I actually love the ai sample from on or off the drugs due to how deep of a rabbit hole it is, being a weird mutation of a contemporary future track, and Peggy then in turn basically “took it back” by tastefully sampling it and making it his own (although I’m definitely reading into it too much).
after listening to the single i went straight up to watching succession and realised that the door sounded familiar and i was hoping for someone to notice it too
4:04 The incredible thing is that after that scene a door opens and it is what sounds at the beginning of "Don't rely on other men" so it has two samples of Succession.
I think that Peggy might have sampled a song from Frank Oceans' Blonde in JPEGULTRA! specifically the sound on the left side that appears while they rap. Because I swear to God I've heard that same sound before but with less changes.
damn, I try to find video about samples from ILDMLFY every day since album was released and I found your video after 10 minutes u posted it. What's more interesting is that I had to use VPN to watch TH-cam cause I'm from Russia. what odds... thank you for video btw
jpegmafia didnt sample dj ramemes on its dark and hell is hot, the song is actually produced by dj ramemes not peggy, also exmilitary isnt a nod to death grips its a nod to veteran and him actually being exmilitary nothing to do with death grips
yea with its dark and hell is hot I saw some conflicting reports but considering that there r some changes in the instrumental in and both dj ramemes and Peggy r listed as producers, I’d maybe call it more of a remix than anything. Still worth mentioning tho I think
The "hell is hot" seems like a situation similar to Real Nega from Veteran, except this time, it seems, Peggy was able to get in contact with the og producer and properly collab with them
The shaker and drum break from Think (about it) is very commonly used in rap, hiphop, techno, drum and bass, etc. It is often used as a variation of the amen break and is called think break due to the song's title.
Fun fact Kanye west and Kendrick Lamar birthday sampled the drums in Its Your Thing in multiple songs Kanye: POWER, Crack Music Kendrick: The Blacker The Berry, Collect Calls
Awesome video 🎉. Peggy has been my favourite artist as of recently, so glad to see people really appreciating his music in this much depth. Fs will be subscribing 😂
drums were better in the 60s and 70s cause engineers knew their shit. how to use hardware SSL compressors, how to mic a kit. recording to tape. we still have a lot of that, but many of the techniques that were very commonly used, and known amongst engineers, have become arcane knowledge
The section with the fortnite sample is actually one of my favorite parts across the whole album. I’m a producer, so that part and the part at the end of New Black History are my favorites.
I think the 60's drum thing has both to do with the way that analogue recording and old mics forced a certain warmth on to tracks from that era and that drum design back then was a little different, for instance Bass drums were often way more shallow, so they had less bottom end resonance.
idk if someone mentioned it already, Porter is a Spanish-speaking band but they are not Spanish, they Mexican.. Great band tho, the whole album Moctezuma (which contains the sampled song) is a great conceptual peace. Nice video, man!
did anyone else hear free bird on sin miedo? at the least there are two very distinct identical guitar riffs in there in there from 1:36 to 1:39 and 1:43 to 1:47. Those two riffs are also back to back in the same order as they appear in free bird.
It's dark and hell is hot is in fact a Collab with Ramemes, not only a sample. You can see that Ramemes even sign it with his classic "ha! Mais uma do Ramemes".
would it be wrong to say that SIN MIEDO interpolates "heads will roll" by the yeah yeah yeahs? when i first heard SIN MIEDO all i could think about is how similar it sounds to heads will roll but now i cant hear it at all
I think the intro to SIN MIEDO with the “PEGGY PEGGY” chant is from the Pokemon BW2 games, when you enter the PWT on stage. Might be wrong but sounds super similar
lol, the thing about drums being better in the 60s and 70s is actually true. That is because back then, drums weren’t looped in software, so you heard more depth to the sound. Most music softwares use drum samples which lack or remove the complexity of the noise really hitting a drum makes.
the beginning of exmilitary always reminds me of the theme for battleblock theater and i still want to believe it is that even though i know it isn't now
Bro the fact that you have nurture and fuzzybrain behind you got you thr sub, this video is amazing but like fuzzybrain is my weird 10/10 pick like no one agrees with me on that one
call me crazy because i did 0 research and it’s all based on a gut feeling but i SWEAR i hear the “wasted” sound effect from GTA 5 in JIHAD JOE so many times (0:35, 0:41, 0:55, a couple examples so people might be able to hear what i’m talking about)
You misseed the drums early on in Ex-military.... Been bugging me for says but i think they were from Jay Z/Roc La Familia - The Dynasty (intro). Anyone else hearing that?

