im 43, been a hip hop fan since the early 90's. I watched OFWGKTA come up from the start, was following Tyler pre yonkers and have been watching him and his crew since the beginning. Tyler is the RZA for a newer generation. When the Wu came out they changed the game for hip hop at the time. the clan mentality, the visuals, the diy approach, Tyler and OFWGKTA were the wu-tang for the Jackass generation. stylistically, musically visually very different, yet took a similar approach (albeit it very different as their approach used the technology of the time, like social media, myspace, limewire etc)They showed how people could reshape the music industry to fit their vision, not be dependent on the major label system that had been the route to success prior to this era. They kicked the doors down culturally, creatively, artistically. they were more than music, they were a movement that resonated with people all over the world and along the way they evolved and grew into the artists they were meant to be. Tyler deserves all the success and more. they showed how artists can be free to create in anyway they saw fit and not be bound to specific ideas or genres. I wish the industry had more people like Tyler the creator, the world would certainly be a more interesting place for it

I know a LOT of people say this about a lot of other artists, but, Tyler, the Creator is truly the artist of the generation, and its hilarious that he refuses to believe it and constantly humbles himself. I bought a front row ticket to the Weeknd, Drake, Beyonce and Tyler, guess who was the cheapest?
Beyonce - 1500 (standing room club renaissance worth)
    Drake - 700 (all sitting)
    Weeknd - 500 (all sitting)
Tyler the Creator - 300 (1st row bowl seating and floor standing were the same price, and non VIP was $150 normally and was $99 during presale)

    • @chantoya17
      @chantoya17 4 หลายเดือนก่อน +5

I agree that Tyler is great but you do know his tickets are probably only less expensive because he's not as big as those 3 artists you mentioned? He's done well for himself, all things considered, but he's not yet as commercially successful as a weeknd who stays #1 on the hot 100 for months, a drake who is always breaking streaming records and Beyoncé who is an absolute legend that's been at this for over 25 years. I mean, none of those guys were even things back when she was in her commercial prime.
All that being said, Tyler absolutely could charge more and probably will in the future as his stock continues to grow because he puts on one helluva show. The high ticket price would be worth it and I'd rather pay those kinda prices to go see him than any other male artist in this generation.

I came in during the Flower Boy era and was a fan for the debut of Igor. Sh*t changed my life. I was hiding who I was, and damn if that music didn’t give me the motivation to stop giving a sh*t and come out.
I can’t say enough how much Tyler has done to help me grow just as not enough can be said for how much he has grown.
And I can understand if some of his older stuff is off putting due to content. I get that, but recognizing his talent as a rapper but also as a writer and composer doesn’t have to mean you like all his music.
I am a fan of his newer stuff, where his maturing blooms. Still, I refuse to put aside the fact that he has always been incredibly talented and I am glad he is getting respect now, even if it’s not nearly enough.

White skater kids have been listening to hip hop way before Odd Future came on the scene. I grew up in the 90’s & acts like Tribe, Del the Funkee Homosapien, Pharcyde, Souls of Mischief, Wu Tang etc etc were being played during skate sessions as much, if not more than, punk or hardcore.

i took so long to listen tyler because everyone else was listening to him, so i figured he must not be that good. i regret it all because he now my favorite artist, the only one i've bought posters and drawn my own version of album covers for, and the only one i feel so deeply connected too. i don't know why but as a teen i'm so deeply infatuated with him and his music. he's just different

Hey bro I missed this era too, but I was in the middle of it. I started listening to Tyler and Odd Future when only Goblin and Wolf were out as albums, but it was dying down and Camp Flognaw came to my city just 2 months before I started listening and they never came again. but I did catch some of his tours though.

    I feel this.
I had a hot freestyle album in my hometown when I was young, and people still ask me if I’ll do another one.
I probably could have kept doing the same thing and had some limited success, but I just wanted to try different things.
Even after I couldn’t replicate my original success with different genres, I still wanted to try something new.
It’s been almost 25 years since that album dropped, and some people still haven’t moved on. They have zero interest in me being anything other than that guy.
I don’t write pop songs anymore, I don’t really make “beats” in the traditional sense and I mostly try making experimental music that most people probably wouldn’t like.
Just a few weeks ago, I decided that I would make another freestyle album. Not because I want to chase fame or celebrity like I did as a kid, but because my wife told me that she always listens to that album when I’m not around and she wants another one.
That may be the only thing on earth that could inspire me to do what everyone else wanted me to do all along. If people like it, cool…and if not, it’ll be fun to be inspired by something so unique. I might not even let anyone else have a copy.

I discovered Tyler through Flower Boy - ironically around the time Igor came out, and it's still one of my favorite albums. It's been a wild ride since then. He has helped make my late teens much less confusing, and now as I'm beginning my 20s I'm thankful to have him as an inspiration in my life. I may not be able to embody his lively, charming 'no fucks given' persona, but it sure as hell won't stop me from trying :)
