So many have lost there ways over the years and you. You keep on trucking! God bless you! And its good to see you are still at it. Stay healthy and well my friend. Its always an adventure, and learning experience when we get to watch you.
Howdy Chris, thank you for the kind words, we too sometime fall down deep in the mud, but we like most try and just dust off and get back up and keep living life. Cheers, my friend👨🏼⚕️
thanks for posting these videos you really saved me a ton of labor lath and plaster is kind of a lost art in my area. this has saved me from having to drag so many sheets of drywall up tight stairways and hauling out the old plaster
When It happened to us it was just about 30-percent that was left, as we removed most of it. We were relieved that it was off without us using any more efforts. We barely noticed this action, as we were too surprised, then we laughed🕵️♂️
Id like to see him use our stuff too. I have spoken to him in the comments before and his wife’s from Manchester so he’s been here and has actually used it. Their plaster over there looks so different, from what I can gather, their diamond veneer is the equivalent of multi. I think Kirk mixes it up quite thick to cover it in one coat, as opposed to us applying two thinner wetter coats
Good evening Steven, I tried to find the British Multi Finish once, I believe they sold it in New York, which is across the country from where I am. New York just happens to be the shortest distance across the pond, perhaps why it was there? Its costly to get products that are heavy across the ocean. The fact remains, if a person can spread one he can spread all of them.👨🏻🔬
Help! Remodeling a 1950s home with Rocklathe. Scraped a ton of paint. Still have some well bonded paint. My question is should I repair cracks and sections where the plaster had separated with more plaster or joint compound? My concern is what will adhere to remaining painted surfaces and will cracks show up again later. Also I plan to do an entire skim coat of the walls and ceiling to fill low spots and to cover 75 years of imperfections.
Rocklath is top-of-the-line stuff. Any plaster finish is only as good as what it's applied over, Thus clean it as well as possible, apply a bonding agent then plaster over it. It should last forever if your prep work is done well.
How long should a homeowner wait for the new plaster to dry before painting? I have seen contractors use moisture meters to check it before painting, but not everyone has or can afford a meter. Also, great job on the patches.
My moister meter is ingrained with common sense. All plaster set differently, read the bag. About how long to wait to paint, Most plasters can be painted in about a week.
LOL, good eye brother, I did have about 5 minutes before I would have had to toss it. That added some fun to the task. Use it or lose it. Fortunately my arm could handle the workout.🏋🏽♂️
Hello Kirk, new subscriber here. I’ve recently purchased a century old home. I live in the Midwest. I am looking to do a skim coat on every wall that needs it(all of them basically😅) what do you recommend I use and anything I need to do to the wall before besides removing loose material. If you’ve answered the question I apologize. Currently taking a deep dive into your content, amazing stuff! Thank you 🙏
Hi Alex, what we are doing here is also recommended for walls, In the description are more videos that explain more materials such as base coat too. I used the diamond lime finish for the base coat and simply finished it, but you have to know a bit about your materials in order to do this. For example if I were doing a whole room. I'd apply a basecoat no doubt with Structo-Lite then apply a diamond lime finish over it. But for such small areas, that was not necessary.🕵️♂️
Hey Kirk !! Cheers beast regards......How do you get Diamond plaster so workable, and with a good hold-out time..?? Retarder??? Probably the bags I used on an old bedroom were bad?? The stuff started to dry and set rapidly. Pails were meticulously clean beforehand. Happy New year... Rob G
Got a question... Running into a bunch of new home builds, where the (chicken wire) is exposed in the exterior plastering, should this be addressed or can the home buyer just move right on in? It is starting to be a common find on new home builds. This is colored and painted finishes, is this normal? Great Show.
Odd, I have yet to see the stucco netting in a finished stucco home. If so, that stucco contractor sucks, if the stucco contractor's work sucks that means they don't care about their work, I'd personally be reluctant to purchase that home.
Stucco netting thank you for the correction, yeah big boom in Texas, and not in a good way, a lot of rush, low quality. The fact you have never seen it, tells me all I need to know, thank you sir. Great show. @@StuccoPlastering
Are there any consequences mixing Structolite with joint compound. The only stuff I am buying locally is Structolite now. No real finishes so I am using what I can get, Drywall compound so I was just wondering about mixing these 2 products together? Thanks
Structolight seems to be the only thing I can get locally. I was just curios about how the 2 materials work together. where do I read about this guys work?
There's no advantage, it will either set too fact or not set for hours. Its best to use one or the other. I just used the Diamond finish in this video, and yes, it's designed for a sixteenth or an eighth of an inch for residential or commercial. Can you go ince inch or more? I have done 5 to 6 inches with excellent results. But I know what to expect. If not one should improvise.
Only 5 percent of this ceiling was failing. However we could have done that if the client wanted us to do that. That would have cost some extra dough, thus as a rule I don't sell folks what they don't need.
This was done in the USA, I was a plasterer working with the union, and I actually did my four-year apprenticeship back in the early 80s. I was more or less taught to do whatever I felt was right as I was responsible for my actions. al plasterers should be able to match whatever texture there is whether rough or smooth. Easy peasy. 👨🏻🔬
Lime plaster hardens like what it's made of, "Limestone", you ever try sanding a stone, or pushing a thumbtack throw it? No, it can't be sanded, Good question.
Why are you plastering a ceiling instead of using drywall? Is it just staying with the construction style on a really old house or is this for earthquake proofing?
@@marqueswilsonn Morning, usually failing plaster ceilings get replastered as yo try and Sheetrock they are too difficult as the thickness is very different than Sheetrock.

These bags have born on dates, If they are old they don't keep well or if over mixed set way too fast.
Do you get any gypsum over there( I’m from uk)
Tons of gypsum based products here, just not to many lime plasters, that are rel lime "Plasters" anyways. That's another story.
