Yes and no. I agree with the long fifteen year probation period, but the five year sentence was not enough considering the max allowed by law is thirty years. IMO he should have been sentenced to at least ten years.

Absolutely Not, He shouldn't have gotten any prison time. He should have had an option to get help in a mental facility, that's why they exist. This isn't to justify what he did. But the system is just continuing to fail him. If the races were reversed he would have been sent to a mental health facility like Morgan Geyser, Who stabbed her friend over 15x and left her to die in the woods. Smh

She has even kicked and cracked a wall. I have given her so much love and compassion but she just has no control over her emotions when she gets upset. But! When she calms down, she then breaks down sobbing and rocks and plays sad songs because she feels so badly afterwards. I struggle so much with this whole trial..I feel so bad for the aide that was hurt😢but I don’t know that this young man has as much control over himself as the judge thinks he does..I’m very conflicted..he is definitely a huge danger but where can he go? I worked in special ed for six years. Some of these kids are enormous. The school, the law does not care if these kids beat the crap out of teachers, staff members, or other students. But if they get one bruise, you better believe that Cops are going to be called and that your ass is going to be fired.
Even if they got the bruise by beating you or you defending yourself or by them punching something. These kids have far too much leniency. Kids like this do not belong in school. And the parents put them in school so they don’t have to deal with them for eight hours. It’s babysitting.

@Salty-cracker68, your comment hits home to me. I am within a year and a half of retirement from special education department in my school system with my 30 years. I could not even watch this trial because it upset me so much. I became absolutely livid with some of the excuses I heard and had to turn it off. Every single thing you said in your comment is the truth. More so now than ever after the pandemic. Teachers have no rights, parents are entitled, and there’s nothing being done about it. The support is not there. The expectations are through the roof. Kids cannot be educated because of some of the horrific behaviors that occur a daily basis. But yet it continues with no end in sight. This student literally killed someone and he’s getting a matter of 60 months? When he gets out, it’ll start all over again. It is absolutely sickening to me. Something has to change or there will be no more special education teachers. And what’s worse is when there are locations that could assist these students with learning, it’s absolutely impossible to get them there. Our system is broken. And now it appears the judicial system is broken when a perpetrator such as this literally gets a slap on the hand. It’s absolutely heartbreaking for the victims, as well as the educators that are still out there whose hands are tied.

First comment calls him "a child", lmao. Seventeen is old enough to get married with parental permission, work on a payroll and pay taxes, operate a motor vehicle, become emancipated and live as a legal adult with all adult privileges. Old enough to consent to sex, have children. Biologically he is a man at this point -- which is relevant considering the public needs protected and that is a priority over his rights and privileges.
I dont know about this offender but at seventeen I had two jobs, had graduated high school and been accepted into college.
Stop infantilizing older adolescents. They are as much a threat as anyone over 18, maybe more so, because of their impulsivity and lack of experience.

Not NEARLY long enough of a sentence for this dangerous young man. He's shown, over time, that he has no sense of empathy toward his victims and has no control over his impulses of rage. Society DESERVES to be protected for life from a person capable of these types of crimes. This sentence doesn't serve that purpose, at all. Guarantee that if this monster is allowed to be paroled in the future, he will end up killing someone. No doubt, at all. And when he does, the family of the victim can sue the crap out of the state, the judge, and his buffoon "parents" for allowing this thing to walk freely. Only in murica.

He should NEVER have been in the public school system. He should be in an institution. He is dangerous and will no doubt be back in prison after these 5 years. Being autistic isn't his fault but that doesn't mean the rest of society should be victimized. Hearing about all his triggers is ridiculous. You can't be trusted out in society if the word "NO" is a trigger. If he goes that ballistic because a game was taken away imagine what violence he will perpetrate when he doesn't get something else he wants, especially out in the world where there are even less supports than in the public school system.
