    As you said staying low is an outcome from being stronger what specifically strong at will allow me to push hard and stay low

  • @veemtg
    @veemtg 4 ปีที่แล้ว +6

    maybe i am wrong but i always thought he uses too much power when starting such that he runs out of juice at the end...whenever he is beaten its at the end esp by Noah Lyles

    • @r4ucoaching
      @r4ucoaching  4 ปีที่แล้ว +14

      That’s more of a speed maintenance/endurance issue. You should always start as powerful as possible!

    • @manofgod7622
      @manofgod7622 4 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      The actual reason why he sucks at top speed is because he usually suddenly bents forward too much, which increases breaking force, so he dramatically slow down. Thaťs exactly what happened in his race against Noah Lyles

      @@manofgod7622 yes i agree with that and also his arm lever is short but that causes you to tense up fast

    What do you think he does to get the sort of strength needed for that start angle? Like sleds? weightroom? core work? Is a lot of mobility needed for that too? Thanks

      I am more interested in how he get that shin angle and ankle stiffness. All I train are sled pull/march , isometric bend knee calf raise and tibial raise.

    I disagree with the advice on "staying low" out the blocks, it's not a good cue and oftentimes leads to an exaggerated lean at the torso, which does nothing but slow you down and look silly.
    You spoke about shin angle, and that's what's going to really make you accelerate faster as you can't help staying lower the greater your shin angle.
    The way to increase your shin angle is to develop ankle rigidity, strength, faster rate of force production and of course, proper technique.

    • @r4ucoaching
      @r4ucoaching  3 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      Thanks for the response! Definitely understand your concern with the “staying low” concept. Great point in that it can lead to a flexed torso for many which isn’t ideal.
      I agree in that it shouldn’t be used as a cue, but I thought there’s still some value for very beginner sprinters in understanding the general concept that not popping straight up out of the blocks is important. But maybe I should have clarified that more.
      Thanks again for the comment, I can tell you know your stuff!

      i agree with you disagreeing staying low, its not a good practice cue maybe push out is a better term.

      @@r4ucoaching every one watching this probably knows not to pop straight up from the start. Otherwise they are hopeless anyway.
      The best start cue for most is indeed 'don't think' just react to the gun. A basic instinct.
      Another good sprinting tip is do NOT focus on certain movements (hammer action, knee drive,..) but rather let the reflexes do the work. Reflexive movements are always faster and more efficient than voluntary movements. It requires patience and sense to master those reflexes.

      Staying low is good, the question is what are we talking about low? Low heel recovery and you see that with Christian in this video, heel recovering over the ankle to generate that push, to have that quickest to point A and B, is a straight line. It's not just shin angle you are dealing with, it's the shank angle also, relationship with the ground and shins, but not just the shins, the thighs, hip/waist/upper torso, all are in angles while in the blocks, no getting around that. You say develop shin angle, again it's the angle in conjunction and in relationship to the ground (shank), You don't develop that, it's created when you put your shin in that degree and from that position, you're set, you can change the degree. The ankle rigidity, doesn't develop your shin angle, it's helps with the force you need at the start, to help offset the body being at rest at the start, that inertia.

      @@Leonidas-eu9bb Everyone watching this doesn't know not to pop up, because folks do in fact pop up. Everyone obviously has a different reaction to the gun, you can work on your reaction to a gun stimuli. But even if you have a great reaction time, but yet have a poor block clearance, that will offset your RT. You do want to cue hammer, you do want to cue force, pushing, it has to go beyond simply reflexes, why? Because the start is technical, biochemical, something that you obviously work at, work on.