Dont undercut yourself man. You're not reading too much into it. You just are making an interesting point! And I agree
missed that the weird sound in dont rely on other men is the sound of a door opening from that same scene in succession
after listening to the single i went straight up to watching succession and realised that the door sounded familiar and i was hoping for someone to notice it too
good catch! I haven’t seen succession myself so I only knew abt the “i hear you went down” line
10:18 in 2010 on his song "the power of madonna" he says "never clear my samples, get sued by janet jackson" aged perfectly
I was playing that song all the week
one of his best devon hydrix tracks
u are goated for this, the fortnite sample is crazy

7:03 This Cold Grits sample "It's Your Thing" is actually the same one sampled on Kanye's POWER on MBDTF!
It’s on Crack Music by Kanye too
@@LandonVROfficial damn i knew i heard it somewhere else
It’s also sampled in the blacker the berry by Kendrick

fun fact: the drums from JIHAD JOE are also used on POWER by Kanye, and probably more songs that I just dont know
Crack music
"Collect Calls" by Kendrick Lamar, too
9:37 CRAZY also I thought the "oh yeah" was from WWE Commentator Michael Cole, but it makes sense because JPEG is from NY.
I agree with your drums take. I think that is why Paul's Boutique is so good. The Beastie Boys always picked the best drum samples.
the transition at 2:55 was really well done!
I think that Peggy might have sampled a song from Frank Oceans' Blonde in JPEGULTRA! specifically the sound on the left side that appears while they rap. Because I swear to God I've heard that same sound before but with less changes.

Its probably a little bit of a double meaning cause he also joked about death grips being featured on the album
nah it’s probably a reference to death grips like the first song
yea with its dark and hell is hot I saw some conflicting reports but considering that there r some changes in the instrumental in and both dj ramemes and Peggy r listed as producers, I’d maybe call it more of a remix than anything. Still worth mentioning tho I think
before releasing the album peggy posted a tweet saying "death grips collab in the album" and deleted it right after , it probably has double meaning
The "hell is hot" seems like a situation similar to Real Nega from Veteran, except this time, it seems, Peggy was able to get in contact with the og producer and properly collab with them
7:05 its actually the exact drums from mbdtf POWER
It also reminds me of crack music
Maybe but YE prob sampled the same drums as Peggy
its been used in a lot of songs. I remember the killer mike album from last year has a song that samples it forgot which one though
really hope the sample at the end of vulgar display of power is discovered soon, he uses it beautifully
True, since first listen I’ve been wondering what that is

I've been trying to figure that out too but can't find it anywhere...

6:20 is such a good sample
Its about two lost people who can’t find each but remain in each other hearts
The section with the fortnite sample is actually one of my favorite parts across the whole album. I’m a producer, so that part and the part at the end of New Black History are my favorites.
I think a lot of newer drums are made using drum machines and older one's were recorded live. I think that's why they used to hit harder
I think the 60's drum thing has both to do with the way that analogue recording and old mics forced a certain warmth on to tracks from that era and that drum design back then was a little different, for instance Bass drums were often way more shallow, so they had less bottom end resonance.
I need to know where all those majestic orchestras in the 2nd half of the album come from
70s drums have the best tone period, tight trap high hats and bass sound so good layered on top of an old soul drum break sample
The basketball sample is from a playoff game last year and that was a big shot. Kevin Harlan is the commentator who said it.
that porter sample is amazing
Holy fuck I’ve been looking for the sample for either on or off the drugs had no luck thank you

Talking about the think break like is this unknown sample from a lost 70s song is a really funny bit
As someone who is 62 and loves Blues, Soul, R&B, Funk drums I would agree. The Meters come to mind
Didn’t Sin Miedo also sample Heads Will Roll? I thought that was like ONE OF the only samples I recognized on first listen
I love the way this guy talks about the samples and doesn't just show us them
