting this i'll give this one a "try"
+Patricio jaramillo Yeah, the 1, 2, 2 hits are 1, 2, 3 in the final version and the intro snare hit got removed, as well. Other than that, it's identical.
Please another Blotted Science album!
is it just me or does anyone else notice the subtle tempo change in the blast @ 4:28

That tempo change might be my single favorite moment of any drum track.
I'd be surprised if someone didn't notice that
didn't he change subdivisions? not tempo I think
@@c0hink176 10 years later and yeah I think you're right.

David Thompson 6 years into the future and this still relevant
@@bawol-official Agreed.
He, Jarzombek, and Garstka are incredible at these polyrhythms and extreme limb independence
Cheers for that Dave
This is why ai will never replace the music i listen to, i want to be amazed that a human has done it!

this grooves so fucking hard, this is my favorite band!!!!!!!!!!
Who's idea was it to write these songs over movie scenes? I just think that's THE most genius thing ever.
probably Ron's. He did the same for old Spastic Ink songs.

Hannes Grossman is in Blotted Science, as well as Obscura and Shapeshift.
how was the mic placement on this kit? it sounds awesome... I'm really curious
+Jerry Dubois my guess is either 2 kicks & an overhead or visa versa
Jerry Dubois probably kick, snare and OH
Progresivo xtrem.

Solos were removed so you could focus on the drums. Song's final.
nah, there are parts he doesn't play on this take, but they are on the final song.
Now that is how to drum. I think he's up there with Jojo Mayer, Lang, Christy, Jarzombek...He is one of my favorite drummers.
