Just want to say thank you! I bought the part at my local BMW dealer for 17 bucks and rented a DIY garage for 3 hours. Cost me $165 all in to replace, vs $500-$600 quotes I was getting from local shops. One comment to help anyone who will attempt this. I had to loosen the back retaining straps for the gas tank in addition to removing the front bolts, so I could lower the gas tank enough (while supporting it) to clear the screw coming down from the body of the car when sliding the new plastic clip holder in place. The hardest part is getting the new clip on without breaking it cause there is very little room between the screw and the drivetrain. Thanks again!
Thanks for the video. My car made the noise when I made a right turn and it continued as long as I was in the turn. Both clips were broke. This was on a 2017 320i my son bought when he graduated college. We have 3 F30s in the family, this is the newest and the only one to break. I followed your directions and got the job done in about 1.5 hours. My issue was driveshaft clearance. I think if I was to do it again, I would remove the driveshaft. Thanks for the videos. With 2 X5s, a 340xi, a 328i, and a 320xi these videos keep ownership affordable.
Great vid. The noise (IMO) sounds like a coin lightly jankling around under your backseat. I pulled the entire rear seat out of an F30 trying to find the source and found nothing. Now I see exactly what it is! Thanks! @2:16 of the vid you can hear what it sounds like when it’s not slightly muffled.
Getting an oil change tomorrow gonna have them figure something out cant wait for part to come its been driving me crazy took everything out of my car three times. Lol
I always have musiv blasting when i drive my e90, so im not sure how long its been making the noise haha, just recently heard this noise when i had the music off, thanks bro
Thank you for this useful video! very clear and complete explanation. I own a BMW 330i 2020, and I have noticed a metallic sound in the back part of my car every time I drive through a rough road, with bumps and potholes. It is like if I had something loose inside the trunk, for example tools. I will look for the problem that you show, it makes sense to me. Best regards from Mexico.
Thanks for the video. BMW just quoted me $946.99 to do this lol. I feel bad for people who don’t know how to do their own work and would actually pay that for a $10 part.
It help a lot when you have a pole jack to support the exhaust and another pole jack to support the heavy fuel tank. Trying to do this job with just the car on 4 jack stands and using your hand is a pain in the butt. The dealership want to charge me 700 for this job. 700 dollars to lower the exhaust with a pole jack and replacing a nut. I told them they are crazy
0:591:402:17 My bmw 220i GC has only been 6 months old with 900km run and this happens! Symptoms and noise aspect are exactly the same with your inspection.
Great video my car has just started doing this after a stage 1 map. Your link doesn't work for me. What is this clip called for me to search for it? Many thanks
I have a 2012 F25 X3 3.5i with a slight noise in the backend possibly similar to this. This part is not on my X3...but this is a hint. I've checked the suspension and bushings...good. I will check the rotor (though a single piece) just cuz, but next time under the rear gonna check for this!
I have a 2015 bmw 320i xDrive. The sound is coming from the middle of the car and only happens when I accelerate or turn left and put weight on the right side of the car. It’s a small rattle sound and doesn’t happen in idle or neutral. Any ideas? I will check to see if this will fix it tmr and update!
Agreed! I used the AGA replacement part (AGA-PCC-854-898) to fix my 2018 F30. The current price of the metal part is about $100 more than the BMW plastic clip but well worth it in my opinion. Using it saves considerably on the installation time because there is no need to lower the fuel tank with the improved part. And I am pretty certain the life span of the heavy aluminum clamp will be longer than the rest of the car. I have about 4,000 miles on the car since the repair and it is working great. PS. I first tried the zip-tie approach other commenters recommend, but that is at best a temporary fix.
I have a BMW X4 2016. I get this sound when i take it over bumps and on and off the driveway. I soent 150$ already on inspection and no one told me that its bushing or this part. Instead i got a quote of 700$ to get things replaced. Still trying to find a good mechanic to get this part inspected and replaced. I will post once i find the root cause. Surprise how it can break as i only got 40k kms on it.
Holy hell. I have been chasing this noise for 8 months. I replaced nearly every suspension component on my 20k mile F22 M240. Thankfully they were all suspension upgrades I would have eventually done anyway, but dang, a plastic clip caused all thia metal noise. Here is a clip to help anyone hear it better th-cam.com/video/Dv77LNopKCY/w-d-xo.htmlsi=hviv6Lk-Kzb9SBL7
Just get zip tie and it works a good. Why would BMW make a plastic retainer, and why would I replace it with another plastic retainer.? The BMW deal is hip charges 900 usd to put in the 10 dollar plastic retainer. Lol
Great video, but at this time there is a much better solution for this: th-cam.com/video/3N8qvIS7vMM/w-d-xo.html Costs 129 dollar, but you don't have to lower the tank anymore and the solution is more sustainable made out of aluminum.

Awesome tip, and probably a tough diag if you are not familiar with the issue!

That’s looked so easy. The installation of the part is kicking my ass.

Awesome! Did the trick finaly! Knocking my head over and over for months for this…Thank you for sharing🙏
I have the same problem with my E84, and I could not find the reason, but you found it !!! Thank you for your video.

I wish I could come to America just so that you can have a look at my car
Does this not fall under any warranty category or are we left paying out of pocket ?
Thank you for saving me time!
You’re a rockstar for this

maybe i'm missing something but if you're replacing the part anyway why not pry/break it off instead of lowering the fuel tank?
This was brilliant. Until I get a lift I just went to town with zip ties and metal cable.
Did it work for you? I have a feeling I will have to do the same till I can find a shop to rent to do it myself
Why not just cable tie it up, or use a p clamp?
i cable tied mine is good now
Great video my car has just started doing this after a stage 1 map. Your link doesn't work for me. What is this clip called for me to search for it? Many thanks
Did they update the part where it won’t break again or will it just break again in a few years
what technical hands-on books can one read about bmw cars? 📚
Went to the bmw dealership today they wanted $880 to replace that clip smh
Pack of zip ties for $5😮💨
Great vid thanks!
i have my 2008 bmw 328i after driving it for a while i smell gas real strong odor .....any ideas?
Do you smell it after filling up the tank? Could be leaking at the fuel sender. You’ll need to locate the leak and address it immediately
Great Vid !! How many labor hours to perform this fix ??? Got 2016 328i with same issue after hitting crap on the freeway
Did you fix it? Curious how many hours it took?
@@michaelboretz3492 bought av$15 clip and had a friend with a lift replace the clip. Dealer wanted $600 for labor. Got out cheap for $100

@@cjchrome627 no
Next do the manifold
Why do you have a picture of an f10?
Could this also be for the 2009 bmw 335i e92?

AGA sells an improved metal clip that everyone should use during this repair. It makes no sense replacing it with the same part that will fail again.

Local shop wants to charge me +250 to do it. 🙄🙄🙄🙄
just zip tied mine, 15 mins, if you want, use 4 or 5 of metal zip ties
😎👍

So much work to replace a clip? 😮
yup i just used zip ties to hold it up too much work if you dont own a lift tbh
@@f30diff Hi Mat, do I need to remove any parts to get access to that clip? and can you describe how you zip ties the brake line? thanks

disassemble half the car for a minor part fix....the pain of owning a bwm...
exactly my thoughts! it's designed to fail i.e. last thru warranty only
