In today's video, we are visiting the Ohio State Reformatory, also known as the Mansfield Reformatory. This is the site of a historic prison located in Mansfield, Ohio, it is also the location where the movie The Shawshank Redemption was filmed. See my photo gallery: freaktography.com/ohio-state-reformatory-shawshank-redemption-filming-location/ Anyone can visit this facility and book one of several tour options, today my friend Motley Kiwi and I have selected the self-guided tour. Join us as we tour and explore this historic old prison that opened in 1910
I’m in ohio and I’ve been there to tour the place. I know a guy who does the ghosts tours. When I was in high school our neighbor who was photographer was under contract with his company when parts of the movie Brubaker with Robert Redford was filmed there. When the prison closed all the inmates were moved to the new prison built behind the old one. I have a family member who did time in Mansfield and his cell window looked out on the old prison. He said it was creepy at night to look out at it. I was surprised you came down this far into the states. Welcome
Spent two years of my life there as a "Guest" by the State of Ohio. 1985 through 1987. Shawshank was a great movie, but there was no possible way to break out of those cells. You would need a cutting torch because the cell walls, including the roof of the cells were riveted steel plates. Even if you did get out of the cell, you would be still be trapped inside the cell block. It would take an armed swat team to actually get you out.
You make paint decay look like a design element. Great photography as usual. What an interesting building architecturally. I can only imagine how beautiful it was in it’s day. Thanks for sharing the experience with us. 😊
Very cool video Dave. The Ash Street jail in New Bedford Massachusetts is much older and still in operation today. That's where Lizzie Borden was held. Unfortunately I got to visit it, the architecture is pretty cool but not the visit 😁 keep up the great work and be safe out there 👍✌️🇺🇲
Very cool place, it SHOULD be left standing...you forgot that the same day the production crew showed up, so did the demolition crew.... That's the only thing that saved it.
Wow! Dave, that's amazing. It's so nice to see a building saved. Needs to happen more. Beautiful building. Very nice. Do they plan to restore the rest of it? Just curious. Ha e you been here before? Looks familiar. Great explore Dave. ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
Hey Dave (Freaktography), Have you done the house in this "Abandoned Farmhouse Mansion with a very Creepy Past" vid? If so, do you recall how long ago?
Hi Dave This place was cool. You really showed us everything. A very interesting and informative video. I’m sorry I didn’t see the movie. Stay safe and well.😊

totally agree
That place is gruesome inside but really nice outside. Just walking through there would give me the willies.
if you are prone to willies, this place will do it!
Great video, thank u
My pleasure!
It is supposed to be haunted. I watched ghost hunters tour the place.
I was just there. Very cool. I wondered why the cell hallways were so narrow. Inmates could grab anyone walking by their cells.
i loved it, so cool!

Niceeeee:)
so nice!
@1:37 - weapons inmates used on each other doesn't appear to have evolved over 110 years. This is quite interesting.
thanks for comin to ohio
I don't live far from there. Small world 🌎
