I used to encounter racism maybe once or twice a year growing up... but in the past 5-10 years? It's once a month. I visit China every summer break growing up. Lately, I've been considering just staying there one of these trips. I have actually been looking at apartments in Guangzhou. We'll see what happens.

@WT83: The music industry has always had a racialized plantation system in which stealing from black artists is an acceptable norm..Actually, in comparison to that, these foreign white collar workers are doing relatively well in the US system. All corporations in the US claim 100% ownership of whatever their employees create. Most of the time employees/workers, especially blue collar ones, get NOTHING for their ideas or creations. People conveniently ignore US history and its origins as a slave state which also entrenched sharecropping and peonage labor within an existing racial hierarchy. In the modern US corporations are people and money is speech and that is that is okay with most people. Meanwhile merely saying black lives matter stirs controversy in a society which had refused to do justice to its black population in any meaningful way in spite of centuries of of well-documented systemic and intentional deprivation and disenfranchisement.

Hi Kevin, always a pleasure to see and listen to your very informative show. The US badly needs a lot more men of your calibre. Stay safe and keep it coming.
What strikes me most of this is the "pull and push" factors. What has frustrated so many in the U.S. is our inability to find people of like mind and intelligence to interact with. How many of us sit at home studying, reading, writing, reduced to ruminating with our own souls because there is simply no one we can share with. From science to literature, history, religion, the challenges and blessings of daily life, we're only able to connect online. Rare is the friendship that goes deeper now.
This is also happening in the UK where the same paranoia, accusations of spying and intellectual theft are meted against Chinese students. In the past, when China was poor and not as developed as today, many Chinese went to the West to study and seek better prospects. This is no longer the case as China's science & technology has surpassed the West in many fields. China's living standards are as high or becoming even higher than many Western countries.
Kevin, a better way of looking at this is by looking at the traditional breakdown between basic and applied research. Basically, organizations like the US govt leave basic research to the Universities, then take that and operationalize it so to speak. This is where the national labs or corporations come in. So the big problem is that not only is basic research being done at Chinese universities, but applied research is integrated as well. So not only does integrated supply chains refer to physical products, but also to knowledge as well.

In the near future, when India climbs a little higher on the GDP ladder, we will add them to the bogie man list. We always need fresh blood, fresh enemies, to justify increasing DOD $ to feed our military industrial complex which in term will donate to re-elections, an American win-win formula for our politicians. Part 1 was Japan in the 90’s with the Plaza Accord, Part 2 is now with PRC, and Part 3 is coming up within a decade with India…
I have a feeling the US won't last that long…
Especially if war mongering democRATS have a say so.
Absolutely bang on!
And I don't think india will be getting to that position for at least another 5 decades if at all. Research requires high levels of discipline and intelligence does it not?
Will never happen
Studied at university of California Irvine UCI … aka University of Chinese Immigrants … 80% of the students are Chinese!
Thank you.
I've seen a recent interview of CATL ceo by Norway media. He mentioned the main reason of his company success and domination of battery industry, is through innovation of new products. He has hundreds of PHD's in his 20K+ research team who are all stem scientists.
With the influx of more scientists driven off by the US, China tech is only to further advance, in the expense of the US.
Nothing new. When I commented that most scientists, researchers and technical skilled Chinese left the US, Utube deleted the comment. 😅 Did you get a chance to watch how a US senator grilled a Singaporean Chinese CEO of TikTok during congressional inquiry?
America’s idiotic policies are undoing this country
Thanks for your warning calls. 😊
America is done.
I think this has been going on for a long time. Chinese who are experienced in US companies become much more valuable once they work in China.
When politicians are sponsored by those who just care about their own profit but not for the future of the country.
Regrettably, the fact that money comes and goes. The absence of money is not an obstacle. An obstacle is posed by a lack of an idea. If you want to feel rick, just count the thing you have that money can't buy
I've been saying this for years. Look at how American citizens of japanese decent were treated during WW2
Goes back and up the ante way further than that: Chinese Exclusion Act of 1882
The urgency to leave the ‘you ess’ cannot be understated.
Under the AUKUS deal anything and everything invented in Australia HAS to be handed over to the USA. Tells you everything you need to know about Australian politicians and public servants.
Very interesting and informative video once again, thank you.
